Medical providers here, I am on my feet all day long (8-13hr) in a professional style……I refuse to wear anything but flats….my health is more important.
Thank you for this! I used to live in heeled booties, a thick heel which is way more comfortable than a heeled pump. However, I am recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery and heels are not in my foreseeable future. I have been wearing a barefoot ballet pump from vivobarefoot for now and it’s functional but by no means stylish. Can’t wait to pick up the right loafers and put these tips to work. This was very timely for me!
Wonderin how tennis shoes fit into this? I’m chuckling as I watch this - as a 62 year old women who is 6’ tall - I dream of wearing stillitos and have spent my life in flats. This was ENORMOUSLY helpful! I totally agree that showing some ankle makes it more feminine - if only that had been try in my youth when I was teased mercilessly for ‘high water’ pants. Thank goodness, fashion has evolved! People always gawk at me and say “OMG you are so tall” - as though this information has slipped by me? So funny (now). Appreciate all I am learning from you!
This was really great information about flats. I am 76 years old and working a job that requires some kind of flat shoes. Do you have any information about flats that have a really nice interior that feels a little bit like the inside of a tennis shoe, soft and supportive for people who have jobs where they need to stand up a lot during the day. I really love your channel. I have been working on my closet this year, even though I have been watching your videos for many years, I think it’s fun to shop my closet and to notice how many repetitions I have too many pink tank tops for instance when I might be able to just get along with only one or two, I’m trying to weed out the things that I don’t really need to give more room for the clothesthat I love and wear keep up your good work. You are a great value to all of us.
Hi Alyssa, thanks for yet another great video. As a mom who walks in a city a lot every day, I wear flats all the time. I find relatively easy to style them without socks. The challenge starts when it gets too cold and rainy for that, but perhaps still too early for winter boots. So, as an idea for a follow up video, how about styling low flats with socks and also, styling different types of ankle boots? Thanks for giving it a thought. Have a fantastic day.
I haven't worn heels for longer than I can remember... but discovered that in the 21st century you can find lots of gorgeous shoes without heels. I have worn a lot of Giuseppe Zanotti (many models available from his own outlet or discount websites) loafers: comfortable and glamorous. Also slim pointed toe ankle boots!
Ciao Alyssa! I wanted to let you know that I've had to switch from heels to flats due to some back issues. It's been a bit of a style adjustment, but I've been learning to work with flats and I'm actually finding it quite fun. Plus, at 5'10", I really don't miss wearing heels all that much. Thanks for sharing your tips today! Bravissima 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻
I recently retired after 31 years in heels. Boy did I need this! I struggle (!) with flats but I’m moving to Madrid so I really have to figure this out! Thank you! 😊
I gave up heels about a year ago, and now have flats and compensated heels, which are so comfortable. This was such a useful video and I loved seeing you narrate the images, thank you :)
Thanks for this video. Because I have plantar fasciitis and high arches , I have a hard time with really flat shoes and I am always searching for flats with just a little heel. I love loafers so it’s always pleasure to see you style them.
I have recently become obsessed with Vivaia flats for the comfort factor… and I’ve previously stuck to heels. This video was great in helping me figure out how to style different types of flats!
This was so helpful. The majority of my shoes are flats because I love the look and they are oh so comfortable. I've had my days of wearing heels and platforms in the 70's.
Thank you… I’ve been wondering about exactly this! Shoes are tricky at times. I’m never sure how to select the shoes to go with pants these days. Your content is always so helpful!
I did learn something new! I always look for flats with a high vamp so my feet won't hurt (a low vamp cuts across bunions and irritates them). Now I know why most flats have low vamps--to be more flattering!
If you have bunions, try Vivaia flats. I have bunions and plantar fasciitis. I'm also a teacher and on my feet for 11 hours a day. Vivaia shoes are what I wear these days almost exclusively.
Brilliant video Alyssa! I love the style of pointed flats for special occasions, but as I have a walking commute plus have to keep legs covered and am on my feet a lot in a lab, I’m usually in trainers or boots. I’ve been wondering how I could make a high-vamp loafer work as a petite who still wants to look feminine and not “weighed down” at the feet - so thanks for the great outfit examples and using some “technical” terms to help articulate specific features of shoes and styles of clothing to pair together 😄
