The tap needs replacing, if it's really bothering you there should be a screw somewhere before the tap on the pipework, turn that 90 degrees and that should stop the water
Another good video Emma, and perfect for us we've just been down to our new allotment and found loads of those eggs, but now you confirmed snail eggs im going back tomorrow and collecting them all so thanks for highlighting that. If you put a couple of nice long screws 60mn long through the bird feed platform into that tree stump Einstein will have a permanent stable feeding area 😊
There is bound to be a water meter on the property which will have a tap controlling the water to the allotment. Just turn it off until your tap is repaired.
Emma, you can have stuff growing overwinter in your beds. A good thing to grow, and to add nutrients into the soil are phacelia, mustard greens and field beans. At the end of winter you just chop and drop and the root action and all the top growth improve the soil condition and fertility. Hope that gives you some ideas for next Autumn. Happy growing 🙂
Emma, there is a tool you can get thats great for skimming through the top of your soil and it cuts the roots off the weeds and they die in place. It is just a metal hoop on a handle. the edges are sharpish, as you might expect.. maybe take a look and see. it just takes a couple of minutes to do an entire bed like you have there. might be worth a try.
I suggest to just hire a mini rotavater for greenhouse area, there as cheep as chips and you'll get it all done within a hour or 2,,,as for the broken water tap, leave it cos it's not your property to be messing with,,,, I'm saying this as I'm on my allotment committee,,,and yiu could get in alot of trouble, leave it to them who have the power ,,,
It's possible to get a freezing spray which can be used to freeze the pipe leading up to the tap. once the pipe is frozen you can then unscrew the damaged tap and replace it with a new one.
Attach a length of hose to both taps, put the ends of the hose into the tank and open the tap. Also with Einstein's bird table, lose the wood and drill some wide shallow holes in the top of the trunk, the mealworms can sit in the holes then, Einstein will find them. Great videos keep up the good work
Hiya Emma, enjoyed a visit across the pond. Thinking Einstein was to busy chatting with others while you were trying to feed by hand I believe he will one day soon blessings Luv Ontario Canada Thankyou 🐝🇨🇦👋🏻
Might be a good idea to put chicken wire down (to stop rodents) and cover with weed membrane for green house. You can get black plastic square foot interlock panels for a strong base for greenhouse (Shaun James Cameron on YT did this on his summerhouse build.. shingle can be used on top for a strong floor area.
Emma I wonder if a thick layer like 4to6 inches of gravel or sand under the greenhouse might be an idea for drainage. Has anyone ever done anything like that?
Nice and rats will just walk straight into the greenhouse without a more solid floor or a barrier dug I to the ground (say, foundations and a single run of concrete blocks but that requires more effort and skill but imo is doable by an amatuer)
On our allotment we must report any leaks to the council immediately according to the long rule book. It’s such a shame that you have reported it promptly and it’s not been fixed
i still think its amazing you fixed that pipe to an extent with that hammer emma ! so funny at least its going back in tho! hope your having a good start to the yearx
@emmasallotmentdiaries I live in jersey. Had to wait 7 years for the plot. All sheds have to be brown. Can't have greenhouses. Something to do with who owns the land ,not even a poll tunnel :(. I'm going to see if I can change that as I've managed to get self on the committee ha ha
My husband isn’t allowed a greenhouse on his plot either. Some plots have sheds (he’s lucky his does), but apart from that no structures over 2 metres tall, no polytunnels and no greenhouses. I start all the seedlings off in my greenhouse at home.
Don’t listen to the haters and ‘critics’ about your book Emma! We know you’re doing it for the right reasons and I’ll definitely be buying a copy!❤
Ah thank you so much! xx
comedic level of this episode top notch! Keep this up for the next 4 years. Please.
10:36 water's in the fork because you have left it outside and they get water inside, I've had it happen to me too.
Well done love your vologs

