    2:45 It might be fun to let it turn black & see what it looks like at the end & if it changes the flavor. Black sugar could be an interesting ingredient or garnish.

      ​@@brandonmonroe7050 this is just normal RUclips in my opinion. Fairly normal people showing people how to do things with fairly normal supplies. I think people forget that those prim and proper youtbers almost ALL started with videos like this that they have since purged. It's not like at under 1k subs he is making much off RUclips if anything so being he very likely LOST money making the video I think the production value is top notch.

    Is the round albino beet as sweet as the regular pointed sugar beet? Im looking to make syrup.

      I have never tried the pointed Beet. This was my first attempt at making sugar. I concluded that maple sap is actually easier though it takes longer. Thanks for watching.

    Save yourself a LOT of standing around and watching, dump your mash into a crock pot and turn it on low overnight. Simmers down nice and gentle.

    When using a peeler, stab the thing with fork, then peel the impaled thing.

    The failed projects are the ones you have to put all your faith behind. Sowing the beet seeds go harvesting them to processing. All of it takes effort and time and practice. I’m so excited to see your beer sugar when you’ve practiced this a few times. Magical

      Although we need to remember "a people grows great when the men plant trees in whose shade they will never sit" because it doesn't always have to be bad. Let's make sure our children and their children have it better.

    The issue with beets is that it needs refining. You haven't extracted the molasses so the sucrose can't crystallize.

      @THand141Homestead there are a pair of chemicals that you can add in the water to pull out the contaminents then you can crystalise it to granulated sugar. That's why you see the word refined on sugar sinceits the same for can as well.

    I don't waste money on bottled water. I get a 5 gallon office water dispenser and fill it from the sink. I lived on a German farm in Texas and it had an old horse drawn sugar beet grinder and a wood stove outside for boiling molasses. Nice video. I get wounded in the kitchen also🤣

      @@THand141Homestead yep, you mentioned that. I come from a beekeeping family and those bees will give you more honey and wax than you can use AND give you a cash crop!

    Wax paper??!? Parchment paper!!! I'm just wondering why it has to be dried into powder and can't be used as a liquid?

      I would imagine it could be used as a liquid, you would have to get it down to the moisture content of honey which I think is around 18% to prevent fermentation in storage. I am pretty sure that and measuring out the portions for recipes are really the only reasons to go with powder over liquid.

    Did you name your channel for how many times you plan to hurt your hands?😂
    Maybe try a fan blowing across it.
    I saw someone making a type of sugar and when it was syrup they used a mixer. After a while it crystalized. I had never seen that before.
    I have ordered regular sugar beet seeds from three different companies. I figured genetic diversity and all that lol
    I just like beets so I thought throwing one sweet one in a dish would be good. Well, in a dish i want sweeter and don't mind beet flavor. Maybe to cut sugar in a chocolate cake or something.

      I honestly have no idea. it is a root vegetable so I would assume like a week or two before your last frost date. Hope this helps.

      Not necessary I don't think, but it is easier to remove the product from those than from a baking dish I would think.

      Mandolins are also known for their finger filleting qualities; a peeler or grater will cut you, but a mandolin will mess you up.

    Those peelers are crazy sharp. Thankfully, my bf bought me a kitchenaid stand mixer and the meat grinder, shredder attachment. Makes shredding a breeze now. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the grinder or peeler attachment yet.

    Thank you so much for your honest vídeo. It's nice to know which mistakes we are supposed to avoid. Here, in Portugal, there aren't many maples to make cyrup. As for the bees, i'm in a urban zone. Beetroot sugar would definetely be my kind of sugar!

    I would have crushed them, then squeezed them out and soaked them in water. And I would squeeze again. Then I would boil the water until it became syrup and throw away a teaspoon of sugar to crystallize the sugar.

      Crushing them might be difficult as they are quite solid. But I am up for almost anything! Thanks for the suggestions.

      ​@@THand141Homestead it's not a cheap tool but an Apple Grinder for Cider making would probably fit the bill. Sometimes you can find old ones that need some TLC and can score them for a song.

      I like to try things the old manual ways when I can. I paid for it in blood this time. But being off grid, a watt saved is a watt to use later.