You might want to look up Vessi shoes. They have a new flat that is waterproof(Vancouver weather) and very cute, reminiscent of a Venetian slipper but practical.
I love heels but have lost all interest in wearing shoes that hurt. I life in a walking city and want to hit the streets in comfort and style. Thanks for the excellent video, so helpful.
I can't wear anything higher than about an inch or so, having lived in flats all my life (learning how to walk in heels when you're trying to make a good impression at a party or interview is really not the time!) and have a wide variety of shoes for different occasions. I still haven't found a good pair of ballet flats, though, because they don't tend to be sturdy and supportive in the way I would need if wearing them for a long time while on my feet. I do have a pair of 1940s inspired flats with just a bit of a wedge for that subtle lift, that I have worn when I need that bit of elegance that fill that role for me, at least for now. Having the right pair of shoes for the right occasion is so important. Look after your feet, and they'll look after you!
I only had two pairs of colored flats when in March I started having a Bakers Cyst issue. Its particularly important as a petite that I chose low vamp pointed toes. Years ago I donated ballet flats and won't go back. One note on flat footwear is sneakers, which are definitely having a moment now! I found this video to comfirm my choices and to explain why, thank you 😊
Unbelievably useful video - thank you! I think I've always instinctively gravitated towards flats with the qualities you've described, but I've never thought about why that is in such a structured and articulate way. Love this :)
Bravo, Alyssa! That was very helpful and specific. I enjoy your videos so much- great quality, and I find them to be relevant and fun (especially the older ones where you style something multiple ways) Thank you!
Thank you, Alyssa! I rarely wear heels, maybe a chunky, platform type occasionally...not the standard heel. This will be a helpful video for me. 😊❤️Great point about the flat shoe with something more voluminous like a maxi skirt or dress...which are wardrobe favorites of mine. ❤
I was a stellito girl for 25 years. Then I needed both hips replaced and a new knee on the horizon. I am now a flat girl with an occasional kitten heel. Pointed toes are my favorite.
This is soooo helpful - thank you, Alyssa! 😍I have flats but they all have rounded toes! I'll keep an eye out for pointed toe styles that are both comfortable and stylish. All the examples were great, too! I especially liked the black mini, light blue slim crop with light blue flats, and the red mini.... okay, who am I kidding. All the looks were terrific!😉
Love this video. I always avoided flats other Thant a sneaker or boot because I felt they looked geriatric. My feet can’t take the heels anymore so I’m excited to make the transition. Thank you for the tips!
Hi, Alyssa! You always bring very good content to us. And you never sound like a IA in a way of speaking which makes you unique, I can say. Thank you for being so natural. Its so pleasurable to listen to you ❤
Hi! Thank you… question what do you wear for “socks” with the low vamp flats? They can be difficult to find and seem to not fit well. Thank you and great video 😊
Great video. I have been gradually reducing my heels height as I’m getting older (turning 50 soon). Hard initially but those Chanel black tip ballerina made it easier.
This was so helpful. Im a heels girl but have had to go to lower heels and flats for hip and back issues. Im still struggling finding cute comfortable flats to wear with a knee length pencil skirt. Any suggestions?
Hi just found your channel and I’m enjoying it. Now this makes perfect sense the low vamp vs high. I have a pair of wedge sandals suede that I love but they have high vamp and can’t seem to style . I only wear them with maxi skirts . I feel that they make my feet look chunky.
This was so helpful. I'm 5'10" and also have a 4 year old son who's always running around, heels are rarely the right shoe choice for me, but I was totally stuck in the story of "heels are sexy". thank you!
I have tried a lot of flats (talking about other than sneakers) and i have really just never been happy with how any of them looked. I thought they all looked dowdy. That all changed when I found the Sarah Flint Natalia which I now have in two colors. I’m sure I’d like the block heel classic Chanel and maybe Gucci loafers (although I guess they’re a tad dated at this moment) but I don’t want to spent that much and I’m very happy with the Natalia.
Ciao Alyssa, I love that you have presented the looks at the same time, it is easier to understand. I have been in sandals all summer and have a lot of difficulty to wear shoes in september. I have sling back and other "higher hills" that I would like to wear with skirts or pants but I do not know if I need to wear a stocking (yeark!) or not. Can you talk about this please.
I’d love to wear flats but I haven’t found any that give enough support. But I don’t wear heels either. Comfort is key for me so it’s tennis style shoes and ankle boots for me 😊 regardless what I wear.
I’ve always shied away from heels because if my height and comfort, and I’ve never felt frumpy. Sometimes I find them harder to style but never frumpy. I guess im lucky!
