Hii! I just wanted to add something on the boredom topic that I wish I touched on in the video. As it relates to work, while I do have a job I love currently that’s more creative and varies each day, I have worked traditional jobs both before, during and after college and have definitely experienced boredom in jobs. Every job has pros and cons and it’s great to be able to find something you and enjoy doing where the pros outweigh the cons and make up for the mundane parts of your work. Every one has moments of not loving certain tasks in work or life of course like chores and boring aspects of jobs, but for me personally as an adult I feel like there’s too many things I can do to be bored when I’m functioning and not working. To me, doing shitty chores like housework, taxes, bills, etc is just a part of life, you may not enjoy doing it but I don’t feel *truly* bored when I’m doing them, I’m just focusing on getting them done. It’s a different boredom than like true extreme boredom as a child (maybe this is more an only child thing haha). Also this might be an upside to chronic pain, since your functioning time is limited, there’s so many things you look forward to doing and just being out of bed is exciting so sometimes just moving your legs and breathing air is fun and something to be thankful for. I can’t imagine having that time and not knowing what to do with it it. 😀🖤

I'm bored almost constantly lol. I'm chronically ill too, but I'm mostly in bed. It drives me literally insane. I can rarely read books anymore as I can't retain what I've just read. I was a voracious reader before I got sick, so i miss it like crazy! Audio books aren't my thing either, as I'll just zone out.
I love doing art, but it's health dependant. Haven't done any since last summer when I had a bad health crash. I enjoy creating tiktoks (video/audio) without me in them, so that passes a little bit of time, plus watching box-sets and YT. 💗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When I was in college my theatre professor had a mantra he lived by and I adopted it as well...when your job stops being fun, it's time to find a new job. Fun being a relative term. I'm 59 and it's worked well for me. It's prevented the boredom from setting in and taking root. I've also applied it to everyday life. My daughter introduced me to your videos and I enjoy watching them. I especially enjoy the travel vlogs. Thank you for what you do!

Opening a book is like opening another world for me. I can to be someone else, in a new place. Sometimes I get to go back in time or forward in the future, I might be rich, poor, young, old..learning different cultures.....I could be part of someones imagination or I could be a true story..I could just be myself learning about me and how I work, or I could read how other things work. Books are a relief from my anxieties and also a good bonding tool for my children, even friends. Like you said, you're getting something out of it and you never feel shittier after reading.🖤📚

Amazing how much practical advice it has, even just in Proverbs alone. There’s a verse in there that says “A wise person listens and takes in more instruction…” which I thought was exactly to your point about how much you wouldn’t have known if you hadn’t read all those books. This might be a little more niche but there is a book called Firekeeper’s Daughter that really changed my life. I’m “half” Native American/ half white and the book is written from the perspective of a teenage girl who is mixed. I just felt like it really shifted my view of my place in the indigenous community and how to stay connected to my culture. It is also realistic fiction and a murder mystery but it doesn’t lose the poignancy and heart of the author’s message about Anishinaabe teachings and blood quantum issues.

I enjoyed it as well but it does have a handful of negative reviews that I definitely understand. If you are a survivor of sexual trauma at the hands of a man especially, tread with caution. The author talks about his work with soldiers who have PTSD from Vietnam, and a lot of their PTSD involves some sort of trauma that they imposed on other people. The author doesn’t do a great job about sympathizing for the survivors of that trauma but does sympathize for the soldiers who imposed that trauma and now suffer from PTSD.

Reading is EVERYTHING to me. I have always been a huge reader and love great fiction, which often presents fundamental truths in an absorbing story. I was raised by libraries! As an Army family, we moved all the time so I never knew anybody, and the first thing I did in a new town was to get my library card. The good towns let you check out 10 at a time! I couldn't read for pleasure in my rush to finish college in 3 years, but as soon as I graduated, I started reading a lot of classics I'd never read. It was so fun since I didn't have to write a paper about them. Many decades later, I'm still always in the middle of a book (or two).📚

Book recommendation: Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl - a must read for everyone.
Boredom - As an adult I agree there’s always so much to do that it’s hard to be bored. But, I DO feel bored w/ my mundane repetitive routine of life & doing the same shit over & over again everyday. I’d like to bored in the true way where you’re just feeling like “I’m bored bc I have nothing to do” then you just sort of daydream. Research shows that boredom like that - true boredom - stimulates creativity & is great for kids. The sad thing is kids today do not ever have the opportunity to feel true boredom bc there’s always a screen/device to distract & as we all know, that’s not so good.
One more thought about what you mentioned Taylor. As a high school English teacher I agree that is the absolute worst to make kids read a book they don’t want to read. At my school all of our English courses use the “multi-novel” unit. Students are given a selection of books (all related by a theme) to choose from for their novel study & ISU. I always tell them if you hate the book, pick a different one bc there’s nothing worse than reading something you don’t like. This unit is student directed, so they group up w/ others who chose the same novel they did & they make notes, discuss, collaborate about the book rather than learning what the teacher tells them. It’s not perfect but it’s an improvement from the old school way. It’s based in research that shows students get a lot more out of reading when it is self-directed. So we teach them how to analyze & understand books then they apply those skills to their chosen books & make their own meaning w/ their peers.
    Love you Taylor! ❤ xoxo

I wish I would have had programs like that when I was in school. My class cohort went from teachers who stuck to the Dead White Guys Cannon to teachers that didn't teach, much less have required book assignments. I certainly made up for it in college both with academic readings and reading based on inspo from my classes. Now firmly in my 40s, I'd love a way to inject suggested readings on thought provoking topics...and have an environment in which to discuss them. Book Club, anyone?? ❤️❤️❤️

It’s easier to say that we are bored because it doesn’t have a negative connotation. Sometimes we just need a break and to not feel bad for it.

