The technique of the Waltz Natural Turn, is available in a reputable dance text book. Typically, a Basic Waltz Turn, (3/4 time), has the feet closed, at the end of the bar, [1] step - [2] side - [3] close, whereas the Rotary Chasse, (4/4 time), has the feet apart at the end of the bar, [1] side - [2] close - [3 4] step. The 'safest' path, is to go with standard technique, it has stood the test of time. In standard technique, we use, either a Rotary Waltz (3/4), or, a Rotary Chasse (4/4).

Point taken. I should have waited at least a week. Just not my style. All correspondence is processed promptly. I get emails from other dancers regularly, and I always reply ASAP. I am always ready to correspond via email. Possibly, this forum is not so suitable for lengthy discussions on technique?

The Rotary Waltz is correct, (Australian New Vogue), give or take a bit for personal interpretation. Inconsistency is human, and knowing where, and how, to be successfully inconsistent, is what makes one performer greater than another. Carefully selecting what is important, and giving what is important more emphasis over what is less important, brings a dance to life. In music, Baroque was replaced by Classical. Same principle.

I think it's supposed to be a natural waltz to finish the sequence. It looks more like a rotary chasse waltz here.

Unfortunately the man is not consistant with his rotary waltz. Some bars have only two steps and a pivot. It is such a common sight on dance floors. I wish I could teach men to do 3/4 rotary waltz endings correctly!

I did not say the Rotary Waltz was not correct. I said it was inconsistant, and it is, hence the earlier comment from Peter who thought it looked like "rotary chasse waltz", whatever that is? Yes, they are probably two of your very good students, but don't be so quick to come back with your kind put-down of those who go to the trouble of accepting your invitation for comment..
