@@FlorenceOzkan Yeah, I was suprised to hear that actually when you mentioned it in your video! I didn't realise it could be propagated that way! they look so fragile! Thank you!
I absolutely love the size of your Oxalis and I would very much like to get mine to the same stage also, the trouble with mine is the stems - I have about 15 stems (along with purple petals) in a pot and the stems just look lifeless, they don't stand upright like yours, what is the trick to get them to stand up?
As the summer draws to a close the stems do tend to droop as they're getting ready to go into dormancy. The more light the better, rotate the pot every time you water and maybe open the window or get a fan on them to strengthen them up a bit. Mine did not look like this last year, but allowing it to go dormant I think is the trick to get them to beef out next year.
ive got onw of these guys, thinking ill need to repot to a better draining soil, and up the watering and light, its growing fine but for sure very leggy and bare looking. for sure need to encourage some more growth. tho i didnt know they needed to go to sleep, ive missed that period now, but now that im aware ill have to cut it back and maybe place it in the hall closet (weirdly it has a small window but stays very cold)
You might get away with just chopping back if it’s only just coming into summer growing season where you’re based, but I’d be wary of repotting if you’re fully in growing season, obviously up to you. They’re tough little plants!
I bought mine as bulbs 4 weeks agoand for 2 weeks nothing happened. Then hey presto I moved then to my bedroom on a shelf above a radiator, they have shot up and point towards my double doors of my conservetory. My question is will they not go dormant if I keep them in this position during the winter? I have noticed now that once they get about 6 inches tall they then lean over and a new shoot appears at the base of each of the leaning stem. I am totally won over by them. Thank so mudh for introducing me to them.
They might do, they might now! But as they’ve only just woken up they might go dormant a bit later than usual. So glad you’ve found a love for these beautiful plants
Did you say that you cut all.of yours back? So there's nothing? And you leave it till it wakes up in spring? If I've been under watering should I sort the watering before cutting back? I'm in Scotland and had my small plant at a north facing window which I realise isn't the best place for it now. There's maybe about 15 stems and leggy
I do! I’d pull back on watering now and let it go dormant, next spring it’ll come alive and hopefully bigger! If your plant only has 15 stems then I’d leave them until they’re dry and crispy until you cut it back so that way all the energy can go back into the corns. Hope that helps!
I have been growing these successfully for a few years now, regularly dividing and giving away. I always grow them outdoors and overwinter them in a cold greenhouse. In recent weeks two massive ones have succumbed to a fungus and completely collapsed and I think there is no alternative than to bin them and start again. I guess they are probably not so susceptible to this when grown in doors.
Hey @Florence Ozkan , thanks for making this great video. I love this plant personally. One note- at 7:15 the oxalis triangularis is not edible. It is toxic for house pets like dogs and cats. Please do not eat it and be please careful when making edible recommendations. Otherwise great job!
Floss Little Flat After searching high and low for this plant at local nurseries and big box stores with no luck I ordered some bulbs. I’m excited to see how this goes but you are giving me major motivation and a wealth of useful information. Thank you!
@@FlorenceOzkan ... just dipping in on this conversation. You said rinse them... and water their soil with slightly warm water. Do tell me more about this! I don't believe I've ever watered mine with slightly warm water.
WOW WOW WOW.... I want my one like this...... PLZ plz plz give me step by step your techniques to grow this beauty like this wonderful. Salute to u. Love.
I think I say in the video: planted in March. I started off with only a handful of bulbs last year and accidentally broke some when digging them up so ended up with some more than that but obviously smaller. They tend to look a bit tired after a six months or so, but you can chop the leaves down and start again if you like
I've had my Oxalis for about 4 years, wishes I had found your video previously... o took some advice from a UK Gardening F/B page (after asking advice) and someone said you can't overwater an Oxalis.... currently mine is entering it's dormant period, I think I've overwatered her... she is looking really poor, I have her on my kitchen window, and have loads of leaf burn and bulb rot, I'm hoping with your advice I can revive my beautiful Oxalis. I have just bought some new varieties (2) from Farmer Gracy (excellent bulb co.) can you mix the bulbs at all to get different colours in one pot? Or does each species prefer its own company ❤
Ive had mine now for a couple years . I never paid attention to it much other than to water it . Its now winter in jan. Should I cut it off and put it away now even if it doest appear to be dyeing back ? Mine looks close to yours when you first got it . What should I do now to get it to grow bigger like your
Thanks for this helpful video. I have masses of Oxalis triangular is, which I let go dormant this year for the first time. Now I am repotting and refreshing the soil. Can you tell me what you think is the BEST DEPTH to have the bulbs? I Feel they do better planted reasonably deep (about 6” or more) but I would like to make a spectacular display in containers like Victorian serving bowls, which are not as deep as flower pots, and would mean they are not in removable plastic pos, but straight into the China. What do you think? Thanks - my name is Sarah!
