  • The guitarist sat down with me on Tuesday 7/15/80 to discuss his then-new album, "Splendido Hotel" and tour. I'm a bit more talkative (as usual), but the discussion about state of the music biz in 1980 and prog/fusion in general is always interesting..and now in better quality!

yes! after all these years, al dimeola rocks harder, and is the king of rock as well as jazz, jeff beck never had the rock-nor jazz appeal that al did, not for me, not since about 1979! but i love jeff beck, he's so unique and no less skilled than al, just different... i would like to hear al and steve morse do somethin'...i think that would be the alltime best

This is actually a really good interview. Not much of the stereotypical formulaic questions.

He was right about the music business and his style of music. It still is a niche product.

The footage proves that DiMeola has had a hair transplant. This footage was - I say circa 1979 - and as yo can see he's starting to bald. But in recent years, he has a head full of hair, and somehow I don't think this would have occurred naturally.

Weird interview. The host seems interested in the music but asks typically stupid questions.
