  • We're excited to introduce the CRASH COURSE concept to our RUclips channel. We're taking a deeper dive into the RIGGING and FLY CHOICE portions of our READING WATER series to provide a more in-depth look at specific techniques and approaches.
    In the most recent episode of READING WATER, we tagged along with Umpqua's own Russell Miller as picks apart a classic western freestone riffle-run sequence with a variety of Euro Nymphing Tactics. In this video, Russ talks about his approach to rigging for the typical Euro Nymphing rig. Enjoy in HD.

    Great info!! Around the time you spend rigging replacements etc, I tend to spend an evening rigging 10 ish 7+ foot 2-3 fly rigs wrap them onto a foam spool and just swap through them when needed 3-4 clinch knots tippet ring and flies and I am back running just makes my days on the water more productive and less frustrating.

    Thanks for that video Russell. It was very helpful explaining the set up of the leader/tippet. Can you break down the approx. length of the 12lb, 10lb and 8lb sections of the leader please.

    I snip the tags on the sighter off. Leaves less chance of a bird's nest.
    Fish don't 'eat' (ingest) a fly. They aim to, but the angler foils their plan. Fish 'take' a fly.

    Great video and info as always. my question is what's length of the section from fly to the two color indicator pieces? just curious as the entire rig sounds super long being that the premade leader is 20' followed by tippet being another6 ft...

    Question for someone. In the video it mentioned if the dropper is too long it will wrap itself around the other line. I keep my dropper about 6” and it still wraps itself around the line to the point I take it off because it’s a hassle. Any suggestions?

    Is there any scenario in which the heavier nymph would be knotted to the fluoro dropper tag?

    • @mesanomad55
      @mesanomad55 2 года назад +1

      Yea definitely. The main reason would be if you want both flies close to bottom. Sometimes it may make sense to switch the anchor fly to the tag just because of a depth difference in a different part of the stream. Lots of reasons. His reasoning makes sense and is what may work for him most of the time.

    Where did that loop go that was snipped off? Where is that loop now? Where will that loop be, in a hundred years from now, or a thousand...or more...

    So yesterday while fishing a certain river I was watching a guy do this Euro thing. Multi colored leader. All he caught were rocks.
