I met Bing Crosby's Grandson and He Sings Like THIS

  • While asking random people to sing in California, I met Phil Crosby Jr. When he first noticed what I was going, there were already a few people in line waiting to sing. Meanwhile, he looked through my song list and saw that I could play some of Sinatra's music. This made Phil quite happy because Phil is a huge fan of Frank Sinatra. But his relationship with Frank Sinatra goes much deeper than casual fanhood. Phil Crosby Jr's grandfather was the legendary Bing Crosby, a man who actually is said to have inspired Frank Sinatra to be a singer.
    This video happened at a large yearly musician's trade show called NAMM.

    As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me for Free" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).

    Actually, "my way" wasn't written by Franck Sinatra. It's a French song named "comme d'habitude" performed and written (+Gilles Thibaut) by Claude François, music by Jacques Revaux. Paul Anka made it famous in your country then Franck Sinatra sung it.
    Just for you to know it, love your channel full of good vibes 👍

      @@59lizzzhad heard the same thing; it came from a memoir written by Gary Crosby, one of his older sons. But the other kids denied it, and later Gary said it really wasn’t true and that the publishers and ghost writer had pressed him to juice things up to sell more books and he went along with it. Bing’s first wife, mother to Gary and I believe 3 of his brothers, was a raging alcoholic, very heavy drinker. It tore Bing apart, and he struggled to keep working while worrying and dealing with her and what it was doing to the children. Professional help was unsuccessful for her. If you look at pictures of those kids they have the look of fetal alcohol syndrome. Might help explain Gary’s poor judgement with the book. Those boys died relatively early: suicide, alcoholism, drugs, lots of problems. Very sad. Bing’s first wife died early from ovarian cancer no doubt complicated by the alcoholism. His second marriage went much better, and the wife and children from that marriage appear to have been a much happier lot. In the end, do I believe the guy was perfect? Nobody is. But was he the bastard Gary accused him of being? Not according to the rest of the family, nor others who knew him and his family well. I don’t believe it anymore, either. There are some good RUclips videos documenting Bing’s life, very interesting. Also, the Wikipedia page for Phil Crosby (Phil Jr’s dad) gives some clarity.

      @@nealsausen4651 I can see that potential. I didn't see "humble" here at all except for "humble brag". He seemed alright for the most part in this video, but I get a sense this is all a mask he wears in public, very "Hollywood" - it's almost impossible to tell what he's like privately. He might be just fine. But he also could easily be a bitter, abusive and abrasive person. Often times the people who put on a big "friendly" show are anything but, they just use it to get attention and special favor. Not going to speculate either way, but I have no reason to doubt your account based on what I see here.

      Yeah, he has or at least he had when I knew him the Hollywood phoniness thing going on, but he wasn’t THAT bad yet! he could be abusive to his musicians verbally! His piano player walked out on him at least four or five times that I remember, and he was a very he was a very talented piano player! He was also our musical Director this piano player you don’t want to lose someone like that! Phil went through at least two piano players when I was with him And that was about a year and a half worth of wasted time and effort I don’t know what he’s like now because I haven’t talked to him in over 10 years and I have no intention of ever talking to him! My whole thing is if someone is projecting negative energy best to just stay away from them as much as possible! And as for his singing?! @@kenz2756 your gene pool is also a part of how you're shaped, cause it's what gives you, your beginning shape. So everything and everyone is affected by their gene pool in the sense that, that's where they come from, it's in their genetics. It's dosnt, however, mean that you can't change your self, but if your gene pool is strong on a set of things that you want to change, you have to be aware of it and forcefully change it through out your life. (mostly seen among children of addicts, forcefully not wanting anything to do with things that makes them addicted, but still naturally weak towards the addiction.)

      @@gargoyled_drake Again that doesn't make any sense to me. Genes affecting inclinations/interests is very strange. It's an external factor if anything.
      If it's mental disorders or disease sure, but interests? I don't know how anyone make the conclusion it's genes. I'm already living a life where i can't at all believe that's the case. I did nothing to end up with a completely different demeanor than my family members.

      @@kenz2756 Well, different character traits lays partially in genetics - that’s for the “natural performer” ie mix of charisma and charm and confidence (remember partially). And your genes can result in you having a more developed temporal lope and a musculature and anatomy in your throat that makes you better at learning to sing and makes it sound better (respectively). You might not believe it, but genes are quite influential in your personality. Not completely, but partially.
      Edit: I can’t with my knowledge explain interests directly, btw. Only ability to learn what might interest you - I’d imagine the interests come (in a lot of cases) from early success with it or exposure to.

    • @kenz2756
      @kenz2756 Год назад

      @@Tristanlj-555 No, I'm not questioning physical ability, like the vocal cord. it's the inclination and personality that is just a stretch. Even with a certain temporal lobe (as you say) you're still subject to way too much differences. Morality for one is something that affects your personality a lot, yet it differs so much between different people even in the same family line. Even if genes have an effect on that it's insignificant and indirect.

      Bing apparently was strict but not abusive. The real problem was their mother with her raging alcoholism, very heavy drinker. Pretty messed up. Over the years there has been a lot of info about this, including some excellent documentary videos available on RUclips, but the Wikipedia page for Phil Crosby, Phil Jr’s dad, has a good write up on it. I remember when Phil’s brother Gary-who had alienated himself from the family-published his memoir alleging Bing was abusive and beat the crap out of the kids. It was shocking, totally unexpected. Phil was incensed and spoke out about Gary’s lies and greed. At a later time, Gary publicly recanted blaming the publisher and ghost writer for pressuring him to juice things up to sell more books. My recollection was Gary had a very problematic public reputation which worsened with age. Sad his allegations about Bing are still in the ether, but stuff like that kind of takes on a life of its own once it’s out there.