being tall have never got into heels with much gratitude. Don’t dislike them just not interested .however beware flats that are too flat with excessive walking can cause injury so think about footbed structure.
I can see you are a shoe girl, you really know your shoes 🩶 These outfits, with these shoes, are visually very pleasing. On another note, I would love to see your ideas on how to wear sweaters without doing the tuck! It took me years to master the different tucks, but now, it feels so dated that it no longer looks good, I think it ruins the look if we do it! While I was watching this video I paid attention on that your cropped tops looked very nice, and also a cardigan or sweater (a slim one) looks good when fully tucked in. Also, the denim on denim look was on point, when the denim shirt was not tucked in at all. I look forward to wearing all my sweaters, many of which are oversized, and longer, the coming fall, but I also don’t know how exactly I would wear them now. Tucking in is no longer an option.
You know I find shoes to be the hardest element of an outfit to get right. Its a lot do do with the vibe of the shoe in my case. A lot of us grew up wearing nothing but clunky runners. I still feel most at home in Birkenstocks, but sometimes they aren't doing me any favours. Lol. Thanks for the info..
Hi Alyssa, thanks a lot for yet another great video ! I'm nearly always wearing flats, as I am 185 cm and in summertime this works great with the "cropped" look of all my jeans and trousers (as it is nearly impossible to find good jeans that are "long enough"). But I tend to struggle during the colder season. I'm not an adept of the couloured or tennis socks trend and as I live in Switzerland going with open shoes in winter is not an option. I do not really can get warm with the skin ("sausage") peaking above my boots when I sit down as the season changes and this always gets me into an urge to find new longer jeans, thing I by the time know I will not find. Do you have a stylish suggestion on how to manage this ? Thank you ! Have a good week !
Perfect timing, i need to replace my black leather ballet flats. I don't like pointy shoes, i think that it makes my feet look long, which is really silly as I have small feet for my height, but I really prefer round toe over pointy 😊. I very seldom wear heels and definitely not on a daily basis 😂 I live in Europe and the cobble stone streets are a hazard 😂😂😂
I am 5’8 with a long torso and short legs. If I put a pair of flats on I feel like my legs look like little stumps. I always have to wear a heel to elongate my legs instead.
I have a similar leg-to-torso challenge, but I hate wearing heels, and I find that wearing high-waisted skirts or pants, or focusing on defining my natural waist in other ways, helps me to elongate my legs. Thought I’d share, in case you ever want more options in your style toolbox!
I just bought 8 pairs of flats from Amazon, 6 pairs with various designs with pearls or crystals on vamp. They have pliant outsole. Some have pointy toe box, some have more square-ish toe box. I call them Bollywood flats because of the bling factor. They aren’t made to last but because they cost me $15/$20 a pair I don’t mind not having them for a long time. I love wearing those flats with jeans, especially skinny and wide leg style. I also have quite a few linen dresses I can pair with. I love having one unexpected element in styling to break the mode.
Literally at 5ft3, I struggle with flats. I have very short legs and a long body.....so much easier if you are tall and long legged. I feel invisible in flats.
I have a problem with a bunion therefore I really dislike those very low, vamp ballerina shoes there I find them uncomfortable, and I actually prefer a higher vamp with pants
Yes, try Mary Janes! I have the same issue and don’t have that problem with Mary Janes. Also trying a narrow fit may help - I thought I had medium width feet for years until I tried narrow fits and realized my feet were actually narrow.
Honestly, pointed toes may look great, but how many guys are walking around with bunions, neuromas (pinched nerves between toes that zing you when you walk) and big toe arthritis by 50? Do people a favor as an influencer: do a styling video that at least includes some barefoot style ballerinas or loafers. You don’t get it now - I certainly didn’t- but you’ve made this your job. Worth considering - you’d certainly be doing a favor to some people in your demographic.
I am 5’8 with a long torso and short legs. If I put a pair of flats on I feel like my legs look like little stumps. I always have to wear a heel to elongate my legs instead.
I'm your long lost twin! 🤣 I have found that a low vamp pointed flat is a pretty good compromise - especially with high waisted pants. That combo helps my legs look longer.
Medical providers here, I am on my feet all day long (8-13hr) in a professional style……I refuse to wear anything but flats….my health is more important.
ditto!!! Shout out to Sambas baby🎉🎉🎉 all the colors 😆
I'm completely on board! I had to bid farewell to high heels because of my back problems.
Thank you for this! I used to live in heeled booties, a thick heel which is way more comfortable than a heeled pump.

