    I’ve got one of those, and love it , great for food processing and mine has a nice square spine for scraping a faro rod or a piece of fat wood. Yeah, I know , it’s a cheap knife , but golly it takes a razor edge well.

    I got my wife that knife for Christmas last year. She forgot her can opener on a solo trip this summer, so this is an extra helpful video for me. Thanks bud

    From my understanding Naniwa puts extra polishing compound in the superstone / specialty stone line to make them excellent polishers. I have the 5K,8K and 12K for razors

    Another great tutorial for those of us working on our freehand sharpening technique. I am trying to encourage a friend of mine to not be so intimidated to sharpen his Scandi grind knife, so will definitely pass along this video for him to watch. Thanks Kyle!

    • @caniaccharlie

      Tell your friend that a Scandi is the easiest grind to sharpen! There's no guessing on the angle, and you can really feel when you're on the right spot or not.

    In an earlier Mora sharpening video, you used various grits of sandpaper instead of stones. Is there a reason for one vs the other? i.e. the hybrid scandi would not do as well on the sandpaper? Or perhaps factory edge vs used? Thanks so much for your videos - I've really learned a lot!

    • @caniaccharlie
      @caniaccharlie Год назад

      I am not speaking for him, and not sure if I am remembering which video I am roughly paraphrasing what Kyle said as he has more than one using sandpaper, but I believe he was showing that you don't necessarily need expensive gear to get great results. I use various grits of sandpaper locked in a sanding block and stropping stokes for most all of my touching up of my edges. This works great on my Mora Companion especially since it's so easy to maintain the right angle on that scandi grind!

    It was your sharpening Moras that brought me to this channel in the first place. I've always avoided those compound grind Mora because of the difficulty sharpening so this one is very welcome.

    Have you ever used or sharpened a Grohmann knife? I bought the survival #4 carbon steel early this year, and I've found that it doesn't hold an edge for anything. No matter how much I sharpen, strop or hone it, the edge doesn't get as sharp as my mora, and it loses what edge it does have after barely any use. I bought it mainly because I wanted to support local, but I'm kinda regretting my decision now.

    I find my shapton glass 320 doesn’t cut very fast does the blue black cut faster ,?

    • @twatmunro
      @twatmunro Год назад

      Blue Black is fantastic -- cuts really fast. I've got a couple of coarse diamond plates but I swear I get a better, faster, more consistent burr on my Kuro-maku blue/black. (Love the Shapton Glass 1000 and 5000 though.)

    Still confused on the “throttling” while doing the strokes? I thought we want the edge to lay flat because it’s a scandi ?
