Crunchy, Sweet & Sour: Popular Pickled Cabbage Recipe from Asia

  • We discovered this sweet, pickled cabbage salad in a food court in Singapore. It's a great side dish, for its tanginess easily cuts through the fattiness of heavy meals and cleans your palate.
    Not only can you serve this pickled cabbage with savory dishes, but also enjoy it by itself as a sweet & sour, crunchy snack!
    LIST OF INGREDIENTS
    - white cabbage [900 g | 2 lb]
    - 2 peeled carrots
    - salt [75 g | 1/4 cup]
    For the pickling solution:
    - water [500 ml | 2 cups]
    - sugar [100 g | 1/2 cup]
    - white vinegar (5% acidity) [250ml | 1 cup]
    - 1/2 tsp salt
    Serving: 3 jars of 500ml size

    The amount of sugar in our recipe gives the cabbage a slight sweetness, but does not dominate/eliminate the sourness from pickling the cabbage. I find it to be just right, but feel free to adjust the sugar level up or down according to your preference. 😋

      @@UnitedCuisines I got mine to try making Pesto and Toum but it hasn't left the cupboard. Apparently mortar & pestle pesto just tastes better, something about crushing vs slicing in a blender. I would love to see a vid on a comparison like your banana fritters one.
