    My newest growth bloomed about September. The leaves are still green. I haven't watered it in like 3 weeks and I need to do maintenance to it. I have an old bulb that is dead and I need to change out the medium.
    Yes I have CTSM.Hat Trick it is also a dark,dark purple. My bulb that I grew was bigger than the previous growths. Last summer was my first time growing this type of orchid. Love to get more!

    1.5 - 2.0mm aluminium (bonsai) wire works great for me instead of skewers (if black mould is an issue) to keep the bulbs standing tight. Wires can be fastened onto the pots instead of the media, which makes it even sturdier =)

    I like the soft spots video idea. I always like when orchid care Is compared among genera because I can better apply that to my environment regardless. For example, a greenhouse grower might not think phals need that much light, but their idea of light is different from mine in my house. But if I know that phals prefer less light than cattleyas typically, then I can use that info to decide where in my home to place phals relative to where I place my cattleyas , based on relative light requirements

    After growing them in semihidro for 4 years, I am considering in changing them back to sphagnum and bark. During the growing season they can drink the entire reservoir within a couple of days and while it was fun in the beginning, it gets tiring to have to prepare water almost in daily basis so it kind of defeats the purpose. Also this year snails ate the flower spikes 😭

    I just purchased my first Catasetum- FDK After Dark Black Pearl. I heard it smells like Anise and am hoping that is true. However, even if I don't get a flower or fragrance, I like the look of the pseudobulb. I just hope to be able to keep it alive.

    My catasetum's leaves died off and now I am getting a flower spike. I have the after dark. I am not sure if I keep watering or do I stop. I agree with you with the cinnamon. I use it in my coffee and it doesn't desolve but you can see it absorbed some coffee. It looks wet and darker.

    My Black Magic Millenium Witchcraft did not bloom this year, despite putting out huge leaves. Nor did it go dormant. It still has all it’s huge leaves on the new pseudo bulb, and seems to be putting out a small growth at the base. It’s the middle of winter here in the US, and I don’t know what to do with this orchid. It did great last year, but this year the new growth was not as big as last year’s pseudobulb and kind of bends to the side. Any helpful suggestions???

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  2 года назад

      Hi, just wait it out, that growth might be a spike! This orchid can bloom very close to the base. If it's a new growth just let the orchid tell you what to do. As long as the pseudobulb is not shrivelling much, it doesn't need water. When it shrivels, it's time to give it some water 😊

    Hey Danny,
    I have a little problem with my catasetums, namely the Wine Delight.
    Thing is that all three of them are coming out of "dormancy" after they have finished bloomeing a month ago
    My Problem is that none of them have remotely lost their leaves. They all have about 3-4 left and stopped loosing them a few weeks ago.
    However there is also new growth showing already. Do you by any chance know how to deal with that situation?

    Good evening Danny, I have one Question. I just got my Monn. Millennium Magic, and I guess its a sibling or a young plant and it has two new growths appearing. And I'm really unsure what to do with it, because I don't know wether I should keep watering it or apply the normal Catasetum growing method with waiting for its roots to reach 4cm

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  2 года назад +1

      Hi, water your orchids whenever they are dry, no matter how many days apart this is. Coffee doesn't have a meaningful effect, so you can skip it ☺️

    • @jjeshop
      @jjeshop 2 года назад +1

      Thanks a bunch. Usually i add coffee because plants tend to do better with it, my tomatoes do. It's a good source of nitrogen, I suppose I assumed phals need that. Cheers!

    (eyeroll) whoever told you that cinnamon doesn't absorb water doesn't understand science. It doesn't seem to initially because ground cinnamon is tiny tiny grains, which means a large surface area to mass ratio. We all know that water has surface tension. This is why you can float a paper clip on top. It's surface tension interacting with cinnamon's surface area that doesn't allow it to absorb water, temporarily. But like you say, let it sit long enough and that tension will break and the cinnamon will absorb the water. Silly.
    Ok rant aside. I'm not sure how I've not killed my catasetum by now. I don't think I've ever cut off it's roots! I think my saving grace is being in a dry environment, so it was never wet enough to rot. Also why it hasn't grown very well, lol. I'm abandoning semi-hydro this season and going back to traditional methods. Cant wait to see the results!
