    So thanks to YT removing annotations altogether, instead of just disabling the ability to add them to new videos, it turns out none of the labelling I added to this video shows anymore (I lacked editing software at the time and couldn't add them through that). I doubt I'll redo the video with voiceover or new labels as I just honestly can't be bothered - there are better resources out there now anyway, thanks to the internet.

    That's why RO2 still got an upper edge toward more modern games. Fully modelled and animated tank interior!

      It's a really nice detail to have, and helps give you a better idea of just how submarine-like a tank can be at times. That said, it dramatically increases development time, both for art and for historical/technical research. I think it may have actually been a mistake in Tripwire's case as that increased development resource use caused it to take *years* before we had anything other than the T-34 obr. 1942 and Pz IV G, while Ostfront had something like a dozen vehicles and modders continued to add even more. You need a large and well-resourced team for this kind of stuff (or to be a specialised simulation developer), but the mainstream gaming devs with the resources to do it are the exact kind of devs who aren't so concerned with details like that.

    Wow! This is great! I always wanted to see the internals of a tank (atleast, some idea). Most games just show you the sights and nothing else but tripwire tried their best!

    jesus christ all those shells. i always wondered where they kept so many of them. sure the tanks were big but the shells aren't small either, seeing them stored something like lolipops in a candy store sure was....something. also poor driver, no pressure having all those explosives at the back of your head. i've seen documentaries with tankers stating they were more afraid being inside the tank in combat, basically sitting on all that firepower just waiting to blow their asses off literaly if they were hit. i can see why now lol

      getting hit in the ammo rack and exploding is actually pretty luck compared to all the other ways you can die inside a tank

      @FallNorth The wild thing is that when that arrangement was cooked up in the late 50s and early 60s it actually represented a *substantial* improvement compared to anything else in service. Until Abrams, western tanks were essentially self-propelled ammo racks - stowage scattered all over and often in the most likely places to get hit. The carousel designs (AZ type especially) put the throwing charges down low and central in the tank, under armour and in the statistically least likely place to be hit... but time left them behind as separate compartments and blowout panels began to appear. Even so, at the end of the 20th century, still only the Abrams had fully separate ammo and even then the blast doors need to be closed and intact for it to work fully. Leo 2 still has a massive spare rack in the hull so it relies more on insensitive propellants that won't go off when hit.
      Worth note that the T-72 specifically ended up negating that advantage of the autoloader though - the second reload worth of ammo was scattered all over and thus presented almost as large a target as the previous generation of tanks. T-64 and 80 carousels presented a larger target than the 72's but had less scattered spares.

    I am aware that this video is over 5 years old, but I do not know if the channel owner still peeks at this, anyway, this is not an Ausf. F2; the major misconception that people do all the time is believe that a rounded muzzle brake = immediately an F2.
    That idea is false, as early Ausf. Gs retained the round muzzle brake and had its paintjob as the same Panzergrau until later, where they got their iconic Dunkelgelb and Boxed Muzzle Brakes, the game developers made no mistake calling this an Ausf. G, as I am aware it is named so in the game, their mistake was not calling it G(Early).
    The same misconception is done with any or most Schürzen-fitted Ausf. Gs aswell, people immediately believe it is an Ausf. H just because it had armor skirts.
    Although arguably the F series was being produced still within 1942(Where the game likely initially based itself off) it was also when they halted the F series and started to make productions of the thicker 80mm frontal hull versus the 49.8mm/50mm of the F series, the fact that it is "harder" to be penetrated by the T-34 front-on by the game somewhat proves this may be the Early G series.
    Channel OP, if you're still here, renaming this to the F2 because someone likely from War Thunder or a different with an immediate reaction after seeing the brake saw it as such or some joe told you to, or said "it is", I suggest you rename the original title back as Ausf. G(Early), no hard feelings to those who did so, it happens too often--nontheless, very thoroughly done on your video of inspecting the beautiful interior of the IV.

      Aktually, it was 49.75mm to be exact, lol. Seriously where did you get that number? As far as I know no country in WW2 manufactured armor plates for tanks with sub mm precision.

      @@peasant8246 Jesus Christ, I actually look pretty mean with this rather old comment, I actually apologize for sounding like an absolute jerk, and as for the armor value, I reckon I found it on a website that discussed the Panzer IV F2(G)/Ausf. G(Early) but that's probably long gone and I've lost the bookmark for it, good correction though, gotta have that precise number, lol.

      @peasant8246 Least of all Germany- their plates varied enough in dimension that it meant no two tanks had truly interchangeable structural elements. The Brits had the same issue, in both cases due to more outdated production processes. Soviet and US tanks were generally consistent across a particular factory's production but not across the entire type, as factories modified production to best suit their existing competencies and equipment.

      Same here. Really felt like tanks just weren't worth it in RO2 - shit map design, lack of variety, and being unable to scout ahead on foot killed it for me. Interiors are cool, but only with the mechanics to back them up.

      The Polish community seems healthy as I get steam notifications from them fairly regularly for fight nights. Unfortunately, from Australia, that means 380-450ms ping, which is basically unplayable.

    In the real Pz. IV(except Ausf. J) the electric and manual turret travers were used by the same handwheel, like in this game? I thought that the Germans used foot pedals to control power traverse.

      Unsure, but I think you're right. I know that the same control was used in the T-34 M1944, but other than that most tanks used separate controls.

    Imagine a game like M1 Tank Platoon 2 or Gunner Heat PC! in World War 2 with this level of detail. That would be my dream, you start with a Pz.Kpfw. I, work your way up and in the end you drive something like a Tiger or Tiger II

    Red Orchestra 2. Don't get it, it's unfinished and watered down. Red Orchestra: Ostfront is the actually good one.
    That said, the Rising Storm addon for RO2 is decent.

    How do you move your turret with out using the sight? :)

      As commander, you can left click while facing a particular direction to make the turret turn automatically to that heading.

    where is the electrical turret traverse, I see manual but not power traverse. I also think the turret traverse is wrong. (correct me if I'm wrong)

      Red Fox Power traverse is under the elevation controls, notice he doesen't crank it, just turn a bit, that's the PT, the manual hand-crank needs to be enabled with a lever in the controls right under the Elevation Controls, Main Gun trigger is also located on the Traverse crank.

      This match? Yes. Does the game have it? Not really. It just throws a bunch of bots with really bad pathfinding into multiplayer maps.
