Great video thanks for sharing. I'm planning to visit Melbourne next January. I was also able to visit Standfontein when I lived in CapeTown about 20 years ago!
Wow! You saw loads of birds when you were there! Great to see how it was 7 years ago. The bird hide looked pretty new then (bit weathered now but still great!!). I should have a look for the Fairy Martin nests next time I'm there! I know that building but we haven't ever spotted those nests before. Must stop & look next time. Loved the Swamp Harrier footage! Amazing bird & it must have been pretty close to see it swooping low like that! ~ Karen
Thanks I only had 1 day there but really needed a week. I'm from South Africa but live in London now. But we have a similar place in Cape Town called Standfontein Sewage works. Its an awesome birding spot but not as big as the Western Treatment Plant. Thank goodness my movie making skills have improved over the years. 😆
What an amazing area with thousands of birds. A must see for a devoted birdwatcher. I think one should use 2-3 days here. Only this area alone is reason enough to visit Victoria. Thank you so much for filming this. So many species of birds at one place. I have been visited several good places around the world for wintering birds, but seems like this would be the best area so far.
Thank you so much for this video. I have lived 30minutes up the rd and never knew this place existed. Your video has just made me place this one my top 5 places to visit!! Lol. I thought it was pretty anazing that many of those shots were taken inside your car. Just unbelievable.
Was just there this last weekend and found for the 2nd time a Black Falcon perched along Pt Wilson Road, I believe there may be at least two. And the path that leads to the bird hide, off to the right in the small section of water, got some great shots o a Spotted Crake...it is arguably one of the greatest spots for bird spotting or photography.
Thank you very much. I've birded all over the world and the WTPlant is top notch. It was my 2nd trip to Oz. The equipment I use is nothing special just my little Canon SX60.
I visited on my trip to Oz and had to get a key from the offices to the treatment plant to get through the various gates. Do a Google search everything you need can be found online.

Really enjoyed the video, reminded me of my recent trip to South Australia in Jan, can I ask what equipment you used please?

I'd hang about till after Sept I think Canon are about to release the latest version of their SX range. Mega zoom.
Hi we went last year but it was really big so didn’t know where to start. Where are the good spots? Do you have a plan? Thanks.
Only the map that's inserted in the beginning of the video found here. birdinglovers.com/2014/01/03/the-western-treatment-plant-for-beginners/
That's a lot of birds!! 👍👍
How do I find this place I am not far from Werribee

If you live nearby I'd rather get a yearly membership to get your own keys.
Please slow down
