He started off as the well meaning perfect Robin in detective comics when he first became Robin, but eventually the absurd amount of trauma that comes from having your parents die and then being adopted by the boogie man to fight murder clowns got to him. Frankly, I don't think anyone in this scenario wouldn't end up like him, the reason dick and tim didn't is because they had the titans and young justice to give them emotional support outside of Bruce, Jason didn't. Maybe at some point if he lived he would've gotten to work out his emotions and become a blend of his two versions, but we all know that didn't happen.
As divisive as Damian is, he was effective for a multiple of reasons. He's the first biological son to batman (in terms of Robins), he's an Al ghul, he's Bruce anthithesis AND he was Dick Grayson's robin, which is super meaningful when your Batman was the OG Robin and you're the first robin that gets the mantle FROM him instead of Bruce. As regards Tim, I think what happens is that we all know what kind of Robin he is, but DC hasn't nailed what kind of NOT Robin he is.

Thats why we have so little images of Venus, all the rovers we send get curshed within seconds of entering the planets atmosphere, and why we're focused on colonizing Mars even though Venus is closer.

They come to the Sterling NY RenFaire & I had gotten one of their Bronze Necklaces with a Phoenix & a Ring of Hearts but then later got a Silver (back when they used 100% Silver) one with my initial D & a beautiful Pentagram. I loved that necklace & was devastated when it went missing when I was 20. My ex gave me a new Pentagram when I was 21 that I still have but it wasn’t from them. I remember the way that if you stood in front of them as they made it, when the mini anvil went down you’d get hit in the face with a splash of water.
Tim is my favorite Robin. I agree that he is Batman's perfect Robin, the smartest and most skilled, most dedicated, the only Robin that could take over for Batman one day. The Robin that thinks with his mind and not with his fists. No clue how people think he's boring, I think he kicks ass. He's also a perfect Millennial: addicted to coffee, tragic love life, depressed but keeps going because what else can he do. That being said, I love all the Robins.

I love Damian but even though he's been Robin for a long time now Tim Drake will always just be Robin to me. Tim stepping up after Jason's death and forcing himself to fit into the role and molding himself into what he thinks Robin should be and what Batman needs is just such a big part of his character. When you take away Robin what else is there? He picked up the pieces he kept the wheel turning. Dick was the first, the pioneer he made it up as he went, Jason was brought in to it, he was the second who had to try his best to walk the path like the first did but something like that is impossible so he was bound to fail in that regard, with Damian being Robin was never the Goal it was something to help him on his journey, becoming his father's heir and proving himself but Tim? Tim knew what it meant to be Robin he was aware of the requirements and responsibilities and motivated by the want to fulfill them when he felt they weren't. Like someone seeing a cog in a mashine missing and replacing it themselves. For him Robin was the goal, is his goal. So I'm not one bit suprised that all his newer hero costumes and names still lean on it because he is Robin and will always be Robin in the way Bruce is and always will be Batman. I love the first two and Damian especially but Tim and Bruce are just my absolute favorite Robin Batman duo. Because Tim is just as Gungho about being Robin as Bruce is about being Batman and their energy just matches so well.
