Hello everyone! This week's watercolour video is for this lovely Queen Anne's lace flower tutorial. This plant is also known as wild chervil or cow parsley in the UK, and is such a pretty white spray of fuzzy blooms, I think it lends itself really well to the masking fluid technique here.
Equipment list: I'm using Millford brand watercolour paper, 100% cotton, 140lb weight, Cold Pressed, size a quarter imperial (roughly A3). To put down the masking fluid I am using a 'Masquepen' I purchased online from eBay, although I'm sure you can get them elsewhere online or from art stores! My colours today are: Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Payne's Grey, and Perelyne Green, as well as a little White Gouache. All are Winsor & Newton brand tube colours. My brushes are: a Daler Rowney large Aquafine 'Skyflow' flat synthetic wash brush, size 2 inches; a pair of Pro Arte 'Sword' synthetic liner brushes size Small and Large; an Escoda Ultimo synthetic mop brush size 10; a Princeton Neptune small synthetic round brush size 4; and a Daler Rowney Aquafine synthetic fan brush size 2.
Thank you all for watching, folks, and I hope you enjoy the video!

Another wonderful tutorial! I absolutely love the sound of the birds singing in the background...I kept wondering why I was hearing birds singing at 10pm while I was watching your video until I realized it was coming from my Telly LOL! Thank you for your video...Many blessings, Rus from across the pond in Pennsylvania ❤️ 🤓🎨🖌

So dreamy yet realistic! My ah-ha takeaway from this tutorial is to leave light between the groups. NOW it makes sense. Thank you! 💙🌵💙🌵

This painting really makes me think of you, it's natural, free, peaceful, and a real joy to see. No, don't blush, I'm not using soft talk to twist your arm into putting the kettle on for me. ... LOL
I've lived life a little "out of the box" for about 30 years, where I look for positives in people, and compliment them on those good points. It's to easy to run people down with harsh criticism, and all too commonly done too. I know how much the bad talk drags me down, so I won't do it to anyone else.
A time of feeling low has been bestowed upon me of late. Even though a very dear and precious friend has offered to buy tickets for my wife and I to visit the Van Gogh exhibition in London, we just can't get there. And much heavier on the heart, my dear lovely Mum is very close to passing. 3, maybe 4 days will see her move on. Not the best year really, what with Her Majesty going as well, it's a bit much.
Back to the now, and your beautiful painting. I think it needed to be quite crowded to look natural. It's perfectly timed to fit in with the changing seasons. Due to a dry summer, a lot of these flowers near us are about finished for this year. But the grass in enjoying a revival after being parched for logs month, and is growing like mad. My old bag neighbour can't eat it fast enough to keep it a reasonable length... LOL. NOT TRUE, my ladies that live either side of us are really very sweet.
Right, I'm going to look at Lois's video, then try and get some overdue kip. Be well sweet one. TTFN.

Dear morgaine, such a wonderful plant with delicate little flowers. I have always thought that hedgerow plants and weeds actually have the most beautiful pretty flowers so often seen on country walks . Love the misty background, lovely colours and great brush strokes with the sword liner. I will try this scene with some salt sprinkled on it , think it will have great effect and finally a good spattering of white gouache 👍😍 to stop me over working it 😁 Well done morgaine

Thank you! I agree, I think some of the loveliest flowers I see are the so-called weeds I pass in the hedges! ❤ I think the salt could be a brilliant idea as well! 😍❤️
