I have the light weight storm 308. It’s light and short and a pleasure to carry and hunt with. Reminds me of my old daisy BB gun that I carried many miles. Mine weighed in 5.9. Got a crossfire scope. Shoots a cloverleaf at 100 yards with Norma 150 grain. Kicks like a small garden mule. Put a boss on and it tamped in down by half. Now I have earplugs looped around trigger guard. I’m not going to take barrel off and look in it. As close as it shoots I’m not ever turning a screw I’ll take your word for it. You’ve done a good job on your video. Oh yea it shoots 1 inch at 200 yards. I’ll keep it 😂
This is the best review I've seen on RUclips. Thanks to you and comprehensive information on three models of SAVAGE rifles, I have definitely decided on the choice of Storm. Thank you very much.
Really nice comparison of the rifles. I just wished you have provided an assessment of how the Lightweight shot. There is very little information on the web reviewing this gun and how accurate/ reliable it is when shooting.
Go and get one in your hands. Have the Storm there too. Flex it and I bet you’ll hand it back. Friend has one in 7mm mag and it’s all he can do to get it sighted in. Seems every time he comes to the bag it shoots someplace different. (Betting it’s an inconsistent hold) I have the storm, that aluminum block makes all the difference in the world. I’ll carry the extra weight all day to know my shot will hit where I need it too.
Thank you for doing this video! I own a Weather Warrior and a Lightweight Storm. The Lightweight Storm is very light! I hope it shoots as well as all of my other Savage rifles!
I look at the Storm and can find many things on it that I wish were on the lightweight Storm, but each and every one adds to the weight. The lightweight Storm is extremely accurate and I've yet to have any problems with the ones I own. At 70 years old, lightweight rifles just have more appeal when I'm hunting in the mountains.
great comparison. I have a 110 Storm in 308 that I love just a little more each time I use it. I sent the bolt off to a company that cut in the spiral fluting because I've always loved that look. Great video!
I have a storm in 223 and a buddy has the lite in 7mm mag. 3 shots and I was zeroed. Recheck cold shot zero next day no issue. Buddies rifle is all over the place. Get it “sighted in” and tomorrow the cold bore shot will be off 4”. I am of the belief that he is resting heavy , causing the stock to contact the barrel. 223 110 storm. End of barrel measures .585”
Awesome video. My one daughter has the 110 storm lefty 270 shoots excellent. Almost bought the other daughter (righty) the lightweight but didn’t realize it wasn’t a accustock.
@@freedomlover425 I like the idea of the aluminum bedding and was hoping to put it into a boyds stock hahaha It was just the only 7mm-08 I could find with a 20in barrel!
I have the LW storm in 7-08. Shoots ~1/2moa 3shot groups. I’ve got Talley rings and a Leupold vx freedom 4-12 with cds and tri-moa reticle on it. I installed a SRS arca rail section in the forend for tripod shooting, and had a gunsmith thread the muzzle 1/2x28 and put a 1.2oz 3port brake on it. Weighs 7lbs 2oz ready to hunt with sling and 4 rounds in the magazine. Makes a fine “mountain rifle” on a budget.
@@freedomlover425your video helped me with my purchase. Was the only info I could find on the breakdown of the weights of the different components. Thanks.
@@bradenherle8774 it’s pretty simple. Rail came with some t-nuts. Drilled the holes in the right spot and epoxied the t nuts in place inside the stock so they wouldn’t be loose in the forend if I ever pulled the rail off. Couple of bolts to hold the rail on. I mounted it just in front of the magazine/ front action screw.
Great video. I bought one in 7mm08 storm. It was my 5th 110. ALL have had warped stocks even the 110 storm with aluminum reinforces stock. Worst stocks in the industry by miles
Wonder if it's possible to open up that recoil lug slot in the standard AccuStock and fit the Lightweight barreled action in. That would be my dream setup as well, a little more weight for better rigidity and bottom metal but retaining the light, short-barreled upper.
How does the Lightweight Storm perform @ 100yds? Thank you for the comparison of models. I’ve been curious about the L-Storm for some time, but haven’t seen a lot of review.
It only weighs 6.2lbs which is nice and light, I picked up the light weight being 5.6 and it is crazy how much lighter it feels. Definitely a nice gun.
The Savage 110 Storm is a far better built rifle versus the Savage 110 Lightweight Storm. The 2 extra pounds are mute. I prefer the heavier barrel, aluminum bedding block and all metal magazine. I own 2 Savage 16FCSS Weather Warriors in 223 Remington and 338 Federal. I also own 2 Savage 110 Hunters in 243 Winchester and 280 Ackley Improved. All 4 rifle have the Accustock and all metal magazines.
I have owned a Savage lightweight Storm .308 Win and I changed the bolt body out to a smooth one because the spiraled bolt ran rough as hell, my rifle is a pleasure to carry and it shoots fine (1-1.5") but im not a fan of the action design, i also think the adjustable length of pull is a nice feature
Hmm, I would have thought that they could have engineered a partial or skeletonized block for the light. Still, not a bad option for someone who prefers to stalk their prey or patrol for predators/varmints.
wow, thank you so much, I was about to buy the lightweight in 308, you made me change my mind. I own a Savage 110 Varmint in 223 with the aluminum bedding, such a precise rifle. I will then continue to search for a short barrel (20 inches or less) and under 7 pounds iin 308 for a "walk & stalk" whitetail deer hunting. Any suggestions ?
Honestly I'm still a fan of the Lightweight Storm for exactly what you describe. If it was me I'd get it and then look into aftermarket stocks in the future. Or you might decide the factory one is fine after you shoot it a bit. Past that, everyone loves Tikkas, but I don't have any experience with them because I personally prefer USA products.
@@freedomlover425 I still have one Savage (110 Varmint in 223), but I also had in the past a 110 in 300 WM and my beloved 10T in 308... I really love this brand: affordable, precise . I also own a Browning X-Bolt Hell's Canyon in 30-06., which is my moose / black bear rifle, with a 22 inches barrel and a big scope, not practical for walking 8 to 10 miles a day.
I don't have an Apex Storm but I have read they have the plastic "Axis style" bottom & magazine, like the LW Storm has in this video. I would imagine that means it's also not an Accustock with the aluminum bedding block either, but I'm just guessing.
@@freedomlover425 forgot to get back here after doing more research... I'm not sure on stock or bottom metal yet but that would make sense. They supposedly do have the accustock as well. I think one of the biggest differences is they come factory with a pic rail and a vortex crossfire scope.
Not bad but that really depends what you're used to. For someone who's only shot ARs, any full power hunting rifle will be a wake up call. The barrel is a bit on the heavy side and the stock is shaped nicely with a good pad, I find it completely comfortable to shoot.
Haha…. I stripped the black coating off my savage lightweight and it cycles even better! I felt the coating was not that smooth and it served no purpose. So i stripped it and have a buttery smooth polished stainless on stainless!
