You two have yourselves a real nice mill. I have used a tarp to cut on for years...makes it easy to drag the saw dust to the pile and keep it clean around the mill. My first log was a red oak and at 10x10 I shut the mill down and smiled.....I still have that 10x10 in my shop 20 years later. Welcome to the club...you two are going to love that mill.
Thanks...we are just getting started and it's a learning process for sure. We love it and cut as often as we can. Its mostly been white and red oak so far but we are wanting to get more Walnut. We don't have much Walnut on our property so we are trying to make connections to have access. Appreciate the comment and any advice for us beginners is welcome. Thanks!!!
Congratulations on the new Lt50 widehead. I ordered an Lt40 widehead in January and won’t be seeing it til late May or early June, 2023. It’s all good though because anything worth having, is worth waiting for.
Very Cool...it took us about 9-10 Months to get our Wood-Mizer. They said it would be about a year but it came in a little early. Where are you getting your mill from? Have a good one!!!
Everything to do with sawing lumber is extremly satisfying as you will soon find out!! even when you hit a stone or a nail, sawing seems to sooth the soul, Enjoy
without knowing exactly how the feed is driven, this is just a guess - it appears to be hydraulically controlled - the lever is pressed and the speed ramps up dramatically in either direction - if so, there will be either a flow control valve inline to the hydraulic motor that can be throttled - or, if a valve was never put in by wood-mizer, one can be added - probably best by wood-mizer technicians your best move is to contact wood-mizer and tell them what you want the machine to do, or not do good luck my background, industrial maintenance technician - i even worked for a wood-mizer sawmill in kentucky for a couple months in 2002 - but never saw this issue from what i've seen in your videos, this should be resolvable

100% agree. We built a rack there to store firewood and put the leftover metal from our pole building on top to keep it off the ground. We have since taken that down. Have a good one!!!
This is something we have been working on. Contacted Wood-Mizer and we believe we have it fixed. New video coming out soon discussing this issue and how we fixed it. Thanks!!!
I ran an LT40 hydraulic for 25 years. Guess what? I never did use a sawdust scraper. No money in looking at the boards. You sure have a nice saw. The return speed will damn near run you over.
The return speed is something that I underestimated. I learned quickly to have a clear path behind you because it will return faster that I can personally walk backwards. Thanks for the comment and have a good day!!!
@@WrightCustomTimberandArms I originally ordered an LT35 because it was all I could afford. But when WM called and told me that an LT40 order was cancelled and would I want it instead of the LT35 I jumped at it. It was the best decision I've made in many years. Short story long, I love it. Dave
We had wanted a wood-mizer for many years and had ben saving up for one. We finally ordered one and it took about a year to come in. So far we are very happy with it. Would have been nice to have the LT70 or maybe an upgraded diesel motor for the LT50 but we were at our max budget. Glad to here there are others who are happy with their purchase decision.
We hope to get something built for it to avoid the set up and tear down. We still need to be able to get it out because we cut on-site for customers. Thanks!!!
I put the tarp down to collect all the sawdust so it does not get trapped in my gravel. I actually decided to concrete the area in front of my garage so now the tarp is no longer needed. We can just sweep up all the sawdust to dispose of when we are done cutting for the day. Hope you are well.
Please don’t become a “water boy”! If a customer wants to see how pretty the grain is, let him pour the water on! Start out slow! It takes time to become a proficient sawyer! Have fun and enjoy!
We were basically playing around. I have cut about 4000bf so far and that's been the only "water bath" we have done. Most of what we have cut has been "practice" so that when I am cutting for customers I will be more proficient. Hope you are well.
You have no idea what you have that whiteoak is SAF #1 CLEAR THATS money in the bank not the kind of trees to be learning on good luck to you with logs like that one your future is big & bright
Thanks…we ended up cutting 1200 bf of it over a couple days. We have a kiln coming this week and will be putting about 2000 bf in to dry hopefully by this coming weekend. We have several projects planned with this white oak. Appreciate the comment…hope you are well.
@@WrightCustomTimberandArms well if it were me I would look hard into an industrial planer and a wide drum sander . Go full bore on finished wood I mean think about it what sits the common mill guy apart is how far he takes his product and that is where the real money is in milling

I had wanted to show the setup of the machine. Those were the things I was most interested in before purchasing a Wood-Mizer which I felt most channels didn't show. I will focus on more cutting videos in the future.