You're welcome! I normally plant them around 3-6 inches deep. Just make sure that if you water heavily the bulbs won't rise out of the soil! You could always try the china serving bowls with a corn or two and that way if it works you can repot more into them next year!
Guessing you are no longer active on here but will try anyway. I have had my oxalis 3 years and it seems happy. Dies back each year and comes again but never really gets any bigger. I feed occasionally. I want a big healthy plant like yours. The only thing I think it may be is that my house it quite a cold house and it is in a nw facing window. Could that be the reason ?
I was unaware that this type of plant dad's off in the winter I think I bought mine around January and it's now April. I have lost about half of the plant because of the stems drying up and me having to pluck them away. at first I had to realize that too much sun for this plant will damage the delicate leaves so some of the die-off may have been due to that. I'm just not sure what to do at this point to get it to thrive I think I'm going to have to try some fertilizer water like you did otherwise if it doesn't do well I may have to go in and find the bulbs and start over if anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate it. one thing I have noticed as well is that it does better with less watering if I overwatered it all the leaves would droop down but when I let it dry out and not water it as much the leaves per cup it also seems to do better in a shady place in my home
Hi, amazing. I've just bought this plant it's now in a 6inch plastic pot. Do I keep in this and when do I need to repot into bigger one. Thanks for any advice as I'm just getting started with my house plant collection. 😊
I’d keep it in the same pot as it’s in now- the shock of repotting tends to send them into dormancy. If you don’t like the pot it’s currently in try a cover pot and at the beginning of spring next year when it’s due to come out of dormancy, repot then. Hope that helps!
thank you for this info. I acquired a plant that looks like this from my Mom this week. It was outside so I think it got too cold. The leaves are mostly green with a little purplish on the back side of the leaves. They have the same small lavender flowers. Can you tell me why they are green and not purple? The plant does not look healthy so I am hoping that once I follow your input for lighting and watering it will become more healthy. thanks
You’re welcome! It’ll be a great addition to your home. So in answer to your question, there are many different types of oxalis so you have two options: 1: your oxalis is a more green variety with purple undersides to the leaves 2: from the move and cold weather it has gone into shock and might be going into dormancy, in which case a lot of the nutrients are being pulled from the leaves and back to the corns. This causes a green/yellow colouration on the leaves and I believe this could be the case. If it goes dormant, leave it for a month or so before trying to wake it up and just make sure to fertilise in the growing period. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
Hey, there! I was searching the internet tonight for information to help me understand why my oxalis grows with long and lanky, winding stems. It is indoors and most of our office plants seem to love the light in the office which we leave on 24/7. She's called "charmed wine" Oxalis and looks exactly like yours. I've had her for a year and unfortunately she didn't fair too well when I tried to divide her in two when I first purchased her. She's had some good and bad days, but overall, I think she's simply struggled. I've not seen her put out a pretty flower in almost a year now... despite adding the fertilizer sticks. Last week, I decided to cut her back to just three of her strongest stems/leaves and she's already put out about 10 stems/leaves, but again... no flowers to be seen. Any advise is appreciated! Thank you! j'lynn
The later in the growing season the longer they will get. I’d try to give it direct natural sun rather than grow lights and maybe try to put a fan in the room (close by) to strengthen the stems
@@FlorenceOzkan hello! me again... I did exactly as you recommended and took mine into a window and she's gone from a wimpy 10 stems/leaves... to well over 30 and I have seen my first flower in over a year. Thanks for your help!!! I'm so glad I ran across your video. in Appreciation, j'lynn
Great informative video thank you, and such a beautiful large plant! I just got a plant from my mom, it is a Schefflera tree and it has these purple oxalis growing inside the pot as well. I repotted into a larger pot and found a lot of these bulbs stuck tightly in its root system. IS it ok to keep them together in the pot? Or will they multiply quickly and take over all the space in the new pot and leave no space for the roots of the tree to grow? The tree repotting has been long overdue. I am worried I wont be able to actually take out these bulbs due to them being so prominent and stuck within the tight tree ball. I really appreciate any help as I have been looking around for an answer but have been unable to find it.
The oxalis roots are super thin and hair like, the corns obviously multiply and therefore take up space but I really wouldn’t worry! There are lots of plants that can be used as under planters. Check out ‘Legends of Monstera, Collector-Seller Series’ here on RUclips, if I remember correctly they have some beautiful examples of underplanting in pots! My mum also underplants using oxalis, tradescantia, sedum and other smaller plants in larger plants soil, so I honestly think it’s fine! The only thing I would say if you’re wanting to get rid of the oxalis from your schefflera pot is to unpot, remove as much soil as possible- you can be fairly rough with the roots- and get them out that way!
