These are used in Europe versus the "American" intermodal style dueto the fact only about 2% of the tractor trailers are equipped to use the container/frame method. They also retro-fit the trailers with a system so the whole vehicle can be lifted and placed on a TOFC. Look up "cargo beamer" and there is yet another interesting version of this.
A very good idea if you have an area where there's not a lot of room for an intermodal terminal or not enough rail traffic to justify build one, also the flatcar is limited to one trailer, but good for short haul service,US railroads have flat (or hitch cars as it's called in the business)cars that can carry five trailers, five 40ft containers,or three 53ft containers on one car,and one comment writer makes the point there's too many moving parts that in some cases break down.
This is a good system....But I believe there are just too many moving parts and too much that could go wrong. 1 or 2 trips on the UP through Yuma Az and there would probably be too much sand in it to use it again...Check out "RailRunner Terminal Anywhere.mpg". I learned an amazing saying while in the service. K.I.S.S- Keep It Simple Stupid. This system and the "roadrailer" are just that....Simple and HIGHLY effective.
Well it's got more info than this one. We were actually looking at it during a class. It seems to be a pretty good system for them but I think the doublestack system would be better in the long run. I understand it would be a huge financial gamble for them..But honestly they may be able to use a "roadrailer" system and knock out the car all together....Look it up they are amazing to see in action.
people want to say that Americans have an obesity problem. well looking at this video and some of the videos on youtube. the people are going to get fatter then the US ever could. just look at some of the videos. companies coming out with ideas on how to move cargo from one gauged rail line to a bigger or smaller gauged rail line without having to touch any of the cargo. companies coming out with trucks and trailers that do every thing for you. don't have to even leave the cab to connect, disconnect, raise and lower the landing gear, electrical and brake connections and etc..
I think you are spending too much money in the wrong place. Keep the truck trailer and the rail car simple and spent the money on a lift to attach it to the rail car. Like a crane at a terminal for loading.
This is designed for very low volume stops, where the capital cost of traditional intermodal infrastructure wouldn't make sense. It's an attempt to help make local rail freight more relevant again, sadly only Switzerland seems to care about that 😕.
This ain’t your typical Walmart trailers that would be using this system. This is for low volume high value semi-loads that needs to be transported XC in record time
Seems impractical.... An overhead crane is much more efficient and are designed to lift both box trailers and containers. Not only that, this appears to require a specialized trailer to use
The Megaswing can be loaded and unloaded most anywhere without the need for a gantry crane etc.All that is needed is a hard surface. In that respect Flexiwaggon is the only competition www.flexiwaggon.se/ Mogalohr needs special terminals.lohr.fr/lohr-railway-system/. That said, even when using a gantry crane weather is a problem
I feel with that level of complexity in the wagon it will be quite expensive. Good work nonetheless and can definitely work in certain cases.

You can't compare US solutions. Flat car with a trailer on top is too high for most european rail lines.
Would be good to record the time taken to load one container using the megaswing versus traditional methods.
I would guess the megaswing is slower, than a lot of other methodes. But you don't need the local infrastructure wich is a big plus.
Das ist doch die HELROM Technologie. Super !!!
In the video they forget to show he also have to disconnect power cable, at far end in right side of image.

Is it possible to get one of these in model railways, 1:87 (HO) scale?

Das System von CargoBeamer i9st um ein vielfaches schneller und unkomplizierter. The System of CargoBeamer is the better anf faster version.
Esas Plataformas Portacontenedores Operables Son Impresionantes Y Facilitan Más En La Industria Marítima
would it hold a 53ft american trailer
Å vilken framgång det blev....
Why should I use that if you could just use an crane
Most trailers don't support crane loading
Не понятно снимок толька с правой стороны. А слевой стороны что твориться не покозывали почему???
What kind of shunter opens the door like he's backing up the family car?
+henerymag A rookie, I reckon.
He got it in there, didn't he?
Esas son las nuevas plataformas ferroviarias eléctricas ,están conmadre
Wie lange braucht man mit dem System ein ganzen Zug voll zu machen ? 2 Tage?
Can I get the model with the operator
make process short necessary
Intéressant mais cela me semble bien compliqué... le système MODALOHR me semble plus pertinent !
Impressive! :-o
Ridiculous! It takes too long, not to mention that a wagon of that type requires additional maintenance to ensure the integrity of the structure
If you have a better way, please invent one. The world would benefit from your knowledge, expertise and years of experience.
its much simpler to load and unload containers
Unloading containers requires infrastructure on site and is only easy if the line is not electrified.

It has nothing to do with laziness. Everything to do with less labor costs.
A weird type Wellcar

Das System ist ungeeignet, denn man muss einmal hinten Rechts am Wagen schauen. Das ist vollkommen ausgeblendet worden.
big waste of time designing that. overhead cranes can load 10 times faster. try designing something else.
