#XenobladeChronicles #TimeToFight #Reaction
The second song is for an epilogue story they added in the definitive edition. It's a completely different song but they gave it the same name for some reason.
Its very much a basic, generic battle theme name, like a lot of FF battle tracks; "Battle1", "Battle2", at least that's how I see it.
Between Time To Fight and You Will Know Our Names, Xenoblade games seem to like reusing song titles.
@@jelyse14 Not really generic, considering it evolves a lot during the franchise. (If you meant generic because it's used in every normal battle then yes, but it's probably one of the best OSTs in gaming)
@@kaz7886 I think he meant a "general name" not a generic name.
Yeah, probably.@@lockekappa500
Rule of thumb for Xenoblade DLC story content:
1) Their main battle themes will be bonafide jam sessions.
2) The further along the series you go positively correlates with the battle theme's jazz content.
the flute thing is really a Xenoblade 3 thing lol
Seems safe to assume Xenoblade 3 was being planned during FC's development. The flutes here were probably serving as more of a teaser of what's to come down the line.
You’re actually kinda correct about that. They wanted to test out the flute in the music and FC was being created at the time so they incorporated the flute into the soundtrack as to give a taste for what was to come.
It's funny you did these together expecting them to be the original and remix/remaster, when the FC Time to Fight is wholly original AND has a remix called Brilliant Wings.
Original Time to Fight is composed by Yoko Shimomura, Time to Fight (Bionis' Shoulder) is composed by Kenji Hiramatsu
No wonder it was giving me Kingdom Hearts vibes...
Are they both from the same game?
@@NuiYabuko Oh ok, cuz i really prefer the first one. thx :)
@@DiogoLZ the 2nd one is the epilogue
@@NuiYabuko well it might be indipendent in the sense you don't need to finish XC1 to play Future Connected, but you damn well should lel. It's the epilogue for a reason
The jazzy combat themes for Xenoblade didn’t actually start until the prequel story DLC for XC2. Then they did it for the new epilogue section for XC1 as well since people loved it.
@@NuiYabuko Well, it is an assumption but it was very welk received on the internet, no doubt the positive reception had an influence. As for more disco than jazz... main point is that it music swings and makes you want to dance (and if not there is something wrong with you).
It's probably more like "they found their style/vibe", rather than because people liked but, of course people would like it 😂
@@andr0zzsenpai It may also be that Future Connected used flutes as a Prelude to their greater focus in 3; this is likely why 2's Uraya (the Titan on 3's title screen) is associated with flutes.
@@NuiYabuko According to the Wikapedia page, (interview is reference 11), 3's title screen was decided on before they started working on 2.
I realize that this doesn't directly mention flutes, but I said it was "likely" why Uraya specifically uses flutes.
If you wish to do another combo from this series, might I suggest Zanza the Divine and Alpha, The Divine Beginning & End
Yesss
Yes pls
Yesyesyesyesyes
oh yes please i know jesse will blown away by both OST
go request it then
Funny enough both the first and second themes you did do have different versions in both DE and Xenoblade 3 for the first 1 it's basically a 1to1 remix and the FC version has a more jazzy version called Brilliant Wings which makes me go through a seizure of euphoria 😂
The BEST part about Time to Fight Future Connected version is that it RETURNS In XB3 with a Sexy, sexy, Saxophone.
The first one sounds so much like its from kingdom hearts and the second feels like a xenoblade chronicles 2 song, kind of like roaming the waste both are great!
I always had the impression that Yoko was prepping for Radiant Historia.
Haven’t tuned in for a bit, good for see you!
The second song you listened to here (as some in the comments already pointed out) is rearranged with even stronger elements of jazz in Xenoblade 3, with the name Brilliant Wings. It’s a special theme that you only hear when having a certain person in your party. The sax player went crazy on that one
kinda wish this video had Brilliant Wings as well, the other version of Time to Fight (Bionis shoulder)
Agreed wanted that sax!
Yeah that’s what I was hoping to see here too 🥲 it’s definitely worth it for him to listen to on its own though
The first song does give off Radiant Historia vibes
Now that you mention it, it actually does. Particularly one of its own battle theme.
Wow I can totally hear it now , good catch
Unsurprising considering both were composed by Yoko Shimomura. She has a very distinctive style that pops up across a lot of her work.
That's what I was thinking too, reminds me of "An Earnest Desire of Grey"!!!