Oh great! To be honest I’ve never had any pest problems but I think it you were to spray and it deteriorated, you can always chop down all the foliage and wait for new growth!
@@FlorenceOzkan Thanks Floss, I planted 15 bulbs in a 20 inch pot, they started sprouting after 10 days. I love watching the progression each day, so magical. Thanks x
@@FlorenceOzkan hello again, I potted those oxalis leaves and they've take, so happy. I know it's coming to the end of season now, do I over winter them as I do the main plant by letting the leaves die back then keep in dark place?
Thank you for this very helpful video-I understood that this plant is toxic to pets though it is edible. Is my understanding correct? Do you know if it is toxic to wildlife?
You’re welcome! So in large quantities it is toxic to cats, dogs and horses because of its soluble calcium oxalates. From what I’ve read the bitter taste will put animals off and therefore if they munch on one leaf they should be fine but if they eat the whole plant in one sitting then you’ve got something to worry about. These are safe to ingest in small quantities for humans (hence using them as garnish for salads) but again if eaten in huge quantities you might struggle with symptoms.
I would wait until it goes dormant or cut the stems down and wait a few days (not watering during this time). They might go into too much shock and go dormant if you pull them up and divide them whilst they’re still growing
OMG WHICH ARE THE NAMES OF THE ONES THAT ARE IN THE WHITE POT (the white with a green border and also the white with pink veins? Sorry, I’m new and learning how to take care of flowers so idk much yet ;-;

Omg she’s so big! Mine is so tiny & new. I love her. I’m scared 😮 I won’t do her right but that’s why I’m here
Very helpful presentation and great delivery. I love your houseplant collection behind.
Thank you 😊 you can see the collection behind in my tour if you want to see more 🌱
I absolutely love the size of your Oxalis and I would very much like to get mine to the same stage also, the trouble with mine is the stems - I have about 15 stems (along with purple petals) in a pot and the stems just look lifeless, they don't stand upright like yours, what is the trick to get them to stand up?
As the summer draws to a close the stems do tend to droop as they're getting ready to go into dormancy. The more light the better, rotate the pot every time you water and maybe open the window or get a fan on them to strengthen them up a bit. Mine did not look like this last year, but allowing it to go dormant I think is the trick to get them to beef out next year.
they are absolutely beautiful
Hello Rollande
ive got onw of these guys, thinking ill need to repot to a better draining soil, and up the watering and light, its growing fine but for sure very leggy and bare looking. for sure need to encourage some more growth. tho i didnt know they needed to go to sleep, ive missed that period now, but now that im aware ill have to cut it back and maybe place it in the hall closet (weirdly it has a small window but stays very cold)
All your plants are gorgeous. 🥰
Hello Heather
Nice bush!! Lol, come on you new that was coming before you shot the video im sure.😅 But seriously very nice plant that was in the beginning.
I’ve not struggled with fungus personally, but wonder whether taking out the bulbs and storing them for a few months might help?
Stunning plant! Do you water when the plant goes dormant?
No, leave it dry until spring!
I wish mine was this full!
I have major plant 🌱 envy after watching this! 😂💜
If you’ve got a small oxalis, give it a year and it’ll be the same size as mine!
Floss Little Flat After searching high and low for this plant at local nurseries and big box stores with no luck I ordered some bulbs. I’m excited to see how this goes but you are giving me major motivation and a wealth of useful information. Thank you!
You’ll do great! Just rinse them in slightly warm water and water their soil with the same before planting 🙂 let me know how you get on!
Floss Little Flat 🙌🏾🙌🏾 thank you I most definitely will 😁
@@FlorenceOzkan ... just dipping in on this conversation. You said rinse them... and water their soil with slightly warm water. Do tell me more about this! I don't believe I've ever watered mine with slightly warm water.
Beautiful triangular thanks for sharing
Thank you! You're welcome!
WOW WOW WOW.... I want my one like this...... PLZ plz plz give me step by step your techniques to grow this beauty like this wonderful. Salute to u. Love.
😂 all of the techniques that have worked for me I’ve listed in the video!
@@FlorenceOzkan How many bulbs u put? And which month to which month it become like this?
I think I say in the video: planted in March. I started off with only a handful of bulbs last year and accidentally broke some when digging them up so ended up with some more than that but obviously smaller. They tend to look a bit tired after a six months or so, but you can chop the leaves down and start again if you like
This was brilliant Florence, thanks so much!
Glad it could help!
