      Wow, is this the same as rolling around in bed with someone and having sex or is this similar. Before anyone sees this maybe I should read all that I can in RUclips and google about rules that might pertain to sexual inuendo. 😀

    Phototransistor: Take a 2N3055 in TO3 package and open the lid, then you have a phototransistor.
    You don't need a photodiode, the diode path from the transistor is enough.
    Phototrasistors and an LED are often installed in optocouplers but are invisible.

    "9 Types of Transistors"
    As I said on Part 1; You are a helluva teacher, kind Sir. And i will repeat: that I was an RCA technical Instructor for many years; at our Training schools. Thus, I began teaching the first transistors (and vacuum Tubes); right on up to "Mosfet" Transistors; before I retired.
    I would like to say this: IF we had had what you have now; we could have cut untold hours; in trying to teach our technicians; "How" do transistors work; AND more importantly "HOW" to Fix them; when they break down in TV's, Radios and other Electronic "GEMS"; that used transistors.
    Thank you kind Sir for what you are doing; "REGARDLESS" of what some others say; like "espoused" from some "Commenters!" on this channel.

      When we were kids my best friend and I would head to the dump (it was wide open and no security back then) about once a month and harvest components from old t.v.'s and radios we dug up for our reuse. Once we took a bucket of tubes to the local supermarket that had one of those courtesy tube testers there, but we were thrown out after about a half-hour of using their electricity to validate our tubes and not buying any of their tubes. ☺ Damn, those were fun times for a coupla broke entrepreneurs!

    Nice videos and can give you a general idea of how things work. However, I would recommend watching additional sources as this one has weirdly incorrect information in a few places. But if this is your first exposure to transistors and you don’t actually want build anything with one, it’s probably good enough.

    This is the most comprehensive explanation for these semi conductors I have ever seen. Thank You. And I didn't care for computer generated voices in instructional videos, until now. Well done. You now have "Ghost Teacher" status.Very good. You are definitely monitoring the "synthesized" voice to make sure it is acurate. (Yes, I know; sampled. Hence the quotes on synthesized.)     Be aware, Eduardo narrates the same content with his own voice on the Spanish and Italian versions, but needed to use a synthesized voice for the English ones. Like most people, I prefer a human voice but that would be very expensive in this case. I’m grateful he published his content in English, as I really appreciate his perspective, insight, knowledge, and of course his 3D models, as they go a long way reinforcing the text w animation.

    Hi.im a newbie and not even close to knowing anything.i just like to know things and now in my old age a quiet yrs ahead I like to do little project s and taking things apart and using parts and things from junk or broken items .so iv been just collecting all kinds of stuff.electronics etc...is there anything I should focus on from maybe the top thing in my box of electronic parts and switches etc.? What is top on the list as you would see it ..I like to de solder and collect and inventory my stuff....Id love to hear your thoughts...just a beginner I love motors and switches and can't wait to learn more .thank you

    I always thought that the "J" in JFET stood for junction.

      J is for Junction, and 10th type of transistor is called a Schottky transistor (which utilizes a Schottky diode btwn Base & Collector..

    9 types?
    Your image says “BJT, PNP, NPN,” ..and so on.
    PNP and NPN *are* BJT transistors!
    It’s like saying that ”a dice shows seven things: numbers, ones, twos,” ..and so on.
    No hard feelings, it just sounded a bit strange. :)

    This is very confusing!! I probably would have understood it better if you would have put pictures of actual transistors wired to other components (plainly marked) and plainly marking the base , emitter, and collector, and showing how to locate each one with plain to see markings. Thanks anyway for your thorough description, but I feel it was missing a few instructional diagrams.

    First, BJT is bipolar JUNCTION transistor -- not what you've been smoking -- you evidently sobered up later, but this should never have been a reasonable mistake. Second, PNP and NPN ARE BJT; they are not three classes. Third, holes from the p-side recombine with electrons from the n-side to emit light (or IR). Alternately, light excites an electron-hole pair in the junction and they follow the electric field to generate current in solar cells. "In series" applies to TWO terminal devices... Darlingtons have the b-e junctions in series and the collectors in parallel. You also omitted the MESFET (MEtal Semiconductor FET) that uses the Schottky effect rather like the JFET, the HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistor), and the HetFET (Heterojunction FET). And this does not include variations including other semiconductor materials than Silicon... GaAsFET, Germanium hybrids, SiC, GaN, etc.

      The corrections are appreciated, the attitude at the beginning - not so much. Especially when there’s a reasonable chance of a language barrier, as Eduardo likely speaks Spanish, with Italian as a second language. Anyone who can speak three languages could be given the assumption there’s a valid reason for the mistake; it’s obviously not because he’s not intelligent.

      That is a whole subject in and of itself, but needless to say you don't need any transistor to run a Tesla coil (a spark gap system can be made to work) although any transistor type with sufficient voltage and current rating can do it.

      There is a term in semiconductor "science" referred to as "Mobility." It's a measure of the net drift velocity for a given electric field gradient. It's been a long time, but I thought that holes had a higher "mobility" than did electrons. Electrons are real particles; holes are a "creature" of wave mechanics/quantum mechanics. They have "virtual" characteristics such as "virtual" mass. Again, it's been over 50 years since I studied this stuff.

    This breakdown is inconsistent. BJT's are broken down into PNP and NPN but MOSFETs are not broken down into N-CH and P-CH. Strictly speaking IGBTs while being a MOSFET/BJT darlington are on a single die and have different characteristics to a discrete implementation. Theoretically JFETs can come in N-CH and P-CH varieties although I'm not aware of and P-CH devices on the market. BJT darlingtons behave exactly the same as their discrete implementation so don't deserve there own type. Unijunction transistors are missing as are GaN of which there are devices with and without a body diode with differences in behaviour. In MOSFETs there are dual gate varieties that deserve mention. Quantum transistors deserve to be broken down into Josephson junction transistors and the newer varieties. GTO's are also missing. One could even argue that SCR's and Triacs deserve a mention here being 3 terminal devices with switch behaviour.

    Ugh, why do you use an artificial narrator? Computer generated speech does not yet contain the pauses, pitch changes, and other nuances of speech that make me want to keep listening. The entire video sounds like one big run-on sentence. Take a lesson from Branch Education; those are some of the best educational videos I've ever seen. And, no surprise, they are narrated by a human.

    Sorry, but to me this, overview, does nothing to really explain what is happening or how they are applied. The one and off part is clear but most transistors are used to amplify voltage or sound, or signal. Your illustration shows none of that. I had first learned how to read schematics back in the 1970's, and used what I learned from my dad on occasion, and read very helpful book on it that he had about transistors. Found out less here on this video...

    I really like the content and animations, but I CAN'T STAND the synthesized voiceover! So I will not subscribe. I really wish you would personally do the narration. I was finally able to get through this by turning on the closed captioning and muting the sound.

    The BJT is a bipolar *junction* transistor. There's not "joint" involved.
