  • It started in 1925 and by 1959 the chariot race was to be the focal point in 'Ben Hur', coordinated and directed by YAKIMA CANUTT with his son JOE CANNUTT doubling star Charlton Heston.
57yrs later another film version is made and called a 'reinvention' not a 'remake'.
Anyway lets compare and contrast shall we. Enjoy

The original photography on the first movie is extraordinary. So exciting.

The cinematography of the original silent version is extraordinary for it's time period.

The 1959 Ben Hur should have a video all of its own…Great action in the sea battle

A couple of names that jump out to me were Frank Mcgrath, Charlie Wooster in Wagon Train, Tom (Captain Marvel )Tyler and the brilliant Dave Sharpe. Dave Sharpe was a brilliant gymnast ahead of his time as a stuntman. Think his stunt reel is still on RUclips.

_Shogun's Shadow_ 1989 has a lot of horse stunts where it would be extremely surprising if the horses survived.

The 2016, remake was stacked with CGI and shouldn't even be compared to the previous 2 versions.

The art direction on the 1925 version is superior to the rather garish interiors of the 1959 remake, I have compared both on my projector screen.
William Wyler was an assistant on the 1925 version and directed the 1959 version.

Strange, you got the driver for the first film but not the second...
