I do really love the sound of the M8 GTE, but because it has a side exhaust you can only hear it well when it passes you.
If the exhaust was at the back we could hear that Turbo V8 much better and longer.
the Z4 GT3 sounds way better tho
@Undefined Logic the 4l twin turbo v8 in race spec and in the M cars also use 180° headers (for more even exhaust pulses flowing through the turbo) which creates a sound more like a flatplane v8 while still being a crossplane. it's similar to an old ford gt40, altough not as good because there isn't space for a perfectly equal lenght bundle of snakes manifold.

the Turbos also make it a lot quieter. Have you ever heart these cars on a track? While the Z4 was the loudest car, you can barely hear the M8 or the M6 between the other cars.
The bmw m8 gte is the 2018 lengendary bmw in the bmw generation along with the legendary bmw m3 gtr is the king of 24h nurburgring back at 2005

Totalmente cierto, el Porsche 991.2 RSR de los años 2018 y 2019 tenían un sonido incomparable que se asemejaba a los fórmula1 de años atrás y ni hablar del Ferrari 458 gt2.

Although I do love the this V8 sound, nothing beats the N/A Corvette C7 or the old 6.2 AMG V8 GT3.

the amg gt3 does indeed retain the old 6.2L v8, the amg gt4's on other hand do use the 4.0 twin turbo v8 as it's closer to the road car

In real life the car sounded like shite. Just like the turbocharged V8 from Ferrari or the new Vantage. The only turbocharged GTE in that race that sounds cool is the Ford GT.
I prefer the N/A sound of the 911, the old Vantage, the Corvette.
I guess that's more and more a thing of the past, even DTM switched to 2.0 turbo-fourbangers.

The RSR 911.2 2018 is so loud god damn! Love it. Now the 2019 one has sides exhaust...RIP realflat 6 sound... Sounds more a like v6 biturbo from the Ford GT

The downshifts with the pops and crackels and the sound of the turbos is Just unique
And the m6 was louder
I got to see this thing at Watkins Glen last year just feet away coming into the final corner. The turbochargers were almost twice as loud as the engine. I would say the V8 sounds cool, but it doesn't really sound at all.

The sound is deep growl, too bad its just too deep & drowned by the glorious high pitch of 911 RSR. Conclusion: 911 RSR sound steal the show.
I'd say the vantage is deeper and louder.

how can this turbo V8 sound so different to the similar production engine as seen in the F10 M5 and M6?
Cause this is a new engine! This engine will used in the M5 F90, X5 M G05, X6 M G06 and the M8 G15.

The m8 is a squirrel squeaking away and the 991 is the cat shouting: IM COMMING TO GET YOU
It has quite a good sound, way better than the M6, the problem is it's as quiet as the road car, I hardly noticed it go past at Silverstone last year, even the Ferrari drowned it out.

As good as the RSR sounds, N/A cars are completely holding the GT class back. All the turbo cars are being tuned way down to keep this dead BOP regs in fair order for the underpowered N/A's. All the turbo cars can easily make 800hp for endurance racing.
Stupid regulations and restrictions. Release the chains from the beasts and let them really race
