Geez, I just stumbled across this and I'm stunned speechless with tears in my eyes. What a beautiful song and truly awesome musicians. Thank you, I'm blessed to have found this.
I was at Dolly wood in Tenn. when I first heard the Krueger Bros. play. After the concert I spoke to Jens, found out that they lived in the Swiss Alps. I asked Jens if he had ever gone to Colorado to see the Rockies. They said no, but they were asked to play at the Teluride Blue grass feast able every year.I asked them when they were playing again, he said next week again at Dolly wood, so I brought them some pictures of the Rockies and gave them to Jens and his brother so they went and played at Teluride the next year. They are really down to earth great guy's.
+Richard Kendrick That is a cool story, thanks for sharing it! Although I had met Jens about 5 years ago, the first time I met Uwe and Joel was last year at Musikmesse Frankfurt where we were all playing, representing Deering Banjos. It was such a great time... lots of good memories! BTW, you are right, they are down to earth as well as being awesome musicians!
I can't stop listening to this song. Because of this tune, I drove 165 miles each way this past weekend to see the Kruger Brothers. They didn't play this song but Uwe told me after the show that they'll play it the next time I see them! I got my picture taken with all 3 guys. What a fantastic night!!!
Saw the Kruger Brothers in Toronto a few years back. These gentlemen are the very finest musicians. Jens and Uwe have one of the finest bass players on the planet IMHO. Joel is simply everything a bass player should be.
Just had an amazing weekend in Huddersfield Yorkshire where the Krugers were not only performing but also gave a workshop in the afternoon. Three of the best performers I have seen and heard but also I had the privilege of meeting them as they mingled with the fans - another tick in my bucket list, Oh and got to meet and chat to the Deering family who were also at the day organised by the guys at Eagle Music. Roll on next year i will be counting the days
This is Chet Atkins level of precise musicianship with songs best delivered with exactly that. No yodles, no falsettos, no exaggerated bending, in fact, special hooks, just the lyrics and the music. For my ears that is a hook and I am loving it. Thanks for the tune @doubletime. It was a double pleasure.
Incredible! George Grove of The Kingston Trio just told me about Jens' banjo playing. George personally thinks that he is the best banjo player that he has ever heard. I immediately fell in the love with Forever and a Day; the very first song that I have heard from these guys! Can't wait to listen to more and I will be ordering the new Christmas CD and a few others.
Old post I know, but had to add on: Just heard these guys for the first time on Radio Paradise (thanks again, Bill!) and was really taken by their sound and it wasn't till the end of this that it struck me that all those hours as a kid in the 60s listening to my parents' Kingston Trio albums were flooding back in. Great sound guys! Hope you're still doing well.
@doubletimemusic I might add that you play it better than anyone else on this planet. You and the other band members are like a bottomless well - there is no end to the depth of your talent. I know that might sound hokey but it's still the truth. Thank you for the years of beautiful music.
You guys always amaze me. Having grown up in Switzerland, it is just amazing to me that you have not only mastered a sound that is very American, but brought an extra richness and evocativeness to it that is just hard to describe. And that's on top of your straight-up incredible musicianship. Thank you for this! This country is richer with you in it!
So I'm an American student from South Carolina living in Mannheim, Germany while I pursue my bachelor. I'm learning the banjo and hope that I'll one day have a fifth of the skill that Jens Kruger has. This song hit me like a train. I can't wait to go home for Christmas to see my family and friends again. Love listening to the amazing music that you guys have produced and I hope that one day I can get the chance to thank you guys in person for the wonderful feelings that your music has created.
I miss these guys so much. My mom Malina Myers was close enough with these guys that I got the pleasure of being around them a lot. She even recorded some songs with them. They used to play "Tumble Weed" for me on my birthday. I was inspired to play the upright bass because of these wonderful people and now I am an all state bassist in MO! I never stop thinking about ya'll.
@fwmartin2000 Greeting from Jens. The list of strings are as follows: 5th string(short string) - F 4th string - B Flat, 3rd String - F, 2nd String B Flat, 1 String - C.
My sister a banjo player introduced me to Kruger Brothers..I love their music and am so grateful for such talented musicians. This song is moving because We just lost our mother.
See, I am kind of a metal guy and also listen to a lot of electronic music that is far from being innocuous. But I cannot help but feel touched by music like this that brims with authenticity and heart. Kudos.
The banjo is perfect .... every note is in the right place ... just perfect ... Thank you very much Kruger Brothers to make my life special with your music .. Peace !!!
First saw them on educational TV and could not believe my ears. Fantastic isn't superlative enough. I was learning to play the banjo and thought, geez, I'll never come even close to Jens.
One of the most balanced songs I've ever heard. I really had never thought of the banjo as a lead instrument until I heard this song, now I search itunes and Pandora for banjo songs. K Brothers, make more songs like this. The instrumental is melodic and the lead singer has an excellent toned voice. Which artist does the lead singer sound like? Keep up the good work, you have opened alot of peoples ears and gained more followers.
It never crossed my mind that Uwe sounds like Gordon Lightfoot, but you are absolutely right, especially on certain notes. I am so looking forward to seeing them again in Georgia this November!
Awesome song ! This is so pretty and i thought it sounded like a song from the old country, like a song the irish or scottish folks brought over here when they settle in America. I enjoyed listening to all sing.
The Kruger Brothers have so many wonderful songs, but this one is my absolute favorite! I can't wait to see them at the Vail Theatre of the Arts in Tucson on September 12.
I just can't get them out of my head and my eyes! To look at, the most likeable guys that crossed my vision for a many many a long time and the beauty of their playing is utterly heartbreaking in its purity and its absolute perfection. They have given the world, us,,.,.,. a remarkable pleasure of which joy and description is impossible to describe .... Only your loved ones, when everything is perfect, can remotely compare with this miraculous musical magic. So Kruger bros,.,.,.forgive this Big Jock(Scotsman) for a moment while I wait till you all end this treasure of a song,,, so I can pour myself a guid dram o' whisky and let the tears fall like the 'river you stand by' whilst I remember my own mother,.,., and everybody else's... OHHHHH Thank you men.... Oh Thank you, Ahhhhh such comfort.
Hello Kruger Brothers! I was at your seminar (with Uwe) in Florida with Dave J. and at the Four Arts concert this past spring. This song has been stuck in my head for many months now. A real classic!!! Everyone I've played it for has loved it. Continued health and success to all three of you!! My wife and teenagers enjoyed the concert immensely, by the way! Please come back to South Florida soon! Oh, and we LOVE Joel too!! Fantastic player with the sweetest bass tone ever! Ed
This, right here folks, tells it all-the good Banjo players "practice over & over until they get it right". The great Banjo players "practice over & over until they can't get it wrong".
I don’t know what it is but his voice is haunting, touches your soul with this song. This will always be at the top of my songs and I will listen every time I see it. Everybody comes together to make the perfect complete song.
Lost my mother a few months ago and this song speaks so directly to my heart and the loss I feel. You folks are so evocative in your playing. Thanks so much for putting music to my feelings. I am a life long banjo player and , Jens , your banjo playing is so tonal and nuanced...You are just so refreshing to hear. Excellent, Beautiful, Thanks

