  • In this episode we get into the sea trials of Zig Zag. We have spent so long building her that we don't want to rush through the test phase. The sea trials are a critical part of the boat building process. We need to test out everything that we have built and make sure we can rely on Zig Zag when conditions become more challenging. We've been taking it slow and starting easy, sailing on light wind days at first and building up to stronger and stronger winds. We have been making small adjustments to the rigging and various other parts of the boat, I will talk about all that in the next episode where we will take you through the technical boat tour. For now I hope you enjoy this little video about our first few sails on our brand new Tiki 30, ‘Zig Zag’

Wishing You All the best from Oz. Best looking happiest wharram i can recall, and those dogs are too cute, absolute snuggle monsters 😊.
P.s. boat looks very well built, and plenty of clever, practical, durable and simple implementations. You are obviously so proud, cheers 🍻

Congratulations! I can't believe you have 3 jibs, that's fantastic, looking forward to see y'all wrap your head around sailing her. Also, 0:38 James Wharram would LOVE this shot :P. Keep them coming but don't stress out about creating content, enjoy the life first!
Almost forgot, I'd love to see how you take a reef on your gaff rig.

We have three jibs and they all have one reef point. We are almost ready to sail off to St. Martin.

That paint-job is so West Indian, love it. You'll want some baggywrinkle or some plastic sheath on your after shrouds before your shiny new Ratsey's sails suffer chaff. I'm thinking to set up my T38 with tackles on the aft shrouds so the leeward one can be slacked off like it were a running backstay. As well as easing the chaff problem, it should allow the gaff to swing a little further to leeward when trying to dump power from the sail in a squall

We have dyneema rigging so I don’t think chafe will be an issue

@@ZigZagSailing_113 You're probably right, but polyester on polyester after a hundred thousand rubs? I wonder if that's true (I've no idea, just interested...)

you guys are daring to live on a 30 ft tiki i had a 38 ft tiki and there was just enough room for two. you might want to build a bow spirit so you have a place to stand when working up on the jib. it would make it easier to install a roller furling so you could reduce sail easier. good luck

Roller furling comes with its own set of risks too. In my opinion better to have three jibs than one large one. Also we can reduce windage easier by taking the jib off the head stay completely.
