I always loved his favourite short story that he wrote, the 1956 short story "The Last Question" and wonder why no one's made a film of it yet. It probably has the most optimistic story of humans and AI and is the most epic story I read when I first read it.
I like how Andrew's story could be considered an analogy of the story of the African-American from a slave to a freeman, to someone with rights, to someone with their own bank account and business, and success, and is finally allowed to intermarry with Portia, being like the interracial marriage that Guess Who's Coming To Dinner was about, and ending with the civil rights movement, retelling a 200 year history of America from 1776 to 1976, when the The Bicentennial Man short story was written.
It hurt's me to see how poorly rated this movie is. I just rewatched it and showed my girlfriend her first time of it. I was blown away viewing it as an adult. She absolutely loved it and almost cried just from missing Robin. I also noticed three directed references to Star Trek TNG, which I also love. This movie deserves so much more. A deep exploration of various aspects of humanity, reality, society. I described as, 5 seasons of an anime...in a single movie.
I'm still amazed that this was labeled as a comedy when it is so much more, also its worth stating while humanity could accept Andrew as a member of the human family in truth though he could not physically or biologically be a part of it but emotionally he is.

That is the best short story that I have ever read, hands down. It inspired me to start writing my own stories.
