    So I have made many more baskets since making this video - mostly as gifts - some bigger and some smaller, so stay tuned for a video showing how I made them! I am hoping to start selling a few things on Etsy soon too! Thank you everyone for all your support :-)

    Terrific basket that is all the more special because you made it with your own hands (and with the help of your handy husband). Wonderful keepsakes like these will make your new home all the more special.

    You can harvest birch bark off a living tree without hurting it :)

    • @CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
      @CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid  3 года назад

      That’s depends on how it is done. Real harm can be done if it isn’t done correctly. We have plenty of downed trees so there’s no need for us to take from a healthy living tree.

  • @alandutton4505

    Have you tried using a rotary cutter instead of a utility knife for trimming and shaping birch bark? Thoughts on one versus the other?

    Good video thanks for sharing...but that's not yucky stuff. That's premium better than any fertile soil you can buy. Next time put it in your garden or back to forest floor. Stay awesome.

    if you do sew make the stitches one long and one short so that the birch does not crack. If The stitches on one line it weakens the birch. Do not sew in the lines on the birch it is a weak part of the biircch.

    If I'll ever need to make a recipient from birch bark, it will be in a situation when I will not have all these tools on hand.
    Congratulations for peeling off dead logs, unlike most imbeciles out there, who kill a live tree just to make a RUclips video.
