I only intended to comment if there were lots of Froch support but I underestimated the boxing acumen of the commenters. I enjoyed watching Froch's fights but Joe was in a different class. I have watched top level fights for over 60 years. I have no doubt in saying that Calzaghe was the best British fighter I have seen.
Joe would have walked this fight in my opinion. I loved watching a Froch and he was a brilliant exciting fighter but he was just taylor made for Calzaghes style. When you look at how groves in the first fight, and jermaine taylor were able to get at Froch for the first 6 rounds of their fights with Froch u can just see that Calzaghe, who was faster than both groves and Taylor would have been able to get at Froch so easily. But the key thing for me is that where Groves and Taylor did not have the stamina to do it for 12 round Joe did. I even think it could have looked a bit like the lacey fight! And that's not be underestimating Froch, it's just I really think he was Taylor made for Joe. And when this ever comes up as a debate literally 95% of boxing fans and ex pros pick Joe. It baffles me really to why we are still having this debate lol.
I think Froch and Calzaghe had a few strengths in common - both were tough, had excellent stamina, and iron wills. Froch was a cleverer boxer than he often got credit for. However, I can’t see Froch having an answer to Calzaghe’s speed and workrate. Froch was the bigger puncher, but I doubt he could have knocked Calzaghe out, and I think Calzaghe would have been too smart and too relentless to succumb to Froch’s pressure.
Joes record of quality opponents is almost non existent Froch would have walked straight through him and if i remember correctly it was Joe that backed out the fight despite Froch also being a world champion at the same time and this without how boring to watch was Joe tee gods he would have bored a glass eye to sleep would Joe

Joe Calzaghe every time. His dad Enzo RIP italian heritage obviously ✌ to Joe Calzaghe always. He beat Hopkins!. People always put Calzaghe down. One of the best boxer's in my lifetime!.
You're asking the question if both were in their prime. Calzaghe all day long. I was at the Calzaghe v Kessler fight in Cardiff, Calzaghe in the early parts didn't have it all his own way, was only from really round 5/6 onwards where he adapted. Something Froch struggled to do, was adapt. Froch had a big heart, ill give him that and a good chin. But, when you're facing someone like Joe, with blistering hand speed and adaptability, and you also consider how low Froch left his hands, then Calzaghe beats him clearly, UD minimum. Calzaghe was in a different league to Froch. As for Carl dropping Calzaghe, absolutely no chance of that happening. Carl didn't possess the skills to do that. That would of only happened if it was dragged into a war, I don't believe Joe would of allowed that to happen. He simply would of just schooled Froch. Let's not forget that Calzaghe also had a tremendous chin too. When he has been put down, he's never really been hurt, just silly shots to both Jones JR ( Was also at that fight), Hopkins and Mitchell. Only one winner here and it aint Froch!
Will add that Joe Calzaghe, was not ever seriously hurt even when he was dropped in his fights. The worse trouble he was in was when dropped by Byron Mitchell and Joe Calzaghe rose to KO Mitchell soon after.Whereas when George Groves dropped Carl Froch early in their first fight Carl was clearly hurt and rose on unsteady legs, if George Groves had aggressively gone after him, at that point he would have had a decent chance to have won by KO. I would say Joe Calzaghe actually has the better chin out of him and Carl Froch.
Calzaghe only hit the deck, and very briefly to very skillful boxers. Froch has no where near enough skill and ability to hit Joe flush. It would of been a very easy nights work for Joe. And it wouldn’t of been a great fight, as that relies Froch being very competitive in the fight, which he just didn’t have the skills for. Perfect example, Froch/Ward.

No way anybody can score for hopkins in the Calzague fight and that was a bad night for joe and he stlll got the decision bernard was lucky to get a split decision
Reid was also on steroids most of his career. To give him that extra strength.
Really? Did he ever fail a test? If there’s no proof of this and it’s unsubstantiated rumour then it’s very unfair on Reid who was a tough, solid performer
Joes engine far to good and speed but I think it would be a good fight
Agree James. That's how I see it.
Calzague would win
Joes too great of a fighter than them
Calzaghe…all…day…long
Are you insane? Speed and stamina all in one fighter calzaghe. Think twice
Have you watched the video? I say Calzaghe and why.
only joe had a o
joe every time...............
Not even close Froch wouldn’t of won a round against Joe !!!!
Froch would...Calslappy was overrated.
Frock would have knocked him spark out
Carl would have been stopped by Joe and that's coming from a English man.
@Stanley Blues he won every round by a country mile though
@Stanley Blues he also had 32 stoppages and 46 wins
@Stanley Blues fair enough
Most of the KOs were early in his career, against pub doormen and mall guards.
