- So, I made the trip to Vandalia, Ohio on Wednesday with @JawTooth We had never been to this location before, but I can tell you that we will for sure be going back!
We met up with Buckeye Freight Railin` @GY51360 @LostDepot @SimonsEMDProductions and @AdventureswithJoeyBoats for a group railfan day. We had a great time to say the least.
There is a floodwall that runs parallel to the tracks and is about 15 feet or so high that gives you a nice overhead view of the trains. The CSX Toledo Sub is the line that runs through here. It`s the same line that goes through Glendale, Hamilton, Carlisle and Miamisburg South of here.
I give you a little overview of the lay of the land at the start of the video, then we get the action started.
Train number 1 is a Northbound CSX mixed manifest with FIVE leading locomotives! Then it is followed by another Northbound mixed manifest with 2 locomotives.
After that, we get a long Southbound CSX intermodal that is really moving!
Then along comes a very long Northbound mixed manifest that takes the passing siding and has to stop and wait for passing Southbound autorack.
I walked about a half mile up the tracks and got a long distance view of the autorack as it approaches me.
Once it passed, the stopped train started moving and headed on up the line.
All in all, we got 11 trains on this day, so this is part 1. I got more coming in the next couple of days so stay tuned!
Thanks for watching!
What a fantastic location to view all the trains. Grass getting greener and leaves unfurling on the trees. I could just put table and chairs out and spend the day. Brilliant video many thanks.
It's a great place for sure!
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains, I like them, @1960gambit, Scott, thank you very much.
You're welcome Ivan. Have a great weekend! 😁
@@1960gambit Thanks, and same to you too, Scott, I got the NS34, Geometry Unit, in a short video, for the 1st time in my life because I never got that one before.
I have some videos about Vandalia, Ohio, and we love that place, @1960gambit.
@@the-terrible63 That`s very cool Ivan! Good job!
@@1960gambit Thanks, Scott.
A fantastic CSX mixed manifest to start with! I love the new CN box car. Great catch, Scott!! 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Another good’ern. Thanks Scott!👍🏼
Thanks Jimmy!
That is indeed a beautiful spot to film, Scott! 😊😊❤❤
It really is. I`ll be back there real soon!
Tornado went about 14 miles north of me, last night....The bridge over the tracks is US Rt 40, National Trail Road...Flood wall is part of the Dam at that site..Taylorsville? I was just over that road...on the way to visit the "Better Half" at my Daughter's place in Dayton, OH...
Yes it's Taylorsville. That is a great place to catch trains. I'll be back there again soon.
Thank you so much for this video Scott. Talk about a spectacular way to start my Saturday morning!!! I'd love to visit this spot. It looks just about perfect! Thanks again!!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
It`s a fantastic location. We will be going back soon!
Glad you went there Before the Tornadoes….
Yeah, they weren't real far North of this location. Those folks got hit hard unfortunately.
Good Friday morning Scott, enjoying the video with a hot cup of coffee and a late breakfast. I like the new location, be safe and have a great weekend 🙏🏻.
Thanks Bill, have a great weekend!
Oh cool, you went to Taylorsville park! When I lived in the Dayton area I came here quite a bit. I loved railfanning that spot. Glad to see you made it up there.
Thanks! It's a great place, no doubt about it!
Fantastic video location! The view is amazing! Thank you Scott for another great video 😊
You're welcome Wayne, thanks for watching!
Some great action at a cool location. Thanks for hiking to get the train meet. Enjoyed this a lot, thanks Scott!
Thanks P. This is a great place, no doubt about it!
I really enjoyed this video Scott ,1960 Gambit. Plenty of action!
Man, yeah, really cool spot for railfanning. Beautiful day, with lots of action for y'all. Great camera work, too, Gambit. And you called it right .. the Northbound that snuck up on y'all DID stop on the siding. While I have somewhat of an idea how trains are made up, it baffles me how a boxcar ends up in the middle of a mile long autorack train. Great vid, Thanks for taking us along.
You're very welcome Kenneth!
That box car had auto parts in it
@@timmyfrierson2684 That makes sense .. thanks.
Awesome location! I can see fantastic catches there all four seasons! Great video Scott and have a nice weekend!
🚂🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thanks Jim. Yep, this spot is only 6 miles further from my house than Walton, Ky is. I was very surprised by that considering it is North of Dayton!
Good made video, mr 1960 Gambit.
Wow, what is this a perfect place to watch trains. In the summer here under the trees and the sun op the trains that passing you. That is🚆🚆👍👍👍👌.
Wish you there a nice weekend.
Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
It's a wonderful place for train watching. I'll be back there again soon!
Great new location Scott! I lived a mile or so South of US40 a good amount of my time in Indiana. Spent some time in Dayton back then too. Interesting trains on this one. I enjoyed it. Love the banjo. ❤
Thanks Margie! I really love this spot. I'll be going back for sure!