One of the the most influential books I’ve read was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and - wow. It really helped me think about people in a different way… that no matter how are voice sounds or what we look like .. we’ve all gone through struggles and we should be nice to everyone because we’re all going through something.

So sad that some areas are banning this book in libraries and schools because of the scene at the beginning. I agree with you, @amberwiley3017, it's a book that stuck with me in so many good ways. Every HS'er should read it.

A couple of my favorite Phoenix spots:
    - Pizzeria Bianco and Bar Bianco (Heritage Square location): Bomb pizza! And the bar next door is super cute and chill while you wait for your table, or for an after dinner drink. They make great mocktails, as well! 💜
    - Little Miss BBQ: You have to get there early and stand in line, but it's so worth it!! The smoked pecan pie is a must! 🙌🏻

I get so excited when you post! To answer a couple of your questions, as an adult, I never feel bored, but I also think if you fill your time with hobbies, work, volunteering, etc. You kind of takes up any space for boredom! A book that I read during a difficult transition period for myself was Eat Pray Love. When she gets into what depression and anxiety feel like, it really hits home for me. She does a beautiful job writing about finding yourself, which I love and appreciate as someone who has had to do the same to find happiness and contentment.

I also never get bored as an adult, even if I have nothing to do, I can always find something to do, even if it's just going to gym, watching youtube, video games or going for a walk. As a kid it's so easy to get bored, especially back in our gen, there was no social media or even high speed broadband. My favourite life changing book was This is going to Hurt by Adam Kay, highly recommend for anyone who is involved in healthcare, be it as a patient or as a doctor/nurse/other Heathcare related job

    So many Phoenix/Scottsdale food recs:
    - Los Betos (32nd St & Greenway) for breakfast burritos or literally anything else
    - Toro @ Fairmont Scottsdale Princess for upscale dinner. Sushi is bomb, scallops are insane, specials are always changing but are solid. The property is beautiful.
    - Flower Child (Desert Ridge but several other locations too) for healthy but delicious lunch.
    - Pizzeria Bianco for trendy pizza
    - North Italia or EVO for tasty pasta
    - Edelweiss for German/Polish food
    - Tryst for brunch
    - Cortado Coffee Roastery for local coffee

Just finished reading "MAUS" the graphic novel and while its one of the hardest novels I've ever read because of the subject matter, I think it's so important to read and learn from history. One of the reasons I love fiction so much is getting to see the world through someone else's POV. Anyway, thanks for being one of the only youtubers I've stayed watching over the years!! Major vote for reading before bed. I've been a reader my entire life (first job was in a bookstore) and thankfully, my Mom took us kids to the library every week for us to get whatever books we wanted (it balanced out the "required" reading of school). I have and will always make time to read before bed. I may not pick up a book (turn on the kindle) any other time of the day, but the hard coded ritual in my brain of turning off the electronics/world, and firing up the kindle so it's just my brain and the author's words, transitions me to restful sleep. I may be so tired I only get through 2 pages, but most nights I find I read of a good 20-30 minutes before falling to sleep. It's one of those habits I'm proud of and always recommend to others.

As someone with severe social anxiety and major depression, and not very well managed unfortunately, I’m constantly bored. I always try to find things to help that won’t trigger the anxiety or depression, but that becomes really difficult. I end up playing a lot of games or watching a lot of videos and movies. But often, there comes a time where none of that and nothing is interesting anymore. I used to read so much a few years ago, and now I struggle focusing on it. Besides those mental struggles, money is also a huge factor. Obviously, I’d love to be able to afford to go out every weekend for drinks with friends or dates or a vacation, a fun local event, etc., but as an unemployed student with the mental struggles, that’s not an option at the moment. So I feel boredom is a lot more than just having the opportunity to do something you find fun. Everyone is different. And some people are more fortunate than others in several different ways and a lot of times that may be helpful for sure. But mental plays a huge role too.

It's a memoir in which a therapist is going to a therapist for some of her own issues but she talks about some past clients and there are some really though-provoking situations. One of those books where I actually cried reading some parts of it.

I’ve always loved to read. I taught myself pretty young and my mom would always tuck me in with a stack of books next to my bed so I could read until I got sleepy every night. One of the best books I’ve read that is so special to me is The Phantom Tollbooth. It’s not challenging-it’s technically a kids’ book, but the way it deals with (!) childhood boredom and a sense of wonder is just so singular and cool. I totally recommend it to anyone and everyone. As for adult books, I recommend House of Leaves. It must be a physical copy though. It absolutely would never translate to kindle or audio even if it’s available in these formats, which I doubt. There’s nothing else like it. It’s mysterious, creepy, confusing, sad, and the way it’s printed and put together looks like found notes. If you give it a chance it will stay with you for a long time.

A book that really had an impact is “The Introvert Advantage, How To Thrive in an Extrovert World” by Marti Olsen Laney. Before I read it, I didn’t feel “normal” about how I interacted with the works. Reading the book made me realize my behaviors, coping mechanisms, etc., were shared by others and was a true “aha” moment. It really gave me insight into myself and I re-read it every few years and recommend to all my introverted friends and colleagues.

Yes it sucks to have to do that, but sometimes it’s not worth the trouble to put something out you know doesn’t make you the most comfortable or you think is going to cause issues. I’m very outspoken and I’ve definitely had to learn this lol
