Lego has really upped their game with these Speed Champions sets. The first few waves look clumsy now. Moving to an 8-stud size was a genius move.

That Solus GT does look far more interesting than I thought, I didn't realise it has an "hourglass" sort of footprint/surface area. I expected it to be rather boxy. Either way, I can't wait to start building these and the other sets in this range, they just look too awesome.

Couldn't agree more with your thoughts on the Solus GT. I built that first to "get it out of the way" and ended up falling in love with it! Spectacularly designed and such a satisfying build. I've already build the rest of the wave (excl the 963) and can comfortably say that this is my favorite set of the bunch. Perhaps only the Pagani comes close, with how satisfying the interior comes together (won't spoil it for you, but there's a tiny detail that makes the steering wheel fit nicely).
    Nice video as always!

Is it just me or is the F1 LM the hottest road car ever made? I was a fan of it as a 14 year old in 1996, and I’m still a fan of it today. It makes me tingle in all the right places. This Lego set will take pride of place next to my extremely overpriced 1:18 scale model of the same.
If Lego wanted to add just one more Easter egg in the build, their driver alternate heads should have included a set of orange headphones for communication, just like the real thing 😁

The classic, iconic McLaren is knockout from the front at least, superbly made by Lego!
So glad they've increased the ”resolution” (width) of the Speed Champions cars some time ago, so much more expressive and realistic!

Not gonna lie I kinda feel bad for the Solus GT. It is such a gorgeous car but the paint scheme LEGO chose makes it looks like a Ninjago car that somehow got lost to the Speed Champions section. IDK why they didn't just go with full white with a single stripe running through the car that like 99% of models of the car use.

I also got all 2023 sets on day one, the F1 LM is my favorite, I love the source car and the color, it feels unique among the entire theme.
But the rest of the 2023 cars are just nice to build, nothing more, nothing exciting.
The Ferrari 812 Competizione looks very similar to the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
I never heard of Pagani Utopia before (probably was the cheapest for LEGO to license, and most Pagani models are quite similar anyway.).
The Porsche 963 and McLaren Solus GT are very niche/obscure (as opposed to so many legendary cars) but again, they probably were cheap to license.
The problem here is there are hundreds of legendary cars that LEGO could've turned into Speed Champions, instead, they keep choosing these models that normally you'd pick once you covered all the great ones.
Also, I wish they would diversify the car categories more, like they did in the past. Why not a dune buggy, a Baja rally car, a Kart, more movie/game IPs, more classics (50s), lowriders, even some 6 wides re-released as 8wides. I'd love a proper 8 wide 911 or a Nascar. Instead, we just got the most boring year ever, except for the Nissan Skyline and the F1 LM.
I want legendary cars and variety.

The build techniques on these sets blow me away....There are so many things in these sets that work like magic, how is some of it even possible but it is? really like this set and I still don't know how you are getting 2 cars for the low price but hey, I'll take it!

I love the Front, Back, Top, Interior, but I agree with you, they really missed on the side, and that OAR..... Does NOT get the job done! Heck, they could of used SNOT with that new C-Pillar triangular piece and gotten a better look on the side if you ask me! That new piece used in this car, combined with the piece from the Solus GT (but in matching Orange) would have created a beautiful side if it looks in reality as I think it would in my mind. Just my thoughts on it and the way I might try to recreate it.

I’ve noticed that somehow I messed up sOmEWhErE because I have a slight gap on the rear bumper and which completely throws me off my enjoyment of building this. I also got this set and while the Solus wasn't exactly thrilling (and I am also biased towards the F1) I have to say it is a better model in person than on pictures/video. But the F1 takes the cake, for me it's the ultimate SC set for now and even thought I'm also not the biggest fan of the side view (I have more an issue with the side scoop though) it's still a great looking model all things considered. I'm not sure it could have been done any better with LEGO (I for sure would not be able to).

That canopy print quality has to be fixed soon! The one shown here is actually not that bad, the one I got is way less saturated. Unacceptable for an otherwise superb set.
I also think in terms of graphics design they should have rounded off the side window at the top of the A-pillar. Again, look at that picture of the real car, it doesn't have a sharp corner there. And they have done that type of graphics earlier on the same canopy piece, for the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for example.

I'm always surprised about these price discussions, especially between US and Euro prices. When you say "I paid $35 for this" I assume you paid actually more than this, unless you live in one of these states that don't have sale taxes. As far as I know, the Euro price is the price you pay. As a result when people look at the prices in different currencies, they often don't get the full picture. Like the Rivendell set is the "same price" in US and Euro, but no, in my state it will be about $45 more.

The Solus might be an interesting build, but to me, it results in a car that's just not for me. Yes, I don't like the source material. Additionally, we're enteriing 10-wide territory here, which is ridiculous in comparison to the Minifigs. Sell me just the F1, okay?

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B Год назад

Was thinking with this new $25 price point for Speed Champions sets, this seems like a downright bargain at $35, however something about the way the GT looks is just too "plain", as you mentioned the studs on the front look in your face and off compared to the F1 which by regards is completely smooth except the near the bottom on the sides, and while yeah it may have some neat building techniques it just looks somewhat wrong.

  • @skyborne80

As a Lego build, the Solus is brilliantly done. I have no clue how they could have done it better. The look, however, is ugglyy! The real thing is okay, but Legofied, it's just not nice looking. But that's not Lego's fault imo.
