It's the transmission. This old automatik Wandler are not rly fast than manual, new Wandler or DSG.

Maybe my dude got scammed since you can hardly tell the difference of 330 and 320 from the looks. Or the car is in bad condition/sth is wrong. I don't know
Well it might be a couple of things all together, I’m a mechanic at BMW, and while I’m still young, there’s a few old guys who’ve been fixing these cars while new. As I’m seeing this vid its clear it’s not as fast as it should be. There’s always a slight loss of momentum in the torque converter, combined with the fact that these cars are allready 21-17ish years old they might’ve lost some of their prime performance. And indeed its a convertible, they’re a bit more heavy. I drive a modest 323ci coupe (manual ofcourse) which is not actually that slow, a friend of mine’s driving a 330ci convertible as well, and if i try hard I’m able to keep up with him.
I think your transmission or engine is toast. I had a manual and automatic 330ci and they both did 250 kph without trouble.

I dont know what it is but the 30s dont perform that good.
I had a 330ci coupe Automatic for 5 years, 70 000 Km to 170 000 Km.
It achieved 6.9 to 100 Km/h but the amazingly exact speedo showed 240 max.
I had it on dyno at 100 000 Km approx , it had 219 hp, but everything healthy though.
Does automatic have taller gearing? Or too large tires? Looks like 5th gear does not reach close to 6k rpm

Thats true! The Automatic has taller gears. Therefore factory claimed 7.0 to 100, manual 6.5.
Acc to Title mine should have done 247.

This is (really) slow - and it is cause of the wheels. Seems to be 18'' (19'' perhaps?) if I see this right at the beginning of the video? I own one by myself. 2002, 330ci, Automatic Gearbox - mine is much faster than this one. Always reaches about 242-245 km/h (slightly over the 240km/h mark, always!), on good weather conditions (evening, colder air) 250km/h+ can be reached. So, a friend of mine got a 2004, 330ci, 6-speed manual with 18'' wheels. Even with this manual gearbox, I always toasted him. The difference: I got 17'' wheels. So, one with automatic gearbox and 17'' is faster than a manual gearbox with 18''. We tested this several times, on different temperatures etc. He said he fairly reaches 230-235km/h - faster, no way. And he said, mine is noticeable faster than his one as he drove it. So, combination of automatic gearbox, large wheels and perhaps the 300.000+ kilometers makes this one that slow. But in combination, it's ok for a 19 year old car I guess?!

Das ist ein e46 330i Cabrio mit Automatik + guter Austattung , dieser wiegt natürlich etwas mehr wie ein limo mit Schaltgetriebe und magerer Ausstattung.
Und wer weiß ob der die Volle Leistung noch bei dieser KM noch hat, Vanos / Lmm ect..
Dieser 330ci wurde nicht gepflegt behandelt, man sieht und hört es auch.
Although e36 is legendary, this car is just much more stable and solid; e36 seems to feel more like an 80s car, meanwhile this is as modern as a 2010’s car.

I doubt the motor will lose around 50hp with age (since 170 vs 231 at 320 vs 330)....

Maybe it's missing a couple of hp but I think the transmission is the main reason. When it shifts into 5th at 220 the car only has 4800rpm, I guess it will only deliver 180-190hp then
That's the VMAX of a 320ci 😅 I drive one, it's over 170k km and 100% stock.
So the 330i definitely should be way faster than that

Like many say it seems slower than it should be, but keep in mind that a convertible is also 100kg heavier if I'm not mistaken.

@@dokterkarel ive done the Test! Friends 320 clubsport coupe 19inch wheels 1420kg my 320 convertible 17inch stock wheels 1640 both tanks almost equal and he have a sunroof that weighs 30 Kilos. Sorry for my offensiveness! Im a donkey too! Im Pulling a lot of weight😂

Mmm pretty slow, heavy car and slow gearbox which also gives a lot of powerloss. Refurbished my automatic gearbox. Runs a lot better now. My 330i sedan runs 22s 100-200 measured by Dragy. And does about 245km/h GPS verified.
Manual its pretty good though.

Not really toast, but thers a problem, for shure. Can be the flow meter, or DISA valve.

Beim 330i mit Automatik wird der Topspeed (250 Km/h) normalerweise im 4. Gang erreicht. auch beim Cabrio!
Da der 4. schon bei 220 Km/h in den Begrenzer dreht, ist hier offensichtlich nicht mehr alles original. Vermutlich hat der Besitzer hier ein kürzeres Differential verbaut.

I dont know whats wrong with yours or is it cause its an automatic, but mine old manual 5 speed 330ci e46 231hp with 286tkm was accelerating way faster over 200kph and was going almost 260kph

la 330 nest pas dorigine surement reprogrammmer et a liberer le vmax on doit bien ressentir la puissance a l’intérieur. le proprietaire tire plus court avec plus de puissance par contre en pointe il perd en pointe. sur ses modeles on modifie la cartho comme on veut donc croyez moi sa avance bien

Indeed , i have e36 325i its fun to drive ,the M50 soud great but when it come to 220 km/h in the highway my biggest fear is to loose a wheel !
Irgendwie stimmt an dem 330ci cabrio was nicht meiner ist zwar ein 5 Gang Schalter auch cabrio aber der läuft weit besser und braucht nicht ewig bis 250 und ist auch original nur endschalldämpfer ist von bastuck 🤔

Your test car is slow, the E36 328i you tested was faster. I hear alot of wind noise in your video, maybe the wind was gusting against you that day. Your time from 100 to 200 of 26sec is the same you got in the 125kw 220CDI Merc,
This thing has no balls whatsoever, it's like 150hp maximum. Something must be wrong with it
