Footwork and hand placement can be taught. Height, strength, speed and the Tongan warrior spirit can't! Jerry Jones sure runs his mouth alot while the Detroit Lions GM quietly finds and drafts the diamonds in the rough. He gave up a third round pick next year for this guy. Based on his prior draft history as Lions' GM, he has earned my trust. This guy could develop into a solid starter, if not more. Go Lions!

Man idk how many udfa's get 16 nfl teams, 30+ scouts and 8 top 30's. Saying his technique is sloppy is just wrong too. He's coached by a legend in the offensive line community in Dan Dorazio and it seems like there is a bit of an American football bias here. Just because it's Canada doesn't mean it's bad football.

Gio was an immigrant from the island of Tonga in the South the Pacific where he learned to play Rugby which is the national sport of all Polynesian islands. He's fit into Canadian culture very well with a friendly positive attitude after his family settled in Pitt Meadows, a rural suburb of Vancouver in a lovely valley with rivers and a huge lake. I saw Gio play in High School Football for a small school, Pitt Meadows Secondary. Since I played and coached Football I knew from just watching him destroy guys on the field that he was going to play professionally either in the CFL or NFL, where he'll make a lot more money. All the kids liked him in school because he worked hard and was a gentle giant until he put the pads. He was an Allstar at UBC which has higher academic standards than American schools so if your grades aren't good enough, you are not allowed to play Football. He anchored an incredible Offensive Line and helped the team get to the national championship, the Vanier Cup. The other Tackle, just as talented, was Theo Benedet, the only Canadian in the 2023 US Shrine Bowl. Theo's a great guy but only 6'7", 305 lbs and won the best Lineman trophy in Canadian University two years in a row. Strangely he was not Drafted but still immediately signed with the Chicago Bears. He came from my old High School, Handsworth in North Vancouver.

OL are my favorite positions to analyze/critique. (High school to college)
    Giovanni Manu (this film alone)
PROS: Perfect size for OT, overall athletic, STRONG punch, aggressive at and through contact. Ability to get ro second level.
CONS: Slow feet, doesn't cover ground efficiently in kickstep, undisplined hands on contact, inability to move defender beyond line of scrimmage. Run block leverage and technique lacking.
SUMMARY: Scouts love his size and athleticism, has a lot of negatives, but all can be corrected through training. Multiyear project that could churn out a solid backup or average level starter at RT. Low risk, mid-high reward
PREDICTION: Late 7th round round or Undrafted guaranteed walk-on.

I agree. As a lions fans. Why did we draft him so high? He should have been undrafted.
If BC played any American schools then we could measure stats.
I thought the workouts were only small measurement? Well I guess not.
So lions decide to ignore major things. Where you play? pFF doesn’t matter? Stats don’t matter ?
    Who your coach is?
Michigan has 6 offensive line that played power 5 and rated better than this guy. And better coaches. And more pff grades.
