I designed a string farm inspired from this series that was based off of breeding tamed cats. Besides getting a renewable supply of fish to breed them, there are a couple of difficulties that come with this method. 1) you can only breed tamed cats (since giving fish to a non tamed cat will make it tamed before it cant mate), so all of the kittens that are born are also tamed by default. This can make it extremely difficult to create the farm since, unless the cat is in a boat or minecart, it will teleport to the player. The solution for this was to encompass the area that the player AFK's at in blocks that the cat cannot teleport to. The easiest block to work with for this was walls. However, this brings a new issue, which is that the player can't actually move in a mine cart to the different cat pairs to bread them becasue the kittens can teleport onto the rails. Instead, its necessary to bring the cats to the player and I did this by bringing them by in a mine cart floating in a water stream to be bred, where they drop off and wait in a waiting area until they can be bread again. 2) as with most farms, such as the panda farm in this series, the issue of separating the adult cats who drop string from the kittens who don't can be challenging. The only way I could determine to suffocate the adult and not the kitten would be by placing both on a 6-layer snow block and then placing a block above, but this made item collection very difficult. The easier method that I found was that if bot a kitten and adult cat are underneath a top half slab (inside that block), then the slab is waterlogged, the adult cat will float to the top of the slab and the kitten wont. So, by holding the kittens in a chamber with top half slabs and periodically flushing it with dispensers under the slab, the adult cats can be separated and flushed away for their string. This farm works, but I'm not sure how applicable it would be to survival without serious modifications. The fish supply issue is difficult since you cant have any blocks near the player (possibly drop the fish from above?) unless it is covred by a fence or wall. In addition, the farm would need a 20 min "cooldown" period where the breeding would stop, but the kittens locked in the sorting chamber are allowed to grow up and be flushed, otherwise they will teleport to the player as soon as he/she leaves the AFK spot. But yeah that was just my working with cat farms lol
Mango: "there are 3 ways to get sting from cats" Me: **Worries** Mango: "don't worry we are going to try all of them" Me: that wasn't what I was worried about
The other way to flood a square area could be first building two flying machines which make single rows of water blocks starting from a corner of perimeter in both cardinal directions (or just placing and breaking 500 ice blocks twice), and then build a 3-directional flying machine that just carries some blocks underneath those water sources, starting from same corner.
I suppose every machine in this challenge will have an unspoken "use as few slime blocks as possible" rule. Really makes everything a lot more impressive!
If you play on peaceful the monsters will stay away, But then a little later ilmango will become the monster that survives even through the day. - the cats and pandas.

I can't describe how much I'm enjoying this series. At first, the concept seems so absurd but being a redstone engineer genious, you have to figure out unprecedented ways to go around the limitations.
It was super fascinating watching you design and test a multi-directional water source flying machine! At first I kept wondering if it was needed after watching a Hermitcrafter solve a similar issue with some kelp and two intersecting strips of blocks, but after realizing the scale you're aiming for I couldn't help but be impressed by this particular solution! Yet another great vid in this remarkable challenge.
I was wandering if it wasnt be easier to first make "L" shape of water sources along 500block both ways and then use flying machine that would be floor for water to spread at and water above that would have a place to make water sources (i mean some sort of moveable platform that would be one block below water sources)
That sounds like a great idea, sadly too late tho after he designed his way... ah well, I guess if you ever do a peaceful challenge you could try it that way!
With no enemies to conquer ilmango and his merry crew take their frustrations out on the land itself. There was sand and pebbles everywhere. Absolute carnage!

Hey ilmango! I am wondering if you are still planning on making the smaller dark oak tree farm? On your video of the 420k special one you said that you would make a smaller one but you still haven't. If you have decided not to that is fine, but it would be nice to know if it is still coming.
I have a passive mob farm in my SSP world. I had a lot of issues with mobs wandering in so I put up a perimeter fence. I even had a fox swim across an ocean over the course of a month or so. Everytime I went to my spawn chunks I'd see him slowly bobbing his way across. The other issue I had (which doesn't apply to this world) is rabbits spawning on sand in any biome which spawns rabbits.
seems like you could also just place dirt and ice in an L-shape around the perimeter, then have a much simpler flying machine form a moving platform for the water to spread over. Probably could make it use a lot less slime that way.

Just curious, about putting in a honeyblock for the machine, would it work if you replaced the glass block under the water with a honey block? then you could even have a small dangling operator's seat.
You don't actually need to dig out the spawn chunks, only the area around the farm. Gnembon showed that you can simply put cages with chickens just outside the spawn chunks on all corners and then kill all animals in the spawn chunks itself. As the chickens outside the spawn chunks are rendered when the player is at spawn and mobs can only spawn with a player nearby, no new mobs will spawn in the spawn chunks, due to the mob cap being filled up by the chickens.
How do you make the blocks not have breaking particles? I have a low end pc that lags when I break a ton of blocks and it would be really useful if I knew how to do that too!
