      That is a fine haircut you have sir! I would say the 3000gt had 4 versions. 1. 91-93 with pop up headlights, testarossa inspired side skirts and front bumper, and a fake mid engine grill in the rear. 2. 94-96 projector headlamps, rounded body style, split front and side air scoops while still retaining the active Aero. 3. 97-98 a more aggressive front bumper with larger openings and a "tooth" splitting the radiator opening. "St. Louis Arch" wing and true black interior with larger padded leather door cards. ('98 got an updated climate control but no cosmetic changes) 4. The '99 had what you mentioned, a large fish mouth front bumper with bubble style headlights/turn signals, a fake ferrari like grill pattern on the rear taillight garnish, and its most defining feature, the combat wing.

    The 3GT is the most beautiful vehicle ever made. The shape is one of a kind. It sits low and wide just ready to tear up the road. This is my favorite vehicle of all time and future. I luv my 1999 3000GT-SL

    I have always liked these ever since my neighbor got one. He took out the v6 though and put in a 4g63 from an evo and tuned it to 475whp... it also made it handle much better as it much lighter.

    Mitsubishi needs to stop playing around and bring those cars back before they go out of business just like Saab, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, AMC, and Saturn

    • @qx4n9e1xp
      @qx4n9e1xp 7 лет назад +4

      You're forgetting that companies going out of business isn't because they arent making good cars, it's because they aren't making a product that's producing satisfying sales numbers. The used car market is different than the new car market. Mitsubishi has gotta build what sells, hence, the new Eclipse CUV.

      no ones going to buy that dumb ass SUV

    • @letsroll2463
      @letsroll2463 7 лет назад +2

      they shouldve not let the evo be their top contender for their sports line, that was their biggest mistake. shouldve kept the eclipse and make it awd turbo especially with the 3.8 engines, or at least the 3k gt, they were too afraid it wouldve swept the evo under the rug.

    • @Death666wish
      @Death666wish 6 лет назад +1

      Pontiac died because it was owned by GM, they neutered so that it wouldn't compete with Chevy, the Banshee would've ruined the Corvette and the fantastic Firebird was just known to be a reskinned Camaro, the rest of the cars were stupid and I'm not sure but probably rebadged.

  • @rs3tuber425

    I remember seeing a VR4 Spyder inside the a shopping mall in San Antonio , TX and the car looked like a space ship. In 1999 I purchased a 91 Stealth R/T TT with blown turbos. These cars have a design flaw, the oil feed going to the turbos are tiny and the oil gets "cooked" and it turns solid and blocks the lubrication to the turbo center cartridges. Up to moderns times I am still impressed on the performance of these cars. Back in 2006 I purchased again another one, this time was the second gen(Phase 2) of the same car, it was a pearl white with fixed headlights lights, 6 speed and the 25 splint transmission(beefier). the car ran 13.6@103 in the 1/4 mile in Tucson and it put down and impressive 269 whp/299lb-tq to the wheel on a mustang dyno .

  • @thecreekhouse

    Thanks for the history. It's interesting to see more folk interested in this car as the years go by. I think it will be classic, but then I am biased. I have owned a 1999 stock, bright red - the only colour to have - Mk2 3000GT (TT UK spec) since 2005. I used it as my daily transport for years and it was super reliable. Nowadays it sits in the dry and gets used when the sun shines - which here in England is about once a week! It turns heads, from kids and grownups wherever you take it, always fires up first time and when it does it is impossible not to smile.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 лет назад

      I like that particular year 3000GT. I agree with you, it'll be a classic, especially if you keep it nice and clean since there will be fewer good examples as time goes by.

    It's nice to see some people still talking about these. I bought a new Stealth TT in 92 and owned it a few years before the evil ex made me sell it. Now years later and after divorce I have a 92 3000 GT vr4 with 73000 miles on it. Not as fast as modern muscle but still a very fun car to drive. What is not fun is keeping all that 90's hardware functioning. Not an easy car to work on!

    Both sweet cars. The '96 Stealth was the best IMO. The two rarest overall are the 3K VR4 Spyder and '96 RT TT. The '96 Stealth RT TT had a smaller lighter Z15A chassis because no rear steer unlike previous years, best looking rear spoiler and rear diffuser, black interior vs dark grey, ghost badges from the factory, only built for the USA vs Canada and USA vs entire globe for 3K GT, and only 57 Stealth RT TT units built in '96 which was the last production year making it one of the rarest cars ever made. I love the manual in the Stealth, on the cover it says "Imported for Dodge" or how the car says Dodge/Chrysler/Ram Head on steering wheel/mitsubishi everywhere else..this four auto brand mutt combination will never happen again in car world. Cool. I spent years searching and now have both '95 3K VR4 Spyder (Red) and '96 Stealth RT TT (white). Rad cars!!

  • @darkmatterm4a1
    @darkmatterm4a1 7 лет назад +6

    Great video, however, there are a few items that are inaccurate.
    All US-spec 3000GT VR-4s used the Z16A chassis. The only way you could get a Z15A chassis outside of Japan was on the 95-96 Stealth Turbo models. The only difference between the Z15A and the Z16A chassis is that the Z16A chassis accommodates All Wheel Steering(AWS), while the Z15A chassis does not.
    Additionally, looks like your model years are more inline with the Japanese spec GTO, rather than the US spec 3000GT. In the states, 1st generation cars were present between 91-93 model years(there is no 1990 3000GT, only GTO), 2nd generation cars were 94-98 and 3rd generation was 99 only.
    Finally, on 3000GTs, the SOHC engine was introduced in the 97 model year, while on the Stealth, it was available since the beginning.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 лет назад +2

      Good to know! There was a lot of (mis?)information for the 3000GT. They seem to either conflict or confirm. It was fairly difficult to find factual information because there were many little features and this car is already discontinued. Thanks for the feedback!

