This machinima shows the ideal application of the line of battle common to many European navies in the age of sail, and the timing accuracy available to the Royal Navy (thanks to flintlock shell-guns, which were developed during the War of the Austrian Succession and in use fleetwide since the War for American Independence).
B. C. Schmerker did you know that future Viscount Admiral Lord Nelson as a teenager served in an ill-fated expedition in Nicaragua during the war for American Independence and nearly died from fever. He first entered the royal navy when they were undergoing these changes. It is hard to imagine that in the 18th century the Royal Navy was in a state of war from 1755-1815 with brief "peaces" between the American War and the Napoleonic wars.
there are rumours he bribed a persian general during one of his first major battles... something about crossing a river? i dont know... anyway i think its the case of victors writing the history books. therefore the tactics dont really matter
The saxons invaded Britain around 500AD (some from Jutland in present day Denmark). Later, around 780 AD, danish vikings invaded England. The first king of England a one kingdom around 1000 AD was the danish king Canute (Knud). Later in 1066, England was invaded by the Normans. Normandy was founded by danish and nowegian vikings. As a consequence, the danish and the british are very connected genetticaly.
I most humbly agree with you Xtheatron , even in a bad storm with fog, the English Capt. continued his search ,found the Danish and fleet and destroyed it, he is to be commended for his determination and perseverance, a true tactician ,with great seamen ship , to be Admired ,Honored, most of all, studied for his tactics of sea warfare that of which was both a gift, and a terror, bizaar ,bizaar, bizaar, a Great English Sea warefare capt ,to be sure, I bet during his rain as a Capt of the English fleet, he was feared by many other countries that travelled the sea,s for there own plunder and riches ,knowing he was out there ,and could pop up and destroy their entire fleet, by his command, and took whatever spoils he felt like removing from any sea going vessel, and do it not for himself but for his country, a nightmare to some,a terror to others , to King and country, W.H.W. 1-1-20
just saying guys, no matter how they won, they still won and great Britain ended up with pretty much the largest empire ever, definitely bigger than anybody elses of the period, as well Britain has had the best naval forces, do I really need to remind you of what happened with the Spanish armada, a fleet of 250 English ships beat it
iknow, but its not hounorable, if he won in a fair battle thats hounorable... but i understand that TACTICS (not tatics) are important if you are grately outgunned... but still you cant say its hounorable...
those are called tatics, you think it is not fair or honourable, but is it honourable of the psanish to make the guerilla, small groups only to harass? no, it is all about tatics, if you are weak in one point you must compensate in another, that is strategy, and someone that can do this well is a good strategist.
@ZengxDoWx alexander the great would not be famous if he bribed enemy leaders, assasinated enemies and used dirty tricks to win, he fought fair and square, but it all depends on the person...
It takes a true monster to do all of that.
maybe not honourable, but you won't sacrifice lifes in a war because of honour, you will use strategy.
