- Trader Joe's is still releasing new winter holiday seasonal products each week and this week they featured quite a few meat items such as the Hardwood Smoked Pulled Pork and Pulled Chicken. I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years so I don't eat that stuff, but my husband does, so he gives his honest review while we both provide our opinions on the other new items, as well.

I was laid off 13 years ago at Christmas 3 months after giving birth to my 3rd child. It was the catalyst for me to become a stay at home Mom, which I would have never considered had I not been downsized. I know Tim is going to land exactly where he is meant to be and it will be so much better❤ I would like to get my kitchen table and desk cleared off before the end of 2023. It probably won't happen as we leave for out of town in 6 days, but a girl can dream.

Love the positive attitude you both have. My hubby and I decided years ago to forgo buying Christmas gifts for each other and it really takes the mental and financial stress off us both. We also had to set a budget and let people know that we are stopping all the gifts but instead welcomed everyone to a potluck party. I think everybody was happier and it’s a new tradition. Yes, I wanted to start purging stuff and listing things on Ebay and I also wanted to start consistently doing some strenghth training, but 2024 will be for both!! Sorry Tim for your news. I had went through the same thing this year and I know how tough it is. I finally just got back to work so I know your better job will be on the way. Great taste test. I need to try the pulled pork and definitely those cakes...yum!

I'm excited for the petite four variety pack. I plan on getting a pack if I can on my next TJs visit and putting them in the freezer for my NYE mocktail party. I think it'll be a great dessert served along with the appetizers.

Tim I am so sorry to hear you were laid off your job. That is hard. My husband and I have been through that at one point in our lives too. My prayer that another job opportunity will come sooner than later and that it will be an improvement over the last one. That being said I always enjoy your Trader Joe taste tests. The little cakes look especially yummy. I did de-cluttering myself recently Katie. It helps financially to do re-sales and also nice to give some to charity. My thing is replacing the income I lost in the spring. I lost three major clients in a row. I've managed to get one new client, which helps but isn't anywhere near enough.

Getting ready to leave for TJ’s now. Fingers crossed they will have the petite fours when I get there. I’m so sorry to hear that Tim. I do have faith that you will find a better job than you had. Pits are left in the olives because it makes for a firmer texture. If olives are pitted and then put in the brine, they can wind up pretty mushy. If you dislike the pits, you can buy and olive pitter and just pit them right before. you serve them. I'm sorry to hear that Tim is job hunting. I hope he finds something soon.
Pitting creates a greater surface area for the brine to penetrate. Thus making the olives more salty, diluting their natural flavor, and softening them. Makes sense if one thinks about it. Which I never have, before.

I’d like to lose 10lbs which is not going to happen for rest of December, but I can try my best not to snack before bedtime and eat healthier. Tim, just hold on to it and do your best on job hunting. You will receive the best outcome!I was searching for job for months and finally I received my offer 2 months ago and left previous employer, and new job is wayyyy better than the previous one. So don’t give up, the best is yet to come! 💪🏼

❤️❤️❤️ petit fours were considered very fancy and luxurious, and were a lot more well known back when I was young. I think, like a lot of things, they kind of fell out of fashion for a while, and maybe are coming back. They are French and we used to pronounce petit almost, but not quite, like “petty” , not like petite, but I don’t know what is correct, then or now, lol. 😊. I don’t know if Tim got to taste the sous vide short ribs they had in the same area that the pulled pork is in now, but I bought it a few weeks ago and it was delicious. Tried to buy more yesterday to have for Christmas and they told me they were just for Thanksgiving and are gone. I hope they bring them back. The glazed pork loin in the same area is also good. Job loss is my biggest fear and I think it’s one of the most stressful things in life. I am so sorry that Tim, and you, are going through this and I hope he finds an even better job very soon. He’s a great guy and his next employer will be lucky to have him. ❤❤❤

I watch several other grocery haul channels. Many have mentioned that the food for their hauls counts as a business expense. Maybe you do this already IDK. I just thought I would mention it. And Tim- something bigger and better is definitely headed your way 💕. As far as my goal for the end of the year is to get my new apartment unpacked and organized. I moved in November 1st and I'm embarrassed to say I'm only about 1/3 unpacked. I'm a single mom and an empty nester so I downsized to a much smaller place. I already got rid of half of my things but still need to get rid of more. Every time I start I get overwhelmed and quit. Maybe I need to buy a bottle or 4 of TJ's wine and just go to town on this place 😂

I'm an IC, and my hours have drastically been cut with the company I do projects for this month. On top of that, the company was bought out, and we won't work during Xmas as usual, which I was looking forward to working those hours. Times are definitely challenging. I hope Tim and the rest of us can find something good in the upcoming year.
I'm sorry you're going through a layoff. This happened to my dear husband 3 times and was especially hard on him. I pray for peace for your family and that God will lead you to the perfect job. Enjoy time together in the meantime. That and especially our faith helped us all get through it.

Tim hang in there. I know from experience how terrible it is to be caught up in a corporate restructuring however there is another opportunity out there for you with more $$ and better benefits than the one you left. It happened to me so keep the faith for 2024 and just try to enjoy the holidays with your family because you might never get this much time off again to spend with them. I fell in October, broke my hip, had surgery and ended 0:36 up in rehab facility, so got off track, but am home and walking again so will get back to house soon!!!

Cook Illustrated says pitted olives can get mushier than unpitted olives as the brine gets into the interior of the olive. I prefer pitted olives as well.

For me taking the pits out of the olives is equivalent to cutting fruit ahead of time. Sometimes they get mushy. The flavor is better when the pit is in it and the texture too. Go to Italy and I don’t think they ever take the pits out.
About a decade ago that happened to my husband and he searched around he found a bankrupt company that he knew a lot about he brought it out of bankruptcy and he’s the owner nobody can fire him he decided nobody’s ever firing him again! I don’t know if that’s possible for Tim to do but if he can make it so no one can ever fire him. I highly recommend that!

I think olives taste better with the pit. They seem to lose flavor when the pits are removed.
I totally agree with this! Olives with pit are also more firmer and crunchier too, and I much prefer that texture over soft and salty one : )
I buy their organic brined pitted Kalamata olives…deelish!
Oh! I forgot to mention this before! The reason why they keep the pits in the olive is it keeps it from getting soggy and mushy (which happens pretty quick). So even though the pits are annoying (I agree lol), the olives have a better texture and stay firm longer! 😊

I don’t do garage sales anymore. I just clean out and call Vietnam vets to pick up. In the last three weeks we cleaned out our garage, our attic, and our basement. And I don’t mind telling you I’m exhausted!

Tim. Don’t worry. My son is in the same field as you and is constantly getting laid off. He always finds more jobs as everyone needs engineers. The new job always pays more than the old one.

I really do understand. My husband just turned 70 and has had to work part time to pay for my insurance. I don't feel like I am out of my health situation long enough to give up what I have in insurance. I'm 60. He is 70. Social Security is not enough with the cost of living. "Petit four" means "small oven" in French. These are French pastries, and it's more like "petty". They're small cakes traditionally cooked in a small oven next to a larger oven. So the FOUR doesn't have to make sense- it's French! 😂
