This is the best episode yet. Everyone knows racing is about fitting into a set of class rules, then exploiting, bending or breaking those rules to the best of your ability. Just ask Toyota about their Celica GTFour. :D

If this ends up going the way they want, that's exactly what'll happen.
Nothing against the winning car or driver, they interpreted the rules better and obviously knew how to drive.
But you can't steer away from the fact that the winning car obviously had mods that the BOM Citroen didn't, 2 seconds is nothing short of completely insane.

One of the main reasons why I love your channel is not just the insane attention to detail and over-the-top fabrication, but the information you provide.
Other channels primarily go over the driving aspect itself, or overall build of a car, but very few have gone into detail of setting up an existing chassis and dealing with issues you wouldn't typically see in a dedicated racing chassis. Which is GREAT information for someone, like myself, that wants to get more serious about racing but only has basic hand-tools and mechanical knowledge.

I absolutely love the fact you didn't just go like "meh, if we can't weld onto the chassis, it's not even worth it to try with brackets and screws" and did it. It was really good seeing you testing it somehow too, scientifically with the jack, and not just say "yeah, we bolted them together, it's better, bye". Really my kind of entertainment these parts are!

It determined me to go on and buy a Toyota Yaris T Sport to turn into a light racer. A lot of the suspension tricks you guys do (or don't, due to rules) is stuff that I can easily apply to the ToYoda. Can't wait for the next episode!

I met a guy who was a tech inspector for the spec Honda Civic series over here in Canada many years ago. As I too love to read & study the rule book to figure out every angle to gain an edge, I was interested to hear what this gentleman had to say about what competitors did to "skirt" the rules. One thing I remember is that they artificially aged the strut caps with ozone ( don't ask how this was done, but this is what I was told). The original rubber in the strut caps would get very hard, reducing the the "give" & therefore making the suspension more predictable. Another trick they did was to pack their shocks in dry ice & swap them out right before a session. The shocks would get much stiffer for several laps, which would give you an initial advantage. I'm very curious how your current mods will change your lap times & race standings. Love the channel & all of your endeavors.

Here in the States in SCCA Club Racing we refer to your rules reading as “IIDSYCYC”, which is “If It Doesn’t Say You Can You Can’t.” However, most don’t realize the corollary to that is “IIDSYCYBWS”, which means “If It Doesn’t Say You Can’t You Bloody Well Should.”
Welcome to the development cycle of racing. In a tight rules controlled series (here it would be Spec Miata, where I race) one spends all of one’s time exploring the grey areas and maximizing car set up and prep.

That bump steer limiter was basically what they did on the Chevy Corvair. Had to fabricate something similar on a Renault 9 that, in its old age, apparently had a habit of stressing the front engine mount. A set of eyelets were crimped onto a length of high-strength steel cable to act as a limiter.

One thing you can do to stiffen a chassis (depending on the wording of the regulations ) is to spray some closed cell fire retardant construction foam into every suitable cavity. You can even make some suitable cavities by riveting some aluminium sheet to the floor and ceiling with a gap of about half an inch between and spraying the foam in between.
It has the added benefit of heat shielding and sound deadening for very little weight gain.
Doing this can make a floppy sock as stiff as a board.

I started on a project car of my own. Nothing to the extent of Binky, however, it does have some brackets that are showing what a life living near the coast in a former ownership looked like.
Once i removed the engine to get it disassembled to be inspected and rebuilt, I got to work refinishing the brackets.
Strangely, as I was putting a wirewheel attachment to my drill... I heard a faint whisper from Nik "Lets make new ones", so like any logical person, I made new brackets.
As I was making the new brackets with my cutting wheel and making 90 degree bends using the bench vice, I could feel the warm yet ghostly feeling of Nik's hands gliding over mine and guiding me to bracket perfection. As if it was the pottery scene from Ghost.
