  • Stage smoke sickness, misogyny in hip-hop, and alcoholic meltdowns. Whether these reasons were outside of their control or out on stage for everyone to see, each of them caused musicians to be ousted from their lifelong career.

      I've also heard that there were a couple of times when Syd's mother would call one of them and say something to the effect of, "He's back." Meaning, Syd had come out of his cataleptic state. The band would all go over to mum's house and visit with Syd for a while. Sadly, after a few hours he'd start to slip away again. I believe it was Gilmour who I heard in an interview, talking about it, but this was decades ago.

      As for him getting royalties. That only happened recently when The Beatles released their "The Beatles Anthology" series. Up until then he wasn't getting anything.
      When that happened he became a millionaire from only the few songs he played drums on, which was enough to make him a millionaire. Most of those songs by themselves wouldn't even chart and Pete never would have made any money on them, but because they were early Beatle songs, people wanted to buy them and hear them.

    When comes to the DeYoung\STYX split, I appreciate the accuracy of the reporting here. Starting with that his former band mates fired
    eplaced DeYoung rather then the common false reports that he left the band of his own accord. Also, they cover both sides here as well. More recently you mostly see the revisionist history told that attempts to put his former band mates in a better shade of light.

    • @RichM3000
      @RichM3000 Год назад +2

      It seems somewhat more consolidated now, at least in the root cause. Dennis DeYoung was the leader/tyrant (depending on point of view) and the other members wanted a bigger say.
      The other stuff stemmed from that. DeYoung got fired or quit when he didn't tour because he was or wasn't having vision issues? There wouldn't have been an issue were it not for the root cause of who was in charge. DeYoung spending too much on the Kilroy Was Here stage show? Same.
      Even the creative differences were not insurmountable. After all, both factions currently play mostly the same songs, with the exceptions of Babe and a couple other minor songs.

Finally, some adult listened to that first sentence, "we don’t need no education." They forced us to have another vote with another song. We chose Lynard Skynard's Freebird. When we marched onto the field, the faculty only played the opening instrumental. I think Freebird was class song for at least 10 years. I know when I attended my cousin's graduation it was... and they still wouldn't play the lyrics.

    Ι wonder who was really from Yes. Was it Jon Anderson or the rest of the band by him. Besides, this was not the first time he had left the band. In 1980 they recorded DRAMA and toured with Trevor Horn instead of him.

    I'm shocked you didn't mention Bruce Johnston's 1972 parting of the ways with The Beach Boys.
    Ask Bruce, he'll say he quit due to creative differences, mainly because he was against the band's harder and more rock oriented direction.
    Jack Reilly claims he fired Bruce for alleged disrespect to the Wilson brothers.
    The delicious irony is Reilly would be fired after Holland