It always did to me :)
I highly highly recommend you listen to "Formidable Enemy" from Xenoblade 3 it has one of the best bass lines I've ever heard
For real, that part when the drums go crazy and it transitions to a sick bass break is just chef's kiss
First song is by yoko Shimomura, who only composed for Xenoblade 1. 2nd is by Kenji Hiramatsu, who's more of a core composer for Xenoblade.
You're right about them both being the standard battle themes.
As for the flutes, they're actually only relevant to Xenoblade 3. There are characters who play the flute to send off their fallen comrades. That game's whole soundtrack is centralized around the flute.
But for this song it's just another instrument
The flute being in the song was supposed to signify the *Future* being *Connected* and that definitely ended up being the case
I love how Yoko's work has such a distinct sound to it, doesn't matter if it is Parasite Eve, Xenoblade or FF15... Those drums and string instrument are going to be in the spotlight ALWAYS, and I CAN NOT get enough of it, love her work.
You might want to add Future Connected to your title because the second song is a completely different song from the expansion and some people might think you only reacted to the first song.
Anyways great stuff. Always love to see your reactions to new Xenoblade songs.
the flutes feature a lot in xenoblade 3 they even had specific flutes made for the soundtrack iirc and 2 main characters play them
For a good second i completely forgot that the first XC1 battle theme was called that so i got confused when you played that track first.
The first one you listened to was from the wii. The Definitive edition of Time to Fight is actually just the same song but more modern sounding. The second song you listened to was a different song with a slightly different name, Time to Fight (Bionis Shoulder), which is used for the epilogue story added in Definitive edition. The remaster of the original Time to Fight in Definitive edition IMO is a huge improvement over the original. Although there are some songs I think that were better in the original soundtrack such as You Will Know Our Names
Aw rip, I was lowkey hoping you'd cover the remastered version of Time to Fight (the remaster of the first battle theme)
It's just really interesting to me how it changes from this suspenseful, almost dark melody to this REALLY dramatic piece with organs and choir in the background, with violins still being at the front.
I love both versions for different reasons, to the point where it's almost comparing apples to oranges, despite it being a remaster.
So these time to fights are actually for separate things and are not correlated in anything except purpose (common battle theme) and name, I really like the jazzy one though. Listen to XC3’s Brilliant Wings and you might now hear something familiar 😉
I loved this battle theme in Xenoblade 1, and I was kind of gutted when it's not the battle theme anymore. This is a good example of where Yoko Shimomura shines. The beat, for one; she is great at upbeat battle themes like this and what she does best is creating amazing uplifting melodies alongside it. The violin sounds amazing in this theme, and the swells later on are beautiful. This song and the structure of it reminds me of her work in Legend of Mana; the song Traveller's Road.
The Bionis Shoulder theme only plays for the epilogue story btw. Unless you’re just referencing when the battle theme changes to Mechanical Rhythm in the main game then nvm lol
@@rhettmitchell Yeah, that's what I meant, haha. And as the other person mentioned, I know it does come back on Bionis which is great, I guess for a while I just missed hearing it
Have you played all the numbered xenoblade games?
Great track for a great series
I'm replaying through the entirety of Xenoblade right now and I think you'd like that
1 and 3 are best imo but 2 is also great
I would love to see your reactions playing it but who knows
Anyway I'm looking forward to more Xeno reactions! This has been an amazing journey
I’m patiently waiting for my order of the Trinity Box to ship from Japan with every Song from All 3 numbered games and their additional content, preordered it but it doesn’t release until July 29th
You missed Brillant Wings, which is a remixed version of the second one in Xenoblade 3
Someone recommend him New Battle!!! from Future Redeemed
God i love Yoko Shimomura's music so goddamn much
Now imagine, the first one gets replaced with Mechanical Rhythm once you start fighting enemies on that giant robot in the background.
The second one is from the expansion after the intense narrative of the base game so thats why it sounds much more cheery.
You owe us a reaction to the remix in XC3 ;)
To me, Time to Fight is a subtle reference to "Radiant Historia", another game Yoko Shimomura worked on. The notes, the tone, the uplift, the beat and the instrumentation are extremely similar if not the same.
