Kerry has said many times this is his most hated song in the Slayer catalog because "it's too happy sounding." Personally, I think he's nuts. Killer tune and performance!
@@robbiekop7 No, Jeff was the one who hated Behind The Crooked Cross, Kerry actually said he wanted to play it live, but Jeff's dislike of it made it a no-go. Kerry did hate Cleanse The Soul though. I personally think this song is dark as hell, but maybe that's just me...

I don’t get why Kerry hates its opening riff. If this is “happy music” riff, so “Born of fire” opening riff is. The main difference between “Cleanse” and “Born” opening riffs is the previous song is Jeff’s and the latter is Kerry’s music. I get “Born”’s intro is a little more brutal, but they are similar and brothers in a sense to Metallica’s “Metal Militia”. Overall “Cleanse” is the ultimate Slayer song. Aggressive, ferocious, great riffs, exciting leads, excellent mixing and production. A very enjoyable track on my book. The only track I hate on that album is ensuing to this one: “Dissident aggressor” sounds too soft, polished and boring to feature on a Slayer album.
I love your solos, they seem to reflect these made by Jeff and Kerry in every single note. BTW. Did you just customized your ESP JH-600 appearance or is it another model?

Just the intro, which is in a Major key, I think. Still don't get it, either. It gives a nice contrast to the rest of the song.
The song is to happy, it should be played on Ballermann or Oktoberfest.