Einstein is really stretching the old vocal cords out there at the end of the video! 😂❤
Adore your vlogs and humor! Excited for the book!!! 📚🎉🎉🎉🎉
Let the council do the repairs. You tried now, let's garden! 😊
Your efforts to repair the tap have been very amusing, good effort though, that’s more than the council have done. 😊

Yes!! Get rid of them now before they hatch! Baby slugs are so difficult to protect against. And thanks for the tip, I'll do this! x

Hi Emma I only do RUclips! I love your videos keep them coming lv Irene 😘 xx
They always turn the water off at my allotment during the winter so that this doesn’t happen.
Same on mine

Emma using a rotovator, what could possibly go wrong? 😂
😅@@MarianWalsh-vz9fy
@@MarianWalsh-vz9fy oh perhaps she can try with supervision or just watch lol does make me a bit concerned truly. 🐝🇨🇦👋🏻

i think you can rent a rotavator for that area where you want it leveling
Thats a great idea! x
I agree with you a spade work much better to get the roots out

There is tape I'm unsure of the name but it's ment to put around threads that water run through I wonder if that would help as a temporary fix
❤
I think we all need to move on from the water tap 😂 I applaud you for trying though 👍🏻
Thank you !
if you want a fix for the tap Flomasta Brass Outdoor tap
Sold & shipped by B&Q £8.92 and unlike that tap its brass so its fine in winter
Maybe add plumbers tape to your new pipe section. The pipe has helped to reduce the pressure of the leak coming out so the tape might now hold.

I fand the spade is butter to you can get under the roots with it
Aww bless you, you’ve had quite the day 😅❤
Best to cultivate when the soil is dry
Love your videos 😊
"Why would that be a feature?" 😂
Never change, Emma. You're hilarious. ❤
No Emma the tap doesn’t need to be plugged, a new tap is needed
Great video!!
Maybe contact Thames Water , I’m sure they’d be interested in a leak.
Emma I wonder if a thick layer like 4to6 inches of gravel or sand under the greenhouse might be an idea for drainage. Has anyone ever done anything like that?
Do you have to pay for the water? If the bill goes up then you may have to pay more? Is there a stopcock for the water to turn it off?
Emma
If you are going to place a greenhouse on that area why dig it up? Just put plastic on the floor or even gravel on top of the plastic.
Nice and rats will just walk straight into the greenhouse without a more solid floor or a barrier dug I to the ground (say, foundations and a single run of concrete blocks but that requires more effort and skill but imo is doable by an amatuer)
Don’t use a fork… to dig….you’ll bend the prongs👍🏻👍🏻
your plumbing skills are amazing do you fit centrol heating is there a ball cock you could tie up to stop water leak
There is a ball cock yes! What do I do with it? Take it out the water or push it in more??
@@emmasallotmentdiaries lift it up and tie it of
If you manage to get it over the split it will leak from both ends
Where do you get the blue piping from and what is it called tks
It's MDPE mains water pipe available from Screwfix etc
Hi just report to the council about the water pipe .
Have done! Twice! x
Your site reps or allotment staff at the local council will fix it, the water company is only concerned before the meter!
Need a new tap

I'm actually having a terrible start to the year, but the allotment is keeping me going! Haha! Roll on the spring I say! xx
@ definately springs on the way and hopefully more blue skies x
❤❤❤❤
You could have held your feet under the dripping tap to clean your boots 😆🚿
Haha! Why did I not think of that?!! x
Wrap tape around tap
Rubber bands or melt a pipe around it 🤷🏻♀️
Wish we could have a greenhouse. Not allowed on our plot
What?! Why not?! X

@clarehartland150 its a shame because many people who want allotments don't have the garden or space at home to grow. And bring on seeds.
Guess it's the way some run I suppose. I'm so glad I have my shed
Nematodes will sort the slug issues out
I'm doing this in the spring time!! x
It is because you leave your tools outside all the time.
Hi, my greenhouse is on flags lot easier..
"How hard can plumbing be? Lots of people are plumbers." Wow, that's pretty insulting. Lots of people are brain surgeons too.😂😂😂
Just add some goldfish in your new unique pond .
