The military did research on the effectiveness of medication after the expiration date as they were throwing away millions of dollars worth of medication every year and it was determined that medications are about 80 - 90% effective 15 years after the expiration date and can’t hurt you except for the medications this pharmacist mentions. I would add blood pressure medication to his list and any liquid medication.
Yes. IME they don’t expire and are totally fine PILL wise. Idk about special creams and stuff. Simply store meds in a dark dry cabinet at a regular Temperatures around (70degrees or so)
how about antidepressants i had stop taking them cause they would k.o me for 12 straight hours but i feel like i need them again but already 5 months have passed since their expiration date
From what I know about antidepressants, they aren’t really something you can take on and off. They increase or decrease certain chemicals in the brain over time to help stabilize your hormones. Taking them with out a prescription/ for not a long enough time may have little to no effect. Now, if they were knocking you out then you probably needed the amount you were taking adjusted, or switched to a different medication all together.
Usually medicines react with oxygen and moisture in the air. The only way to prevent this is to vacuum out the air and replace it with an inert gas, like pure nitrogen or argon.
What about aleve, it expired 3 months ago, I took one an hour ago without realizing and my heart rate is fast I’m breathing heavy and I have a bad headache, and my stomach hurts
Nate: That is the nature of naproxen and ibuprofen. I believe that they now have a black box warning. They put you at risk for stroke and heart attack. I do not take them anymore.
