  • In this video I show you how to change the manual transmission fluid on 2015 Honda Fit. This process should also apply to 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Fits.
Tools needed: Means of lifting the vehicle safely. Drain pan, Phillips screw driver, flat head screw driver, 3/8s ratchet, 17mm socket or wrench, new transmission fluid, and I strongly recommend a fluid transfer pump. The one I'm using in this video can be picked up at Autozone for $10.99, well worth it!

What's the approximate mileage when it's recommended to change the manual transmission fluid. It doesn't seem to be listed in the owner's manual and certainly not in the maintenance interval lights (A1, B1, etc.). Some say it's "life time" but I have a hard time believing that. If you feel like you occasionally have a difficult time shifting into 2nd gear (even with the clutch pedal fully engaged) is it a bad synchro ring, or worn out clutch or dirty transmission fluid that needs to be changed?

That's a tough one. I'm not a honda technician so I can't say for sure. I like to change those fluids around 100k if not sooner, it's not very expensive or difficult to do so I feel like it's cheap insurance. In your case I would definitely change the fluid and see if that helps. If it doesn't then you probably have something going wrong in the transmission and should get that checked out by a pro.

If you care about your car, do it every 15k. If you don't, you can just do the suggested 30k for all fluids except engine oil.

I just signed up for my garage Honda and it states it’s every 30k but read folks doing it ever 50k. I’m watching because I had no clue the car had codes to tell you what needs changing. I’m at 84k and going to get it done ASAP

Anyone notice that their transmission was overfilled from the factory? I opened the fill plug first and like a whole quart came out!