The I141 was a nice fast, long intermodal tha
And some fine looking slabs of plate steel they were, Scott! I couldn't tell what the first car of steel was, but it was a nice length, too. Right on top of the bank would be a fabulous place to put a recliner so you could film in style. 😅 I also like the big string of box cars. This was a fabulous train, Scott! I believe it was close to 180 cars. It's hard to tell with the auto rack train interrupting but another excellent catch! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Gary!
@@1960gambit Absolutely!
Nice spring day ! Kool c.n box car and SD s . Thx Scott great location
You're welcome Kim!
Hey Scott! You guys found a great spot to get good videos.
Yes, this is a fantastic spot. I'll be back there again soon!
This was really awesome video!!!!😊😊😊😊
You definitely need to come back!
Great railfan spot for some great train videos!
4 thumbs up 😅
🤘🏼😎
Thank you very much Inferno! Yes, I will definitely be going back there real soon. It`s an awesome location!
You all were in my neck of the woods , I live due West of Dayton ,town of New Lebanon! I was born and raised in Dayton.
That`s cool.! I`m sure we are going to be back up there again before too long. That is a very good spot for train watching!
Seen 4 trains yesterday Thursday I got thrown out of the NS engine home made cookies it was a good friend I knew for years
That's really cool of him to do that! 😁
Another awesome video Scott, and you right man that is a fine place to go rail fanning at, because in between trains, y’all can lay down on that luscious green grass and don’t have to stand up. That is a nice place because y’all up on that Levee and y’all can see both trains when one is on the siding, but anyway, my friend y’all stay safe out there and watch y’all back and we’ll see you on the next one brother.
Yes Scott that’s definitely better than Glendale and Hamilton because the trains go so slow through those towns and out there you got the sidetracked and the main so you gonna catch the same trains that goes through those towns but out there they’re highballing, so yeah I think y’all made a good choice
Yep, we are going to be going back there a bunch. Its a great place and it's only about 6 miles further from my house than Walton, Kentucky.
That is a great location.
Thanks Joker! I am going back real soon.
Nice 🙂
Thanks Tim! 😁
That clearing is nice! I may have to take the long journey up to that curve at some point when I'm in Vandalia!
You should!
That is a great spot and great video. Bet it's beautiful in the summer and fall. Hope you all avoided the nasty weather out there yesterday. ❤
It is a great spot that I will be going back to soon. We are all good as far as the tornado is concerned. My heart breaks for those folks that got hammered hard less than an hour from this location. The damage is just unbelievable.
@@1960gambit been that kind of spring already. Third time with tornado sirens already. Stay safe my friend.
Absolutely loved this video. I heard you guys had a great time there. Some of my old stomping grounds. .Catfished off that dam wall night until dawn a thousand times three or four decades ago. Loved the video. Great place!
Thans Jeff. Yes, we had a great day. There were 6 of us there getting the trains.
You were talking about the cliff over the tracks, there is a park up in that area that you can drive through. I don't know how close to that edge it comes though.
Wow! Thanks for the info!
Awesome. You know i like sidings. By the way the New Castle line goes to Ft Wayne . But trains can still be routed to go to Elkhart
This is just above Dayton. I will be back there again real soon!
that first one had a road slug running number 4!! that bridge, it says over water to me not rail line!! you know Scott all the conrail stock we see still moving makes me wonder where all the chessie is most of that is the same age or younger we should be seeing more of it than we do!
I agree. I have often wondered where the Chessie stuff is myself. You would think there would be a bunch left too.
@@1960gambit yeah my thinking on it even if there was only half as much chessie stock we'd still be seeing more than we do the only explanation i can think of is cheapskate repainted it all when the turn over happened!
Cool Video!
Thanks Dennis!
Great video Scott ill be done with my trade school on the 28th this month weather permitting I'm now working the front end loader.
That`s great news Carlos! Good for you, I`m glad to hear it!
@@1960gambit thanks maybe you can give me a shout out on your channel when I'm done🙂
Nice Catches
Thanks Hunter, have a great weekend!
Great video, Scott. Did you all get any of that Severe weather with tornadoes in your area? The severe weather is suppose to pass thru here today(Friday). Our highs are in the low 80's and had to cut on Air conditioner yesterday, high got up to 83 degrees and inside of my house it was 82 degrees, a bit warm. Also my friend Have a good weekend.
The severe stuff went North of us. It was bad. As of right now there have been 3 confirmed dead at Indian Lake. They got steam rolled by the tornado. Truly a shame for those folks.
Truly sad for Ohio and other regions. In our area we get both Tornadoes and hurricanes during summer and fall sometimes both together during hurricane season. We are only 100 miles inland from the ocean. Stay safe my Friend and I will keep you and your friends of Southern Ohio, in my prayers, God Bless you, Scott and family.@@1960gambit
@@revharrycwigmoreiii5787 Thanks Rev!
Stay dry… yikes and we should hit almost 70 this weekend but back to 20s next week 😂
Yes, we are cooling off too for the next couple of weeks. I'm ready for Spring!
Can you catch some from the bridge
It's not advisable. No sidewalk and very narrow. You would likely be hit by a car.