Try vivavia shoes….
I got an adorable ballet flats from aerosole last fall and wore the heck out of them. So comfy.
I second this suggestion!@@AmyeTevaarwerk
ECCO and SAS shoes have very comfortable and stylish shoes.

Try the ballerinas from Salvatore Ferragamo. High end prices but beautifully made and sturdy; They last decades if taken care of!

Excellent as always. I still don’t love most dresses with flats. But maybe I can apply your ideas and make the look work.
Bravo, Alyssa! That was very helpful and specific. I enjoy your videos so much- great quality, and I find them to be relevant and fun (especially the older ones where you style something multiple ways) Thank you!
That was a fabulous subject video!! So often we don’t know what’s off with a cool outfit, but see something off-it’s the shoe! Really helpful video!
Thanks for this. I've found M Gemi to have great flats! Italian.
Such great information, Alyssa. I do struggle a bit with shoe choices, but this certainly makes it easier. Thank you ❤
Love all the examples in this video. Really illustrates the concepts!

I really enjoyed this video.
Great video, Alyssa! ❤
I needed this! My recent foot surgery means I can't wear heels for many months. Thank you, Alyssa.
Hi! Thank you… question what do you wear for “socks” with the low vamp flats? They can be difficult to find and seem to not fit well.
Thank you and great video 😊
❤ great analysis of a low heel shoe.
Great video. I have been gradually reducing my heels height as I’m getting older (turning 50 soon). Hard initially but those Chanel black tip ballerina made it easier.

Thank you for making this video, it's been so helpful, will be restyling my flats with a new approach.
What a refreshing approach to style. TFS ❤
Hi just found your channel and I’m enjoying it. Now this makes perfect sense the low vamp vs high. I have a pair of wedge sandals suede that I love but they have high vamp and can’t seem to style . I only wear them with maxi skirts . I feel that they make my feet look chunky.

This was great! can't wear heels so I loved these tips!
Very helpful!!!
So happy for this video 😊
Thank you for this, I have a very hard time with higher heels. Flats or low heels are best for me ❤
I have tried a lot of flats (talking about other than sneakers) and i have really just never been happy with how any of them looked.
This was very helpful and informative! Thank you 🙏🏼 ❤
Great video!
Ciao Alyssa, I love that you have presented the looks at the same time, it is easier to understand.

I have just one pair of ballet flats with a pointed toe. Otherwise ballet flats either pinch my toes or fall off my feet.
I always want to wear flats but heels slip out of flats. I would love to find the ones does not.
Have you tried Mary Jane style shoes? There are so many available at the moment.
Yes, try Mary Janes! I have the same issue and don’t have that problem with Mary Janes. Also trying a narrow fit may help - I thought I had medium width feet for years until I tried narrow fits and realized my feet were actually narrow.
@@sigriddjernaes I will definitely try them!! Thank you 😊
@@jl82714 I will and I think my feet are medium but good idea to try narrow ones as well. Thank you ☺️
@@jl82714 I will try and also will make sure my feet are medium width or not. Thank you.
As a flat-footed person-a pox on heels, I say! They are ridiculous and unnecessary.
Never considered flats to be “frumpy”…
Thanks a lot for another very interesting and useful video! 🫶💝