Iam still here in wilkes,i live right behind the college at Merlefest..
Saw them recently in the north of England, they were so genuine, friendly, and the live playing was out of this world. Jens plays everything from Bach, Mozart to bluegrass, was spellbound, and didn't take my banjo out of the case!
Hi! I've just discovered treasure here on RUclips and so glad I did. You're all so skilled and professional and at the same time you're obviously really enjoying your wonderful music. I'm telling everyone about you! You have such a great sound and such synchronicity! I'm looking forward to many more hours of happy listening and watching. Thank you for doing what you do! May God bless you all.
Long distance bus driver here. Driving London to Vienna, entering austria through the snowy mountains and this song appeared on the radio
That must have been a moment.
OK-it's official. Jens Kruger is the coolest cat to ever pick a banjo. What a deceptively simple arrangement of a fantastic tune.
Immer wieder ein Ohrenschmaus dieser Song. Die Familie Krüger ist sehr idyllisch anzusehen.😘👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@ArkRed1
I'm proud to say that I play a Deering Banjo.

I always end up coming back here, after 13 years. You guys inspired me when I was at my lowest. Thank you for this masterpiece.
They tend to do that.
Geez, I just stumbled across this and I'm stunned speechless with tears in my eyes. What a beautiful song and truly awesome musicians. Thank you, I'm blessed to have found this.

I first heard this driving through the mountains of West Virginia. One of the most beautiful songs ever.
Saw the concert in Altdorf, Switzerland on 03-24-2010. Played the new songs. It was great. "Jungs" this was world class.
This song almost makes me tear up this morning. I miss my family.
We're sure they are missing you, too. Thank you for listening.

A wonderful performance as only as the Kruger Brothers could play. I love "forever and a day". The banjo player is incredibly gifted
Jens banjo playing can be so soothing
Jen's brother has a beautiful voice! I am excited about seeing them at Weber State University in Ogden on Feb 28. I love those Deering banjos!