Funny enough the flutes are only important in Xenoblade 3, but Future Connected was an epilogue to 1 that was meant to be allude to the future of the series! (Which hey it kinda sorta did that) It released I think 10 years after the original and 2 years before XC3. Also as many have said, the two songs are completely different, but are used in the same way (generic battle theme). However! In 3 they included a very jazzy remix of Time to Fight Bionis Shoulder called Brilliant Wings (which I LOST MY MIND when it started playing)
The vocals in the second version remind me a bit of Fire on High by ELO. Come to think of it the whole song kinda has that sort of vibe.
Just so Xeno its less of a big anomaly in your head, its really simple-
-Xenogears was on the PS1. When the creators were still in Squaresoft.
-Xenosaga 1, 2, & 3 were on the PS2. (Pied Piper, a prequel story for one of the characters was on mobile devices; now unavailable to play at all) Xenosaga was a "spiritual successor" of Xenogears now that they left Squaresoft, created their company Monolith Soft, and were owned by Bandai Namco.
-Xenoblade 1 was on the Wii (and later the New Nintendo 3DS). (the first song you heard here was from base-game xenoblade1) It got remastered as the Definitive Edition for the Switch a decade later with a new epilogue story called Future Connected (the second song you heard here was from this expansion)
It was never intended to be another "Xeno" game, but has been retconned some since Xenoblade 2 and made even more "Xeno" after the fact. Was given the name "Xenoblade" as an homage to Xenogears and Xenosaga. This was the first game in the series after MonolithSoft were bought by Nintendo.
-Xenoblade X was on the WiiU. Its story is disconnected from the trilogy and is completely standalone.
-Xenoblade 2 was on the Switch. It got a DLC expansion prequel called Torna: The Golden Country.
-Xenoblade 3 was on the Switch. It got a DLC expansion prequel story as well called Future Redeemed.
All Xeno games take heavy "inspiration" from Xenogears' overarching 15000-year-long story.
Also, since you enjoyed it so much and are familliar with the second battle theme now Jessie, very, VERY curious what you think between 'Time to Fight' from Future Connected specifically to 'Brilliant Wings' from Xenoblade 3. Jams are to be had.
Yeah me too, when it was announced, I thought the dlc would come out a few days before it, and then a direct came out a week after it 😅
@@NuiYabuko yup, don't know what happened 😅
"it could be anyone"
he's definitely not familiar with Yoko's work because its very much HER SOUND haha
And yeah, just because they have the same name- that has no bearing on whether the tracks are similar or not. I'd never hear the FC one and think "is this another version of Time to Fight by Yoko Shimomura??" because they sound so incredibly different, they're two completely different tracks.
18:12 no, there is no melody of the original battle theme in the FC battle theme. That's totally just the similar name affecting how you're perceiving them both.
I prefer the latter because it gives me more emotion. It sounds more positive and gives the impression of fighting for good with the desire to win.
One day I'll play this game for myself, switch barrier to entry too damn high, 50-60 bucks for all 3 main games not counting the DLC, Torna still sells for 30.
Is this just the future connected version or also brilliant wings, the xc3 remix
Just FC
Doing the xenosaga requests dirty
Well Flutes ARE a big deal in Xenoblade, but Xenoblade 3 Only (basically a funeral ceremony thing). However, flutes in this particular OST may be relevant, even though it's from xenoblade 1, because it's from a story extension from the remaster that came 2 years between Xenoblade 3. So yeah a flute being present may be relevant, as a tease for XC3 (even though I don't trhink it's a Shinobue)
Please do Critical Clash I and Critical Clash II from Octopath Traveler II 🤩
Woww Actually, this is the first time I listen the original time to fight theme. I just listened the Definitive Edition version of the OST. Honestly, I still prefer de Definitive Edition theme, sounds cleaner, but that might be because I played the game with the new version
The original Time to Fight is actually one of my least favorite songs in the series, not because it's bad, but because it's outclassed by almost every other battle music. Meanwhile, Time to Fight for Future Connected is one of my favorite battle tracks in the series, only made better with Xenoblade 3's remix of it.
After knowing Yoko Shimomura's songs since KH as a kid I cant help but always feel like... her music can often be very catchy, but in the end a lot of her work is very same-y. Like XB1's Time to Fight sounds like something you could put in KH and it'd fit right in. Her sound doesnt vary all that much when working on different projects and it all blends together for me. Honestly, her music is my least favorite tracks in all of Xenoblade.
That's her musical style, though. Which evolved a lot over time from her work on Street Fighter, Live A Live, and Super Mario RPG. She is a queen and one of the best composers in video game music.
