This channel is good. I didn't get yelled at for ten minutes.
While true and important, the music and narrator are annoying.
@@RonJohn63 I personally like the narrators voice, but everyone has there own tastes
The narrator is 100x better than those videos that use artificial voices, and the music was overwhelming the narration. So good job B1M :)

That seems to have been the theme of 2018 on YT, instead of those shitty badly researched videos, narrated by kids who obviously have English as a 2nd language, Amazing and Richest I'm looking at you, there seem to have been an explosion recently of factual videos done by English folk with posh accents obviously raised on the BBC and Ch4 documentary output doing really good well researched stuff, and who know the importance of pronouncing words correctly, I mean that The Richest channel has millions of views and it's fucking appalling, they mispronounce even the simplest of common words.

Well researched? I don't know. I'm from the capital of Norway and can get to the seedvault within 3 hours if i want to. Not really remote. Cool, but not remote.
This is a high quality and very professional video. Well done.
This is the kind of information and education that we should be looking at. Thank you for offering this program.
I have always wondered if a previous civilization left a seed vault out in the middle of nowhere.
Would love to see someone use the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in a post apocalyptic books or movies.
I think it was featured in a McGuyver episode..
there is a horror audio drama podcast called the white vault playing there! it's fantastic give it a listen
Reminds me of infinity blade

That Sphinx Observatory is absolutely astonishing and currently sits near the top of my ever-expanding 'bucket list!' Really, the seed vault is only a 5 minute drive from Svalbard’s largest town...
Literally right between the airport and the town.
There's a remote island halfway between northern Norway and the North Pole, ....with a cabin and one guy residing there. Michael Palin interviewed him on one of Palin's specials.

This was a very interesting video. The story behind those buildings are very interesting. Being in such remote locations make the buildings aesthetics stand out to the eye.
A beautiful, and beautifully executed, video. A great way of showing off engineering to the average layperson without sounding too technical or pedantic. I think I'll subscribe.

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault has to be the best well-thought construction.
calm music, good voice, actual research. I was expecting to be shouted at by a kid and shown stock photos that everyone has already seen. Great video
Excellent video! I've been following this channel for a couple of years now BUT this is, without a doubt, the best video uploaded so far. It's good to see a level of production like this. Keep the good work guys!
The interior of the Halley VI research station looks cozy for an Antarctic outpost!
David Rosner Except that the rack with the pool cues was on the opposite side of the room from the pool table!

The thing wants to stay warm, what's say we warm things up a bit around here?
I can imagine those that stay in there winter months having a Shining moment
It gets progressively more comfortable as you go from the first pod to the last, it's really cool. There's a website that allows you to tour a 360 view of the entirety of the interior, including that club area.
It's really cool, and as someone who has always wanted to work in Antarctica, the fact that I'm not British means I can only dream of working at Halley
Well put together, decent narration and full quoted sources - a rarity on YT; thank you.
Now, that is what I call educational! Thank you for sharing. Excellent video, although there are many more similar structure that was very well done.
I love architecture and you get it right! Avant-garde, conceptual, conventional, and extreme, well displayed and explained. Keep it coming and please include more travel notes so we can plan to visit :)
You missed the Canadian Forces Base of Alert, on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island. I believe it is the most northern permanent structure of the world. It is manned 365 days/year by about 50 militaries and scientists. Check that out!

“The summer periode lasts a mere 3 months”...
Whoa...thats almost like every other country....
Not really
It should better be phrased as "warm periode"

I think the emphasis was that the construction work should be completed with three months... otherwise the weather would become too extreme
@Chi Sam I think they might have meant "period". Plus, they never said they're smart.

I was able to guess one of the buildings before I watched the video

Let's just hope that seed vault is never needed on a massive scale.
Haha, indeed!
Jude Lau it has already been used once in 2015. If you wanna know the details you can google for it.
Unlike popular believe, it’s not really meant for “the apocalypse”.
Its in regular use storing different varieties and new developments, and occasionally take smth out as well.
Its really not the end of the world nonsense people flat out invent about it.
@@joelmulder dont "google" anything unless you want to find bullshit

Very interesting, I recognise the light house from the BBC pre show adverts and as you pointed out, the Eso Hotel from the Bond film, never knew it had that dome in it though.
I love how it sits into the landscape with its flat face looking like a wall, it’s hard to explain why that is so beautiful to me.
Great presentation sir, even greater content.Great JOB!
Narration is far more better from than other youtube channels.
Extremely well done and informative, gorgeous production on this video. Brilliant!
Other than the SEED Vault never knew about other buildings..That Quantam of Solace Hotel is a real place!! I thought it was just a Set..
Yeah I too was thinking the same but when I saw it I was like wait I have seen this building before.
"That Quantam of Solace Hotel is a real place!"
Pretty much all later bond movie center pieaces are real places. They usualy take a brand new building and make it edgier, often changing the context of the building, but keeping the actually building pretty much as it is.
The rediculas ice base supposedly in island in Die another day is actually a the eden project in the UK.
The giant dish at the end of Golden Eye is the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.
Its pretty much this way in every bond movie. It open up in a remote location. Then goes to a center London location, then goes to a turist trap, and then end in a exotic remote location
Seeing you talk about the Sphinx Observatory reminded me of when I used to live in Switzerland and my school took a trip to Wengen during the winter. We ended hiking up to the Restaurant Eigernordwand and besides the fact that I had a mind blowing realization that I had ended up eating at the restaurant that I had spent hundreds of times passing by while playing Gran Turismo 5, Hiking to the Eigernordwand in the dead of winter with absolutely dead cold freezing temperatures and snow coming down, it was like only something you'd expect to experience in a video game. The only thing comparable I could think of was like the first time I had to climb High Hrothgar when I played Skyrim as a kid for the first time, minus the troll of course. Switzerland is truly an otherworldly place, nowhere else on Earth like it.
That Antarctic research station looks so cozy! I'd love to spend the winter there.
perhaps the most illuminating 10 minutes on remote human architecture. excellent.
The Bishop's Rock Lighthouse, fantastic today but astonishing back then.
Made me tear up....and music really played its part in it.

The Svalbard Seed vault is hardly remote! It is located only a few miles from the thriving town of Longyearbyen, which has a permanent population of over 2000 people, as well as a functioning International airport with regular commercial flights
I think he probably included it because it was designed to be remote and, although it's relatively close to civilization compared to other things on this list, it's still fairly far away that it's no longer under threat of direct bombardment, and the vault itself is built to withstand virtually anything that doesn't directly damage it.
Nice to meet you here
