It’s probably not the tubes. It’s the filter capacitors. The old ones were made from paper and foil. They would be bad by now.I replaced the ones in my ‘55 Belair, and all is good now. It was making the exact sound. I learned how to do it by watching radio repair vids here on RUclips.I just subscribed. Thanks
@@WestMountainClunkers There''s a RUclipsr in Canada called Mr. Carlsons Lab that goes waaaaay in depth on rebuilding/restoring old radios/electronics. As Bennie said, the capacitors are the first items to go bad. If you run the radio a long time with those bad caps, they'll start taking out other components. Love the channel -- great to see you guys not being afraid to dig into stuff and learn!
your video was really super we all really enjoyed it a lot, looks like a lot of work but in the end its going to look great you guys are really very talented
Yeah, the floors are pretty bad but you guys repaired the floor of the Pontiac so I'm sure you can do it again. Just tackle one section at a time. I know money's tight for young guys but if you can find aftermarket replacement panels it might be a good idea to get what's available. That would save alot of time since everything from the bottom of the firewall back will need cut out. Since you said the roof wasn't full of holes then a window or 2 were probably left open for many years. Obviously rust like that don't happen overnight.
If you're not old school it's sometimes more difficult to learn backwards. The floor shouldn't be too much problem.. get an old car and use the metal from that. Cheers boys 🍻🍺
Floors are probably some of the easiest rust repairs to do. They just need to be solid, but not perfect looking. Watch some other RUclips channels, Half Ass Customs, Carter Auto Restyling, Cold War Motors etc for tips and tricks.
Its coming, but its going to be a while. We got a lot of stuff to do before we throw it in the car. We are trying to get it to the machine shop soon and we are collecting parts for a rebuild.

The old radios have tubes. Might have a bad one. Great video. Thanks
AM radio may need to be outside to pick up anything. The flourescent lighting might also be interfering with reception.

Retry the radio without the florescent lights on in your garage. They’ll cause interference in the radio!
Interesting, I didnt know that was a thing. We will definitely give that a try, thank you!
W is your video of the big block 472
