  • Our scouting journey continues with a writer we have scooped very randomly, as MOGHET ain’t got any IG page or similar but just his attitude that drags him around Rome's main streets. The playful approach in finding some precise spots where to place his sign on is what intrigued us so much about his game leading, together with his ability in make a tag fit in between pre-existent graphics or marks. A mix of elements that has nothing to do with the “go big or go home” statement, rather than the perfect ink mix-matching the surface’s color and following the writer’s aesthetic standards. Still, Grog also wants to offer alternatives amongst the most classic point of views, opening the viewers’ eyes to an ongoing movement that is continuously evolving under the name of tagging: over the last 15 years we have been subjected to the emerging of multiple styles - quite different from the older generations of tags, more devoted to the NY scene - in which tags become more destructured. The graphic sign takes on a different awareness in appropriating surfaces and spaces, turning sometimes into quick marks, other times into true graphic design compositions, as in gibberish letters born from the abstraction of forms, as an alien language.
Love it or hate it, it’s only by studying and observing, that we can appreciate the evolution of “legendary” writers who undertake and embrace new explorations on a daily basis, just as “newbies” also find a contemporary language to express and carry forward a value with the same fuel of those who deeply believe in the game.
