The Hill of Love and Distance
When I was a young man in the 19th century, love was not something I was allowed to experience. Coming from a strict, conservative, religious family, having a girlfriend was out of the question. My life was regimented and disciplined: school demanded my mind, my father’s bakery demanded my strength, and the church demanded my soul. Carrying heavy sacks of flour after a long day of studying was exhausting, and yet, my evenings were spent sitting through church classes. Love was never mentioned in our home, and the idea of marrying for it? Unthinkable.
But... yes, there is a "but."
Her name was Elizabeth. She was the kind of girl who looked as though she had stepped out of a dream. Her elegant dresses seemed to dance with every breeze, and her hair, though styled in a manner both simple and neat, framed her face like art. Her porcelain skin glowed, soft and radiant, no matter the weather.
Every morning, I had to walk over a hill on my way to school. And there she was-every time-walking the opposite way. I was going up, she was coming down. And just before our paths crossed, something strange would happen: my mind would command me to keep walking, but my body disobeyed. I froze. And so did she. For a fleeting moment, we stood there, as if time had stopped for us. Neither of us spoke, neither of us moved. We just looked at each other, almost shocked that anyone could see so deeply into us.
Then, as quickly as it happened, we would both continue on our way, our paths crossing in silence.
This became our daily ritual, and in my mind, I began to call that place “The Hill of Love and Distance.” Day after day, she grew even lovelier, her dresses reflecting the colors of the sky, the sun, or the flowers. And every day, we stopped and stared, locked in some unspoken connection, as though our hearts were speaking in a language our mouths weren’t allowed to use.
But one day, she wasn’t there.
At first, I thought it was a fluke. Perhaps I had come too early or too late. The next day, I adjusted my timing, even if it meant risking being late for school. Still, she was gone. The days turned into weeks, and with each empty crossing of the hill, my heart broke a little more. Had she moved away? Or worse... had she found someone else to marry?
I replayed all the missed chances in my mind, all the times I could have smiled or whispered a simple “hello.” Maybe I was waiting for her to give me a sign-a smile, a glance, something to push me past my fear. But now, I live in the world of “what could have been.”
Should I have defied my parents’ strict rules? Should I have risked it all for a chance to turn “The Hill of Love and Distance” into simply “The Hill of Love”?
This playlist is for anyone who loves, yet hesitates to make a move, held back by circumstances no one else can see. Let this be your sign.
Enjoy.
xoxo,
DearVictorAndVictoria
I will definitely consider writing a song inspired by the "little novel style story" and the painting. You've inspired so many.
I feel a sleep with this and has the most intense dream 😂❤
omg what?! the same thing just happend to me too. to my own video, then i opened the comment section and saw this comment 😂🙏🏻
Love is something I really want to experience. I always pray that God will grant me someone who loves me and whom I love, no matter the circumstances. I want our love to be eternal until death, but I do not believe that this person exists in reality..... Does such a person exist?
Absolutely. Through God, all things are possible ❤ If your soulmate is Christ-filled, there's no limit to the blessings God can bestow upon the relationship
This is a beautiful sentiment…have faith dear stranger.

Thinks for your words dear cute🤍
VERSE 1:
Chrysanthemums and honeybees, a meadow like Monet
I walked to school alone and felt the sun upon my face
Cicadas sang their anthem and the willow softly swayed
But then I reached that hill that filled me up with bliss and shame
PRE-CHORUS
I see her everyday
At this time and in this place
We pass each other silently
Our love is laced with pain
CHORUS:
It was the hill of love and distance
We never said one word
I never even knew her name
I know that sounds absurd
At my anxiety's insistance
I watched my shoes and frowned
She touched her hair and blushed
As I went up and she went down
VERSE 2:
I’d like to thank the Lord, He put this beauty on this grade
She looks at the horizon and I look the other way
The silence is in spite of all the things we want to say
But time and time again we take a glance and walk away
PRE-CHORUS:
I see her everyday
At this time and in this place
We walk past each other silently
Our love is laced with pain
CHORUS:
It was the hill of love and distance
We never said one word
I never even knew her name
I know it sounds absurd
At my anxiety's insistance
I looked away and frowned
She touched her hair and blushed
As I went up and she went down
BRIDGE:
The snow was one foot high
She slipped upon the ice
I caught her so she wouldn’t fall
She looked into my eyes
If she’s not in my life
As my lover, as my wife
My life would feel so empty
So the word I said was “Hi”
MODIFIED CHORUS:
It was the hill of love and distance
The flames of true love burned
I hope and pray we’ll seize the day
I hate when we diverge
ENDING:
But it started with a word
What is the name of the painting?
Too much ads inbetween is really annoying. I'm loosing interest to listen to your videos at all. Never experienced such irritation 😠. Unsubscribing right away.