What should I do now to get it to grow bigger like your
You can force dormancy if you think it’ll help!
Hey Renee
Long time, reply me with an email
I have one of those purple shamrock beautiful plant i lovely it😎😎♥♥🌹🌹
Happy 1k subscribers.
Thank you so much!
Seu oxalis está maravilhoso, me diz como vc consegue deixá-lo dessa forma?
What else would I do to it?
Guessing you are no longer active on here but will try anyway. I have had my oxalis 3 years and it seems happy. Dies back each year and comes again but never really gets any bigger. I feed occasionally. I want a big healthy plant like yours. The only thing I think it may be is that my house it quite a cold house and it is in a nw facing window. Could that be the reason ?
I think it’s probably not performing it’s best because it sounds like it needs brighter light, more warmth and feed
Nice presentation...beautiful plant...my favorite 🍁🍁🌸
Thank you! Hope you found it useful 🌱
An excellent video, thanks. Do you think they would grow outside in a rockery? (In the south of England).
Thank you 🙂 I'm not actually sure, I know people grow them outside in warmer climates but I'm definitely going to give it a go when we get a garden!
@@FlorenceOzkan thank you so much x
How big was your pot when you bought it? and how big is the pot in the video?
Have you ever tried eating the tubers.
I haven’t! I don’t want to waste growth 😂
thank you for this info.
So in answer to your question, there are many different types of oxalis so you have two options:
1: your oxalis is a more green variety with purple undersides to the leaves
2: from the move and cold weather it has gone into shock and might be going into dormancy, in which case a lot of the nutrients are being pulled from the leaves and back to the corns. This causes a green/yellow colouration on the leaves and I believe this could be the case.
If it goes dormant, leave it for a month or so before trying to wake it up and just make sure to fertilise in the growing period. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
My plant is dropping over the edges of the pot in stead of standing up,do you think I need a taller pot,and how much water should I give it
This doesn’t always mean the plant is unhappy, some leaves do drop over time!
That’s such great news! Happy I could help and you’ve seen some flowers!
So helpful! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Keep ours on window sill all year round and , never put fertiliser on it and it has been growing for years .
Hello! Just bought one of this today. How do i disinfect the plant? Will it wilt if i spray neem oil all over? Thank you! Love your videos!
Oh great! To be honest I’ve never had any pest problems but I think it you were to spray and it deteriorated, you can always chop down all the foliage and wait for new growth!
Wow! beautifulfly plants like you.very nice!
Thank you!
Does the Oxalis also go dormant if grown in tropical climates?
Unfortunately I'm not sure- you might have to force dormancy if you feel it's needed!
Great info, thank you!
You’re welcome! I hope it was useful!
Yeah you are right , great info ......by the way nice meeting you on here I hope you are having a wonderful time out there?????????
Thats massive, love it, how many bulbs have you planted in the pot?
I think it started out with around 7-14 corns.. I can't actually remember!
@@FlorenceOzkan Thanks Floss, I planted 15 bulbs in a 20 inch pot, they started sprouting after 10 days. I love watching the progression each day, so magical. Thanks x
Hi, I've propergate a few oxalis leaves and they have got roots. When do I need to pot these please. Thanks in advance x
If the roots are about 2-3cm and bushy you should be good to plant!
@@FlorenceOzkan great, thanks your help and advice 👍😊
Is it ok if i keep it inside and not make it go dorment? I want to enjoy these all year long !
You can try! Sometimes it’s better for the plant if it goes dormant as it can just look tired all year round!
How do I get a rooting of your varigated monsteria?
Hello
Do you recommend watering from top or standing in water so it can take water up itself? Does it like being mister?
I recommend watering from the top so water can run through, whereas bottom watering these might cause the soil to stay too wet and rot the corns!
Also no to misting 🙂
Hello Anthea
Should water it from the top or bottom?
for a pot about that size how many bulbs should I put in? I have 4 bulbs. does one bulb grow a plant that size?
I’d put all 4 bulbs in one pot- they’ll multiply and grow over the growing season!
Thanks
Thank you.
My shamrock plant was growing in a pot with a mother in law tongue so I separated it now it’s struggling to open and close properly what show I do ?
Hi! my oxalis is not dormant yet, can I divide it by stems now? Thank you!!
I would wait until it goes dormant or cut the stems down and wait a few days (not watering during this time). They might go into too much shock and go dormant if you pull them up and divide them whilst they’re still growing
Hi Tamara
Long time no see

OMG WHICH ARE THE NAMES OF THE ONES THAT ARE IN THE WHITE POT (the white with a green border and also the white with pink veins? Sorry, I’m new and learning how to take care of flowers so idk much yet ;-;