    • @fuzz7boy
      @fuzz7boy 4 года назад

      Agreed! So much of the confusion comes from calendar year versus model year statements. The first model year for both brands in the US was 1991, but they were available for sale starting in 1990.

    I am really enjoying your content Mr. GT Content! I remember the 3000GT's and Dodge Stealth's. Got to drive a good copy of the Stealth. I was actually extremely impressed at the time but know now that the engine bay layout is just a bad design. These things would over heat at the drop of a hat. The cylinder bank facing the driver would always end up Fing up from over heating.

    bad ass! only wish it was longer.....also pretty sure they made 2001 models but only very limited numbers n only relased in japan. Nissan & Mitsubishi will release a sport coupe in the future probably more eclipse type than 3kgtish..mabe even bring back the evo?

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 лет назад +1

      265308 I believe 2001 models were just 2000 leftovers. We'll have to wait and see if Mitsubishi will bring anything popular back at in the future. They've got bigger issues to deal with at the moment.

    • @265308
      @265308 7 лет назад +1

      left overs? well that explains why so few, but my point is the misconception that the 3kgt's stopped production with the desirable 1999 models with the huge Combat wing spoilers. There are 2000 n 2001 models that were only released in Japan.
      As for problems.... no problem sir Mitsu's auto department is only a fraction of their multi-billionaire franchise(WHICH REMINDS CHRYSLER IS BIGGER IN AUTO BUT NOT BIGGER AS A COMPANY NOT EVEN CLOSE). N besides NISSAN before was in worse condition before their iconic president took over and IT sure BET he will do same to Mitsu. Think GTR and EVO creators working together!

    Bought mine new! Poor customer service, I will never buy another MIts. They replaced my new Transmission with a rebuilt when a few years old instead fixing the leaking seal. Chinese parts inside instead of Getrag on rebuilt.Thus my synchro problems. Finally got it fixed years later by a non-Mitsu shop. But I still have my 98 VR4. 38,000 miles and still excites me every time I drive it! looks like new and has seen no winters. Tein suspension, bigger turbos and a few other things. A classic for sure.

      Donkeynero Not much of a history for that car as it is similar (or overshadowed) to the GTO/3000GT. I'll see what I can do. I've got some other ones in the backlog that's taking me more time than anticipated at the moment while also working full time.

    Good video but few things could of been added. Also the last photo of the Stealth 2nd Gen was an ugly SOHC/DOHC Base. You should of showed them the R/T TT Last Gen as well.

    Is this the history of the car in Japan? Or by production year? I remember the engine offerings being a little different than what you describe. Model years 1997-1999 base model 3000GT had SOHC. SL and VR-4 of those same years had the DOHC. ALL previous 3000GT models (base up through VR-4) prior to 1997 were DOHC. I know SOHC was offered in the Stealths of those years I just don't know what trim/years. Also, wouldn't the Mark 3 only be 1999? 1997 and 1998 had similar styling to 1994-1996 but with a slightly retooled front end and arch wing. There were also a few other minor items, if I remember right, like a manually removable glass sunroof on the SL trim 1994-1995 (and maybe earlier). That was changed to a power sliding (body colored metal) moonroof in 1996. I had a base 1994 in 2003 and then a white 1997 SL from 2004-2010. LOVED that car and had so much fun with it. Great video; more comprehensive than Donut Media's video. Thank you!

    Hi l have owned my GTO for 14years and have realy had loads of fun with it.A great car,eye catching shape, everything a boy racer could hope for, not bad considering l am in my 73year.there is one or two problems with the car, the active spoiler don't work anymore, and the rev counter packed in recently.Can anyone help with advice on these issues?

    Marked-2 was may favorite. Mark-1 was to endowed with technological gadgetry and the mark-3 was too ricer for my taste. This car still looks amazing. There's a driver in my neighborhood that has one with 19 inch Advan GT rims on 245/40 & 265/35 tires, with Brembo 4-piston front/rear BBK, dropped on Tein coilovers, painted Toyota pearl white, Recaro sits, with an upgraded turbo package. It gets the looks but no one knows what it is.
    I noticed that for your engine codes that you have the SOHC V6 listed the same as DOHC V6. Is that correct?

    If we (as car guys) buy more of their crossovers (which are pretty good btw) it might cause Mitsubishi to gain enough profits to develop something like this.

    Help Help Help !!
    Is there some way to check if one of these vehicles are truly VR-4 and not just fake?

    • @fuzz7boy
      @fuzz7boy 5 лет назад

      Hector:
      First, look look at the shifter. None of the VR-4s had an automatic, they were manual transmission ONLY.
      Second, look under the under the hood for twin turbos. While the VR-4s all had twin turbos, and the other models did not, turbos would be relatively easy to install on non-VR-4 models. However, no turbos means not a VR-4.
      Third, look underneath the chassis for All Wheel Drive (AWD). All VR-4 models had AWD, while non-VR-4 models did not. This would involve a different manual transmission (again, no automatics), and the addition of a transfer case, driveshaft and rear differential on a car that originally did not have these items. No AWD means not a VR-4.
      Fourth, look at the VIN. A VR-4 model would start with something like JA3**74, while a Stealth Twin Turbo (the Dodge version of the VR-4) would begin with JB3**74. The '74' is the key, as other models would have a different body code in the 6th and 7th position (44, 54, 64, 84). www.vincheckup.com/cars/mitsubishi/3000gt
