    Thanks to everyone who has followed and supported this build. It's been huge and so happy to be back behind the wheel. Two things:
    1) I need to replace my headlining.
    2) At the bottom of the gorge, looks like I ran over a condom?

      don't neglect to change the supercharger's oil ever 50,000 or so miles so it doesn't eat itself at 80,000-100,000 (ask me how I know and why I won't buy another BMW product)

      I've had to settle for each joy of repair before the mods for the most part.
      About 1 good mod every year or 3. Takes time.
      Hey. Repairs make a car feel as much better as a mod. That's my true silver lining. :)

    • @TKDWolf
      @TKDWolf 8 лет назад

      +DE “AutoBravado” Nichols It's taken me about 8 years to get my 86 to a point where It actually drives amazing without many "mods"... it's so satisfying to drive a car that I've put so much work into and to have it finally ready for an autocross...

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado 8 лет назад

      ConnorWolf I'm sure it is!
      We had a break through on driveability on my car. When my MAF was breaking near the time I put in a short ram, I got a vent solenoid backwards. This made it suck fuel vapor at all times instead of when the PCM wanted it.
      I switched them thinking I must have put them on backwards, but when the PCM thought it had more air then it really did it helped it idle at all.
      Of course after other things were fixed this made the car run worse, not better. Also, my car had a set wrong throttle screw all this time! It looked set by the factory, but I was wrong. As my diagnosis trainer at work taught me a few more things at work and adjusted this screw the fuel trims improved immediately!
      At idle, every vacuum leak gets interpreted as a rich condition. It's still not perfect, but it's so much better! A few more fixes of time and not money are nice when you're broke.
      Improving welds, cutting out a broken exhaust shield bolt to remove a rattle, polishing things...all stuff I already have to work with. I'm feeling way more upbeat about the whole project! I'm making videos at every repair and even a few about mods and DIY fixes most pro's won't do like water decarbonization.
      That's why I think my heart responded tremendously to Moog's joy in this episode. :)

    Did anyone else get emotional in this video? Seeing Moog drive his dream car and talk about his days as a kid driving one made me want to drive one. Hearing Moog describe this car and talk about the history of the car (A few videos back) made me want to give a Mini a go and some back roads. Every car is unique in its own way, just like the people that own them.

    "The best car in the world is the one that makes you feel the best about yourself when your driving it." Best quote about cars I have ever heard. This is why MCM speaks to so many, it's not about the mods, crazy converstions or epic trips to where ever. It is about the pleasure we all get from a hunk of metal that nothing else can give us and sharing it with the people around us.

Even supercharged A series with head work bored out to a 1330cc and with a racier cam only hitting around 150/160 it did seem silly when they went to all this effort that they did not refresh the block or touch the cylinder head which could have got them a lot more power!

    It had 62HP at the CRANK when it was new, so lets assume that it has lost around 5HP and started with 57HP, it now has about 88HP. (57 x 1.54 to give 154% of standard power)
    Being a late model it weighs about 700KG, taking into account the weight of the AC system and the SC system, as well as the lessened weight from the stainless exhaust and the wheels, it probably weighs about 710KG.
    That works out as 126 crank HP per tonne, or about the same as a MK2 MX5 1.8.
    For you Aussies, 88HP is about 66KW, taking into account parasitic drivetrain losses, that translates to around 56 wheel KW or 80 wheel KW per tonne (WKW/tonne)
    You people saying things like "No more than 100KW" and "Somewhere between 100 and 200KW" are totally off your nut. Why not actually do a little research instead of spouting rubbish and confusing everyone?
    Hope this helps... :)

      Well said, but like what Moog was trying too say it really isn't about power figures.
      My 1993 Falcon XG only makes about 150kw at the crank. She's receiving a turbocharger 302 Windsor.
      But it's being built only for the driving experience, of course it feels nice too be pushed into your seat when you flatten the throttle but dyno numbers mean nothing if your car truly does put a grin on your face everytime you drive it regardless if other people understand it

    My first car was a 1980 Mini special 1100, bought by my dad for me for €800 when I was 16. Since then I've had Toyora Ae111, BMW E30, E46, E39, MX5 Mk1, 1974 Toyota Celica TA22 etc and even a BMW Mini Cooper and none of them even remotely compare to how much fun my old mini is to drive, its got rust holes big enough to fit your hand through the doors and floor and even though it's engine has gone on fire 3 times its never broken down majorly. It sprints around on cut slicks, engine roaring, gearbox screaming and just loves it! I'll never ever part with it, even though i dont get to drive it often. It's here for life.

      Josip Purgar eh... that car didn't really count. From my recollection, all non-JDM cars MCM did were just small projects, jokes, or didn't really have much TLC. I don't remember if that VW Beetle they worked on was actually German made or not.
      Seeing either European or American cars would be interesting to me.

    This makes me think of my Father, restoring his 1983 Mini on our driveway. It was his final project before he died and the pure joy driving around in that car brought us has yet to be rivaled. Honestly, we were grinning like Moog in this video! I am gonna start searching for that car and if she's still alive, bring her home, where she belongs.

    Moog is so right about the feels that a Mini just brings out in people. I rarely go anywhere in mine without someone smiling, waving or stopping to ask about it and if its an older person they tell me about the Mini they had back in the day and how they'd love to have one again. You can't beat driving around in a car that has that affect on people.

    Amazingly inspiring. I'm getting close to finishing a similar project and I have to agree with everything you said. It's about what car makes you feel the best while you drive it. It's about building it with your friends, not your checkbook. The emotions we feel while driving is the most important thing, especially when we remember and thank those that helped us realize a dream. Thank you MCM for the inspiration. All the best.
