I'm glad to see actual Greeks on YT showing us how to make it for real. The top search results for cooking are usually not so good. Thanks for your channel!
I live a semi-monastic (Orthodox Christian) life in a rural area. I Grow my own food and cook it. No meat. Observe the fasts.. I just found and subscribed to your channel. I could eat spanokopita everyday. Yours looks delicious. Ill be trying your others reciped as well. Thank you for the instruction.
Thank you for the recipe! I am going to make this with swiss chard from my garden instead of spinach. I know that is not the standard, but I need to do something with all this chard!
@@SofiasGrekaKitchen it worked out great! Spinach would have been tastier than chard, but sometimes you just have to use what you've got. :) Thank you and have a lovely day!
Yasou Sofia - Thank you for this - Im going to start making mine in 20 minutes - Ive never cooked Spakakopita before but Im going to give it a go - Again thank you
I missed the having to wait at the end! It took me a long time running back and forth to see what I needed to do next. AND of course I had to come down sick. I just put it in the oven but it's almost 7PM I guess I will have to eat something else, something fast and easy.
Thank you for this recipe and telling us why you need to add oil between every sheet. No one else told me why!!! I love the rice and the water trick on top! I am going to make this tomorrow evening! We just came back from Santorini and I was only able to try this at the airport, sadly. AND for breakfast!!!! It was the best Spanakopita I have ever eaten!!!
Is spanakopita usually eaten warm, room temperature, or refrigerator cold? Also, asuming there is any left, what us the best way to store it? Thank you for this video, it looks delicious!
Spanakopita is usually eaten at room temperature, although and depending on individual tastes, some people like it warm. I would keep it in the fridge in an airtight container. Thank you
Thank you! I bought the phyllo pastry from a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean shop and I am afraid I cannot remember the brand. Any brand will do however :-)
I think it will be fine if you finely chop the onions. The reason we cook them is to soften them but if you finely chop the onion it should be fine too. Good luck
Sofia mou, I only found your channel now, and I love it ,but it seems to me you have stopped making videos. Am I correct? If so I am very sad. Love from Pretoria, South Africa.

Love to try it. Thanks for sharing. New sub here.
Welcome! 😊 I hope you enjoy the videos and recipes. Take care
My yiayiathes (in-law) use mint rather than parsley. I add chopped green chilli. It’s such a wonderful dish because you can throw in herbs you love
That’s lovely and you are right...you can definitely add the herbs you like to this wonderful dish 😊
@@SofiasGrekaKitchen Imagine a world where there was just one spanakopita recipe... Vive la difference, vive la variety (pardon my Frenglish).

Nice recipe. Similar to my family's. My twist is adding some mint! Much to the disappointment of my relatives, lol

It looks delicious! Where did you buy the phyllo and what brand? Thank you!
Thank you! I bought the phyllo pastry from a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean shop and I am afraid I cannot remember the brand. Any brand will do however :-)
Look for any brand that look like it comes in sheets. We use Athens, it’s the only one I can find locally.
US major Groceries carry in freezer
At what temperature do you bake it please?
i want to ask about rice. you have to put it ready or half ready or raw? will it be ready there?
Hi there, the rice goes in just raw and the heat helps it cook. Good luck 😊
Looks delicious! What’s the size of the pan you’re using?
Thank you! I used a 35x25 baking dish
The water on the top , I am told is to keep the philo down and crispy.
Yes that’s correct, it also gives it a lovely colour
Can u use this recipe in cheese mini pie dough instead of phylo?
Yes, you can 👌
@SofiasGrekaKitchen is it a must to cook the onions? Can I just add it to the spinach mixture without cooking it?
I think it will be fine if you finely chop the onions. The reason we cook them is to soften them but if you finely chop the onion it should be fine too. Good luck

Θα μπορούσε να μπει και τραχανάς αντί του ρυζιού καθώς δίνει μία ευχάριστη γεύση στις πίτες.
Αυτή είναι μια ωραία πρόταση 👍
