I’ve been to Colombia twice and I do the opposite, I leave my main phone in the room and carry an old phone with me when I go out and in this phone there’s no banking info or PayPal on it. It’s just to make calls to Uber and its connected to a prepaid debit card with no more than a hundred bucks on it Thank god it wasn’t worse

I left Brazil to go to Colombia. They denied me boarding the plane at the GATE since I didn’t get a yellow fever shot. I was pissed losing 180$ on a plane ticket an another 1000$ on prepaid airbnb. Ay Wey sports bar isn’t a sketchy bar. It’s a popular sports bar in the heart of the main party area in Medellin that’s generally 99% tourists. But he did make a mistake by leaving and going to parque poblado, that park is sketchy late at night.

Thailand is safe , I went there three times and I loved it. I was thinking of going to Columbia but after hearing your experience I have changed my mind. Hope you feel better and you learn from your experience. Thailand bar is full with tourists. It’s much safer.

i am very sorry for you bro, but really really i have no clue why you guys just let your guards down so much, not only like you did, but with anyone in life, i am from medellin, spent 9 years in NY and just came back a couple of years ago, and have been always very alert any time i am just hanging out at night, specially if i am going to be ALONE, which i will never do, i guess having been born and raised here just got me always aware of the surroundings, Medellin is quite safe when you are aware of your surroundings, normally robbers are looking for distracted people or easy targets, and in this time men, you made yourself an easy one, going alone, getting drunk and trusting a stranger, specially a men, you got to give yourself a bit of time to get to know people, specially when you know you are from a different culture that normally you dont really share much in common. always act like you broke, so you dont get the wrong kind of attention, try to always hang with a girl or a friend, the chances for them to do what they did to you while in company of somebody are very slim, and if you go to a night out, you can start early, so you are back home or at hotel-motel by 1 am, avoid being in the streets at 2-4 am, you can have same level of fun earlier. antioquia has a lot to offer, do not get unmotivated by what happened to you, but say fuck it, sht is not going to happen again, not by not coming to the city, because it can happen anywere, but for yourself to self reflect and be more adapted to just have your guard up. and i can tell you, even if i went to have a night life in NY, i just enjoy medellin a lot, the malls are super cool, way different than malls in US, you actually go here to have great food, buy stuffs and go watch cool movies, oviedo, viva envigado, and san diego malls are my fav, you can hang out to eat and go to bars in many areas like manila, parque del poblado, provenza, ciudad del rio, and laureles parks and many others, you can go around many close towns like la ceja, el retiro, guatape and many others in which you can catch a breathe of fresh air, you can go to the events that these towns have, their respective central parks with the beautiful churches and antique buildings, you should not deprive yourself from enjoying all the good aspects of colombia, for example i was las weekend in Girardota in the festival del chicharron, i ate and had a great time in the park, masive amount of people, everyone there just to have a great time, beautiful women, and for this coming labor day weekend, i will go to Jardin, which is around 3.5 4 hours from medellin, another hidden gem you should visit, will go there to recharge batteries with my girl. long story short, just be more at the defense, dont let any strange fucker get too close to you, avoid hanging out at stupid late hours and alone or with strangers, and just enjoy sht and keep going!

I never been to Colombia and I have a similar experience, letting your guard down and trusting anyone..i mean anyone you will lose Everytime. These thieves present themselves as friends with ill intentions in mind. I got drugged and not even sure if I was hit or not, I just woke up on the grass with a sickness, I'm not even sure if I got robbed. I remember stumbling and by the grace of God i fell in front of a condo camera. I never been drunk, i had one shot of liquor from this dude and within 4 minutes i was woozy, had enough conscious to leave the vicinity i was currently in, walked through a parking lot towards the condo and that was my last recollection

Ill be honest...i got robbed in Nov...but it was because i drank a lot and didnt lock up my cell and wallet in the airbnb safe at night. I woke up Not drugged or anything..but saw she left with my wallet. Its a good thing i had my computer hidden and blocked my debit card. Lesson learned...trust no one and when bringing a girl over....hide or lock up my cell and wallet in a safe or under the mattess/dresser draw so i dont wake up taken!
What’s the name of the bar? I’ve searched “highway bar”? I’m Medellin now, I’ve actually been warned about even sitting outside or in the front of bars or restaurants. People will come up to and rob you with a gun or knife so I usually sit on the inside so a passerby can’t see me.
I live in Medellin, and i only drink from bottles that i see are opened. if i dont see the cap pop i dont drink it. but lived here 6 years never had any issues, just have to stay alert, be mindful. this could happen in the states also.

You could very well have seen her grabbing drinks or food orders from the Mexican spot next door taking them to whoever was up there because the bars are connected through the business owner. Could have been that. I actually know who the short girl with glasses is. There’s another short girl who has dyed blonde hair that works there but she doesn’t wear glasses and she could have been working there too. The people I spoke to which includes someone who inquired directly with one of the owners confirmed that the girl who occasionally wears glasses wasn’t working at ay wey that night. You did accuse her of lying to you, but I understand how you could have gotten that mixed up. She wasn't lying when she said she wasn't working at Ay Wey that night and if she was working at the poker spot she probably didn't remember you being at Ay Wey that night either.

If you don’t speak Spanish don’t visit Colombia by yourself or without someone you know from where you live that speaks it that you trust . I’ve been to Colombia more than 8 times I’m a Spanish speaker and I have a lovely time out there just by knowing Spanish . No need to take my phone out and translate , I even picked up a few slang words that they use I’m almost perfecting the way they talk lol . Be glad you’re alive cause they could have ended your life in a blink of an eye .

