"The Wild Swimmers" shows the lifestyle of open water swimmers, exploring the cold glacial lakes of New Zealand. The narrative is provided through a poem that highlights the sportsmanship and challenges, and the dichotomy of sharing an outdoor adventure together whilst looking down into the depths alone. The video complements the narrative by showing the stunning scenery and landscape of the Southern Lakes area, and the strong communal feeling that belongs to this group of strange, wild swimmers.
This video was one of the finalists in the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival. Special thanks to the Southern Lakes Swimming Club in Queentown, and to the swimming club in Cromwell.
Footage has been collected during the Pigeon Island (Lake Whakatipu) and Coffee Boat (Lake Dunstan) swim.
The poem is written by Bethany Rogers, and the narration is done by Steve McCallion - both members of the swimming club. Music can be found here: audiojungle.net/item/ambient-...
