Haven't played the game since the first month it launched, excited to get back into it and try speedrunning like I've wanted to since release! So wait, the Hogsmeade part...you can buy stuff and then revert to last save and still have the stuff?
Yes. When you buy something it creates a new autosave, and it just so happens that for the first visit to Hogsmeade the spawn point is always at the entrance, until you need to meet Natty in the town spuare :)
Okay, at 1:20 in the speedrun, you're doing something where you hop on and off a broom, casting incendio and revealio and you do it 30ish times...what is that? I can't find anything that explains this...
This is to perform what we call XP duplications. When jumping on and off the broom, the flying pages in Central Hall get de-loaded (since you need accio to get them, which you can't cast while on the broom) and then loaded again when jumping off. For some reason, the game has a hard time doing this fast enough (we think), so it just stacks a bunch of pages on top of each other that you can grab with a single accio. We do something similar in Hogsmeade a few minutes before where I run in circles 13-ish times. Here, I enter and exit the load trigger for the area around the plantshop, giving the same result.