This happened in El Poblado. Poblado and Laureles are the 2 major tourist areas so that is where people like to target travelers. In the day time you should be fine. Be very careful in the night life areas and try to always be with someone. Don't trust anyone no matter how friendly they seem. Stay safe

I left Brazil to go to Colombia. They denied me boarding the plane at the GATE since I didn’t get a yellow fever shot. I was pissed losing 180$ on a plane ticket an another 1000$ on prepaid airbnb. Ay Wey sports bar isn’t a sketchy bar. It’s a popular sports bar in the heart of the main party area in Medellin that’s generally 99% tourists. But he did make a mistake by leaving and going to parque poblado, that park is sketchy late at night.

i am very sorry for you bro, but really really i have no clue why you guys just let your guards down so much, not only like you did, but with anyone in life, i am from medellin, spent 9 years in NY and just came back a couple of years ago, and have been always very alert any time i am just hanging out at night, specially if i am going to be ALONE, which i will never do, i guess having been born and raised here just got me always aware of the surroundings, Medellin is quite safe when you are aware of your surroundings, normally robbers are looking for distracted people or easy targets, and in this time men, you made yourself an easy one, going alone, getting drunk and trusting a stranger, specially a men, you got to give yourself a bit of time to get to know people, specially when you know you are from a different culture that normally you dont really share much in common.
always act like you broke, so you dont get the wrong kind of attention, try to always hang with a girl or a friend, the chances for them to do what they did to you while in company of somebody are very slim, and if you go to a night out, you can start early, so you are back home or at hotel-motel by 1 am, avoid being in the streets at 2-4 am, you can have same level of fun earlier.
antioquia has a lot to offer, do not get unmotivated by what happened to you, but say fuck it, sht is not going to happen again, not by not coming to the city, because it can happen anywere, but for yourself to self reflect and be more adapted to just have your guard up.
and i can tell you, even if i went to have a night life in NY, i just enjoy medellin a lot, the malls are super cool, way different than malls in US, you actually go here to have great food, buy stuffs and go watch cool movies, oviedo, viva envigado, and san diego malls are my fav, you can hang out to eat and go to bars in many areas like manila, parque del poblado, provenza, ciudad del rio, and laureles parks and many others, you can go around many close towns like la ceja, el retiro, guatape and many others in which you can catch a breathe of fresh air, you can go to the events that these towns have, their respective central parks with the beautiful churches and antique buildings, you should not deprive yourself from enjoying all the good aspects of colombia, for example i was las weekend in Girardota in the festival del chicharron, i ate and had a great time in the park, masive amount of people, everyone there just to have a great time, beautiful women, and for this coming labor day weekend, i will go to Jardin, which is around 3.5 4 hours from medellin, another hidden gem you should visit, will go there to recharge batteries with my girl.
long story short, just be more at the defense, dont let any strange fucker get too close to you, avoid hanging out at stupid late hours and alone or with strangers, and just enjoy sht and keep going!

I never been to Colombia and I have a similar experience, letting your guard down and trusting anyone..i mean anyone you will lose Everytime. These thieves present themselves as friends with ill intentions in mind. I got drugged and not even sure if I was hit or not, I just woke up on the grass with a sickness, I'm not even sure if I got robbed. I remember stumbling and by the grace of God i fell in front of a condo camera. I never been drunk, i had one shot of liquor from this dude and within 4 minutes i was woozy, had enough conscious to leave the vicinity i was currently in, walked through a parking lot towards the condo and that was my last recollection

Ill be honest...i got robbed in Nov...but it was because i drank a lot and didnt lock up my cell and wallet in the airbnb safe at night. I woke up Not drugged or anything..but saw she left with my wallet. Its a good thing i had my computer hidden and blocked my debit card. Lesson learned...trust no one and when bringing a girl over....hide or lock up my cell and wallet in a safe or under the mattess/dresser draw so i dont wake up taken!
What’s the name of the bar? I’ve searched “highway bar”? I’m Medellin now, I’ve actually been warned about even sitting outside or in the front of bars or restaurants. People will come up to and rob you with a gun or knife so I usually sit on the inside so a passerby can’t see me.

You could very well have seen her grabbing drinks or food orders from the Mexican spot next door taking them to whoever was up there because the bars are connected through the business owner. Could have been that. I actually know who the short girl with glasses is. There’s another short girl who has dyed blonde hair that works there but she doesn’t wear glasses and she could have been working there too. The people I spoke to which includes someone who inquired directly with one of the owners confirmed that the girl who occasionally wears glasses wasn’t working at ay wey that night. You did accuse her of lying to you, but I understand how you could have gotten that mixed up. She wasn't lying when she said she wasn't working at Ay Wey that night and if she was working at the poker spot she probably didn't remember you being at Ay Wey that night either.

If you don’t speak Spanish don’t visit Colombia by yourself or without someone you know from where you live that speaks it that you trust . I’ve been to Colombia more than 8 times I’m a Spanish speaker and I have a lovely time out there just by knowing Spanish . No need to take my phone out and translate , I even picked up a few slang words that they use I’m almost perfecting the way they talk lol . Be glad you’re alive cause they could have ended your life in a blink of an eye .
@@racecarcarrace3233 I speak some Spanish....I was studying out there. I should not of even been taking out my translator in the first place to talk to that guy. I've been there about 10 times...spent a lot of time there with no problem. I had a lot of good times out there. I'll be back. I'm very lucky it wasn't worse for sure! Thanks for watching

This happened in El Poblado. Poblado and Laureles are the 2 major tourist areas so that is where people like to target travelers. In the day time you should be fine. Be very careful in the night life areas and try to always be with someone. Don't trust anyone no matter how friendly they seem. Stay safe
